I always felt the digi-figures were pretty gimmicky but they did kind of give the crossover a reason to exist--they made the theme LEGO Mario and not just LEGO that looks like Mario. Not that "LEGO that looks like <choice of IP>" is a bad thing in itself...but LEGO has its strengths and I think licensed themes work better when they manage to play to those strengths along with the strengths of the licensed IP. That's why I'm really hoping we get more Zelda...dungeon sets with Technic functions to create puzzles, etc. To be fair, Nintendo is way more protective of their plumber poster boy compared to most of their other characters, so the lack of Mario minifigures could stem from that. I mean, look at all the fangames they take down on a regular basis Quote
Karalora Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 It's understandable, really...it's the flagship franchise for the company and he's the mascot character. Mario is basically synonymous with Nintendo in a way that I don't think any other character is--not Link, not Kirby, not Donkey Kong, not even Pikachu. That merits a level of trademark guarding above and beyond the norm. Of course, this doesn't answer my actual question...are there a lot of Nintendo/LEGO crossover fans who really want minifigure!Mario? I'm certain there are some...for any nerd franchise and character you can think of, there's probably someone who wants a minifigure. But I'm not really in that corner of gaming and I'm wondering whether there's anywhere near the demand that clearly exists for Link. Quote
FinlayTheFaithful Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 To answer that, yes. Practically every Lego fan and their mother would buy a Mario minifigure for their collection Quote

Lion King Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 Really, it’s best to merge Zelda discussion with the existing Super Mario thread as Nintendo thread…. and I do WANT Super Mario minifigures. Quote

THELEGOBATMAN Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 LEGO Horizon Adventures has been officially announced, launching later this year. https://blog.playstation.com/2024/06/07/lego-horizon-adventures-launches-holiday-2024/ Seeing all those brickbuilt machines makes me hopeful we'll be getting more sets. Thunderjaw was really prominent here, so if we're getting at least a single set, that one is almost guaranteed. Quote

I don’t have the link on hand but there was a BrickFanatics interview with one of the leading designers for the theme back in 2020 and they confirmed it was solely Lego’s idea to go the digi-fig route. It's also coming to PC (not a huge surprise) and to Nintendo Switch (which does surprise me quite a bit). Also, like Lego Fortnite, it looks like there are several "Legacy" Lego characters, including the Hot Dog Vender from CMF Series 17, Popcorn Costume from CMF Series 23, Wildlife Photographer from CMF Series 16, Jungle Explorer from CMF Series 19, Sora from Ninjago, and a generic construction worker. Also, Aloy looks pretty much identical to her official minifigure - or, at least I don't see any differences. 18 minutes ago, THELEGOBATMAN said: Thunderjaw was really prominent here, so if we're getting at least a single set, that one is almost guaranteed. It could just be coincidence, but the designer interview for Ominous Isle for the Bricklink Designer Program mentions wanting a Thunderjaw. One of the other designers mentioned wanting a Zelda theme, and that was announced shortly afterwards... It could just be coincidence, though. If you really want to be conspiratorial, another designer also mentioned Hobbiton... Also, I think that the new bow piece, with pin holes for feathers, looks really cool - and it might be another good hint towards getting real sets (though I also thought that about Fortnite, and there's still nothign confirmed about that... Nearlyheadlessbrick Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 The game looks pretty cool. Comparing to the set, the Tallneck and Watcher are a lot more intricate (and larger, in the tallneck's case) than their set counterparts, so I'd assume that any set of them would be somewhat simplified, although it'd still likely look great. Might pick the game up, and hope it heralds new sets. Quote

No? We got set numbers (and a couple of names) for a line of five Fortnite sets coming towards the end of this year, in October-ish IIRC? I gotta say I really didn’t expect a game like this, but it looks fun so I’m hardly opposed. And if it means we get more giant Kaiju machine sets, I’m 100% up for it. The Tallneck was amazing and I need a Thunderjaw or Tremortusk or something along those lines. Quote

Though I also think the information was pretty hazy, and it's definitely not anything that will be completely representative of everything in Lego Fortnite. I imagine we'll get more details about them soon, though. Quote

Thet could've made a 300€ Tallneck, which would look just as amazing, but I love that they contained it to an 80€ display set. I'm not opposed to a huge D2C set, but only if they also make more affordable 20–100€ machine sets. Quote

You could easily have a couple of smaller sets which are just Aloy (+ rotating other character) fighting various machines, none of which should be bigger than the Tallneck to keep it in scale, maybe throw in a Regalla's Rebels or something Sylens set, and then use the larger price-points for more elaborate set-pieces such as Cauldrons. Lego Nostalgia Posted June 9, 2024 Posted June 9, 2024 They really need to add more Video Game franchises to the theme, all we're getting are mostly kid games and sci-fi stuff, I want more mature games like Left 4 Dead,Last Of Us,DOOM and more, some dioramas would be cool, it's a shame Lego isn't willing to tap into the adult market more. Karalora Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 I confess to being a bit puzzled as to why some people are so keen to have LEGO versions of R-rated franchises, especially as minifig themes. I try to picture the little plastic trapezoid people in conjunction with realistic violence or sexuality or horror and the absurdity just makes me giggle and I can't take it seriously. Quote

R-rated games is a good way to get more zombie minifigures from such franchises as Resident Evil. The thought of a tyrant minifigure the same size Hagrid minifigure would be awesome. Quote

I can sort of see both sides. On the one hand I wouldn't really want Lego to do anything too 'Adult' but on the other it'd be cool to see things I like in Lego which does include some higher rated things. I mean just this week I bought some custom Baldur's gate 3 minifigs from minifigs.me because I knew Lego would never touch BG3, but it's still cool to have those characters as minifigs, I plan to hide them in my medieval display as a party of adventurers ( alongside a purist version of my player character from the game).
