The survey leak model isn’t that large. I suspect the Great Deku Tree’s interior / navel will also be included to some extent, you can see a cooking pot in the BotW version from the leak. I imagine a lot of the piece count is the alternate foliage (green leaves vs, pink blossoms) depending on which version you build. Quote
bRICK99 Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Since the set got a huge piece count upgrade, I hope we can get a skulltula in the set. Quote

The implication we seem to be taking from this is that we might get more minifigs. I’m curious if that was the intention or if it was meant to just be a reminder that all we have to go off is the original leak for minifigs, so don’t read too much into that info as “confirmed” or not yet? Given it’s a Deku Tree set from OoT and BotW, there really aren’t a lot of options for additional figures. Saria? Mido guards the path to the tree in OoT and he’d be easy to make from the winter elf pieces? In the leaked image there were clearly brick-built Koroks, Hestu, and Deku Babas. I’d guess more brickbuilt enemies, etc would be more likely. It would be fun to get a Deku Scrub that could pop up from the build’s base. Or a Skulltula. Quote

Oh absolutely, for most of us, I agree. I was meaning TandNbricks’ comment specifically. It seemed like they were in the know on more info for the set, so their comment on minifigures was being given more weight? But maybe I misunderstood the context around TandNbricks’ posts. Quote

Already having a good relationship with the company makes getting more IPs from that company more likely, but not cheaper. As an example, the star wars mechs are more expensive than the identical marvel mechs, despite being pretty much the exact same product. This implies disney is charging a greater licensing fee to lego for star wars than marvel (Though obviously we don't know that for sure, it's just an example. That said, a lot of data supports this- marvel is getting a set with 4 figs for $15 this year, whereas star wars moved up to $20 for the 4 fig battle packs a few years ago) Oh good point, I wasn't really thinking about that with Star Wars vs Marvel. I do wonder if it's the same here though, since of course Disney is a lot bigger and presumably has more negotiating power when they figure out how much money they and Lego are getting. I could definitely see that being the case though, especially cause there just aren't a ton of other obvious answers as to why it took so long for them to do anything based on Zelda. On the topic of Lego Nintendo, I have to wonder how likely it is that we might see other Nintendo series adapted into Lego. Animal Crossing and Zelda happening in 2024 kind of seems like it could be the opening of the floodgates on that, but I guess the biggest problem is that a lot of Nintendo franchises might just be too obscure to make Lego sets of? Like Splatoon seems possible, but when you get to more niche series like Pikmin, Fire Emblem, and Xenoblade (which only sell in the range of 1 to 5 million copies, as opposed to recent Mario, Zelda, and Animal Crossing games breaking 30 million copies), I'm not sure there's enough of a market. I guess the success of the upcoming sets will probably indicate to Lego if they want to branch out into other series though, and of course Nintendo might want to have Lego make sets of their more niche games as a kind of marketing/brand awareness thing. I hope the introduction of Nintendo minifigures this year means that we could eventually get a collectible minifigure series. That seems like the best way to get obscure characters that couldn’t justify the sales for a whole set. But I agree that Splatoon seems like the most likely candidate for LEGO to tackle next. Probably with some gimmick to replicate covering the set in ink. Quote

I feel like when it comes to Nintendo stuff, you kind of have to look past the sales figures in some cases. For example, Metroid has always been a fairly low selling franchise, but Samus and Riddley are super well know just because they've been around for so long and because of things like Smash. We're already kinda seeing Lego get this memo with Donkey Kong, whose last game still hasn't managed to crack 5 million in sales across 2 consoles and 10 years, but still got an entire wave of sets because he's a wildly popular character regardless. My hope is that this Deku Tree set is the gateway to getting annual one-off 18+ sets based of slightly smaller Nintendo IPs in the same way we get an annual Mario D2C now. Quote

Link and Zelda’s TotK outfits that they start the game with are miles better than the BotW ones in my opinion. Quote

BrickBob Studpants Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 Not surprised to hear this. They wouldn‘t create a codename just for a couple of Brickheadz, after all And them being s@h/LEGO store exclusives à la Monkie Kid explains why they weren‘t on Brickmerge‘s list before! Quote
doclord Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 Huge whiff on Lego's part if this is truly Lego Store exclusive. Of all the new themes that would do well at retail, this is it. Quote
Meaf Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 Really weird that the only two sets listed are probably both not regular system scale sets? The names at least make both just sound like they'd be buildable figures/statues which is pretty weird considering Fortnite has such a large amount of kids playing it, who I'd think would probably be more into regular sets. I'm pretty sure those sets are just TLG dipping their toes in the water to see if those sets will be successful. If they are, we are sure to get more regular ones Quote

I think LEGO is trying to avoid any minifigure references to Battle Royale, so I think they'll only do LEGO Fortnite sets if they bring minifigures. (as in the LEGO Fortnite game-mode , since they added that at the same time as the new Racing and Music modes at the end of 2023) But it's too early to see what the full list of sets end up being of course. Skipping minifigs entirely would be a bit strange, as they made so many in-game conversions of skins, but skipping guns or battle royale map locations is more likely, there are no LEGO mentions in other game modes at all either, not even something small and simple as a Profile icon or Emote. Just for the LEGO Fortnite mode, they could still do a lot in terms of sets. 4 Biomes (Grass, Coast, Desert, Ice) Caves (Rocks , Logs, Roots, Crystals , altho those are not "brick built" in game ) Buildable monsters (Wolf / Brute) Brick built Farm animals seen in game (Chicken , Sheep , Cow) Farm plants seen in game (they turn into LEGO brick form if you manually plant them) Town stuff with NPCs , Crafting stations Bandits / Skeletons in various outfits , perhaps around a treasure chest, or camp ruins. Game is a bit of a mix of game graphics and LEGO graphics, so I don't think they'll go like all the way with biomes in terms of trees , rocks, or cave rocks as those are not in LEGO brick form until harvested, but perhaps a scaled down version of the buildable house styles could work (Shack / Log Cabin / Yellow Houses / Castle walls) Edited February 16, 2024 by TeriXeri Quote
