Though I'm not sure either existing style of head would be quite right proportionately, which might necessitate something more theme-specific. And of course the drawback to that is that while you could ideally have compatibility within the theme, compatibility with classic minifigures would be diminished (even if the torsos/legs could stay the same). Using the Thanos head would allow for more bigfig customisation options, so IMO that would be the better choice. Perhaps the Minifigs could use mid-legs as well, in order to represent their odd proportions? Another idea would be to use Minidolls, since they are already skinny with large heads. A new (reusable!) shorter leg piece and Elves-style hair with moulded ears could actually look pretty accurate! Quote

I've had little success with my attempts at MOCs relating to the franchise but that might be as much due to my ongoing "builder's block" as anything else. But I'd definitely be interested in a theme like that if Lego could pull it off! I don’t wanna get your hopes up, but Splatoon, Zelda, and Animal Crossing were all blocked from Lego Ideas last summer while other Nintendo properties like Metroid and Pikmin are still available today. We know they’ve for sure got plans for Animal Crossing and Zelda, so I don’t think it’s too far fetched to guess they’re at least interested in doing something with Splatoon. Just speculation though, of course. Quote
JohnTPT17 Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 I think that Splatoon would work best as a stand-alone set as opposed to an entire theme. Granted, I don't know a ton about Splatoon, but I feel like a $80-$100 set of some kind of an arena, with 4-6 Inklings/Octolings and maybe a handful of the lead NPC characters would be pretty successful, especially in Japan (if Lego wanted to make a more "targeted" set like they have with the Chinese New Year's sets). In preparation for Animal Crossing, I want to try to find a few old Dimensions tags and some blank NFC chips to make my own knockoff Dimensions Animal Crossing Amiibo. From what I've read, the regular Toy Tag bases use NTAG 213 tags, while an Amiibo would need NTAG 215s that I would need to switch in... Does anyone have any experience opening up Dimensions bases? At absolute worst, the bases seems to be pretty cheap on Bricklink, so even if I break one it shouldn't be too big of a deal. As far as other Nintendo themes go... I wonder if you could make a believable Pikmin from the Dreamlings Dreamzzz bodies and the Pinoccio head? A stand-alone set with several Pikmin, Oatchi, and an enemy or two could be another popular one. Quote

A stand-alone set with several Pikmin, Oatchi, and an enemy or two could be another popular one. I dunno, I feel like there'd be potential for several types of Splatoon sets. You've got your basic multiplayer stages (for which I think taking small portions and making multiple 1v1 sets might be the best option for the sake of variety), a "hub" set with shops, Splatfest concert stage (for which there's been multiple varied ones throughout the series), a Salmon Run set, maybe even a set or two based on parts of the single-player campaign (like a boss battle with DJ Octavio). One of the things I've been trying to MOC lately is the Splatsville concert stage from the newest game, since that has some built-in "playability". The stage is split into three independent hovering "floats" that combine into a boat-shaped performance stage—very toyetic even if that were the only function, and I could imagine adding even more playability with rotating platforms built into the stage so the characters could "dance". Making custom Lego amiibo is a fun idea, and one that I've considered (though never acted on) with the Lego Mario characters. When I was considering it I was thinking using brick-built bases using the square Mario base pieces, which I figured would be simple and compact (with the "gap" in the bottom where plates can be used to connect the bases seeming like a perfect spot to attach an NFC tag). Using Dimensions bases seems like it'd be slightly more complex... I thought about the potential for tiny Pikmin using those Dreamzzz bodies just the other day! It'd definitely look great, though perhaps you'd want to have Pikmin figs have a little more articulation since one of the main gameplay interactions is having them grab objects and carry them, something that the Dreamzzz Dreamling torsos wouldn't be the best at. I hadn't even considered the Pinocchio head, which'd be great for red Pikmin—though you'd need some sort of ear piece for the yellow ones. Quote
strangely Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Lego just put out a teaser for Animal Crossing showcasing the minifigures. The designs really transfer well to minifigures. Can't wait to see the sets. Quote
Surge Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 wow these looks great! hope theres a few more figure, holding out hope for one of the monkeys or gorillas are we sure these sets are still a march release? feels really early to even tease something 5 months out Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 These look flippin fantastic!! Time for an AC thread then! Quote
JohnTPT17 Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Oh, wow, I wasn't expecting to see anything about the Animal Crossing sets until at least January! I'm glad to see that Lego/Nintendo went all-in with the molds, and gave each character their own molded head. The heads also seems to have a hole for pin-in accessories, which is another nice touch. It also looks like the tree roots are another new mold, and at least some of the critters (Nook and possibly Marshall) have tails. I wonder if anyone else (including the player-villager) will be able to sneak into this first wave? Based on the characters shown, it looks like we'll be getting Kapp'n's boat and Resident Services - the lack of Blathers makes me think the museum might wait until a Wave 2. Then again, I wouldn't be shocked if there were at least a few other characters that will be coming along with these teased eight. I'm also very glad that the reception for the tease (from some of the other websites I've looked through) has all been very positive. A lot of people are even tossing around the idea of a blind bag series, which, I'll say again, is one series that I think will actually sell well as a blind box experience. Super excited for these to release! Quote
Surge Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 not sure if its been discussed before, but do you guys think the villager will have a molded head? I think it would be better to fit in with the other ones (something like the powerpuff girls) but I could also see them going with a minifigure head for customization, including different hairpieces and possibly heads Quote

On the one hand, if they use a regular minifigure head, then that's less molds they have to make (not only the head, but potentially different hair as well), and they can pull from a variety of other parts to have lots of customization options for the player-villagers. On the other hand, a regular minifigure head could look really small next to these custom-molded heads. So, it's a toss-up, though I'm leaning towards them using regular minifigure heads for simplicity's sake, even if it does look a little off. Quote

That is roughly the same size as the animals' heads seem to be, and it would allow for customisable hair/headgear. Quote
Agent Kallus Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 2 more of the survey leak sets 'confirmed' by the reliable leakers. Zelda feels inevitable now, I can only hope that there's a line of TotK sets to Accompany the Deku Tree (assumed) D2C Quote
AstroFalcon Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 Along with the Fortnite llama polybag leak, next year is looking really great for vg Lego. Quote

I haven't had a chance to watch his video yet, and the title does specify playsets, which could mean a line of display models is on the way. He seems pretty cut up about a lack of playsets, but I suspect most of the demand for Zelda is coming from the AFOL side, which favors display models with character minifigs. Quote

Portal Out Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 Rumor has it the Batman TAS set from the survey leak is going to be a bit different from the image we saw leak out back in February. I can’t help but wonder if the Deku Tree might’ve also gotten a facelift during that time too. This was a pretty rare situation where the designers were able to hear fan feedback over a year before the set is supposed to hit shelves, so maybe they even took some of our ramblings from over the past few months into account! I don’t remember any specific suggestions to improve it, I think most people liked it as it was? Quote
