They really need to add more Video Game franchises to the theme, all we're getting are mostly kid games and sci-fi stuff, I want more mature games like Left 4 Dead,Last Of Us,DOOM and more, some dioramas would be cool, it's a shame Lego isn't willing to tap into the adult market more.

Never gonna happen.

I confess to being a bit puzzled as to why some people are so keen to have LEGO versions of R-rated franchises, especially as minifig themes. I try to picture the little plastic trapezoid people in conjunction with realistic violence or sexuality or horror and the absurdity just makes me giggle and I can't take it seriously.

I mean, on one hand The Witcher is bloody, has sex and violence, and definitely has a lot of mature themes... but on the other hand, wouldn't it be cool to get a Geralt minifigure with a buildable Leshy?

I feel like some franchises can be too dark for LEGO, but a lot of them have potential for some really cool sets — The Witcher, God of War, Baldur's Gate. It's not like the LEGO sets would include blood and naked minifigures.

Then again, LEGO will never touch anything an R, TV-MA or PEGI 18 rating — and I respect that.

I don't know, would it? I don't follow The Witcher, but if the "Leshy" from there is anything like the one from Eastern European folklore...yeah, that would be cool. But by that token, if it's from existing folklore then we don't need the specific IP, do we? We'd just need a fantasy theme that could potentially cover that base. Heck, they could probably fit a Leshy or similar type of creature in DREAMZzz.

What about Rated T for Teen stuff?

They're fine with that- we got Overwatch sets, after all, and I always considered T-rated games to be akin to PG-13 movies.

Hi,

One thing I could point 👉 out, is that Batman Arkham Knight is an 18 ( in the UK at least) and it got a set in the RC batmobile!

To my knowledge they've never actually officially stated it's arkham based and were able to just pass it off as a batman set (plus, that's really not an arkham knight set, it just came with an arkham knight suit)

Same here- I really respect them for sticking to their guns on this one.

Not an Arkham Knight set. A single minifigure in it is vaguely inspired by the suit from that game.

They've never marketed it as such, nor should they have.

Exactly, so lego should try dipping their toes in the water again with more teen focused games

Uncharted is the one obvious contender here. Saying that, I don't think LEGO would suddenly make sets for a franchise that has ended, with no future in sight, over a decade ago tho.

I can't really think of many other video games or franchises that would be beneficial to make sets from LEGO's PoV tho. Horizon and Legend of Zelda have a single set. Fortnite might have some sets coming iirc? Star Wars: Jedi has a BD-1 set and Cal as a minifigure (but that falls more under Star Wars than video games).

What else really is there tho? Hogwarts Legacy is a recent T-rated game that LEGO could make sets based on, but it has a custom character which makes it much harder (not to mention that it would fall under the Harry Potter theme, in which case LEGO would just prefer to make a regular Hogwarts expansion with Harry, Hermione etc.). Same thing goes for Marvel's Spider-Man.

Shantae is the only other example I can think of since that IP has made quite the name for itself for an indie title

Well, the chances of LEGO making an original theme based on Eastern European folklore with creatures vaguely similar to the ones from The Witcher are... well, not too great.

But still, people don't want just any creature that looks like Leshy — they want the Leshy. Otherwise, it won't be different from any other non-licensed LEGO set.

A lot of sets based on mature video games have potential to be fantastic, and it's sad we'll never get them, because most video games have M / 18 ratings. But still, gotta respect LEGO for sticking to their values.

Never heard of it, but it does look like something LEGO could make a set based on tbh.

Not sure how many people would be interested in it tho.

I guess I'm having trouble wrapping my head around this wish some people have to see LEGO juxtaposed--on an official basis--with "dark" or "mature" media. Obviously I understand very well the wish to have LEGO versions of things one loves on a more general basis (or I wouldn't be in this thread), but specifically applying that to the 18+ stuff is just weird to me. LEGO has a vibe that I feel is inherently incompatible with genuinely dark, gritty material.

I can see it to an extent just from that "lego versions of things one loves". The way I'll put it is that I love the show invincible. Probably my favorite animated show, and this is coming from a guy who loves star wars and transformers. I like the show so much I spent more money than I should have to import a firestar toys Invincible custom-printed lego minifigure from germany. I've got him flying around the bugle next to my spider-man. But I wouldn't want a diorama of him in a bloody pile with omni-man looming over him. I wouldn't want lego to make ANY invincible sets, for that matter. I like lego, I like some things that have R/MA/M ratings. And occasionally I like them enough to buy a custom invincible, or make a purist Harvey Spector fig. But I think people just get caught up more in "I like thing. I like lego. Where lego thing?" and don't think about what's best for the children's toy brand.

This is pretty much the best way to describe it. I mean, I love Lego as much as the next guy but if they make a set based off of the Evil Dead movies, I'd probably join in on giving them an earful for it too

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I would love to get the Gerudo as mini dolls. Unlike most people I actually love the mini dolls, and feel they would accurately represent the silhouette of the Gerudo in Ocarina of Time, and to a lesser extent, Breath of the Wild. The Friends line has recently introduced a pant piece, the bell bottoms piece Paisley wears, which I feel would be perfect for Gerudo clothing. The use of mini dolls I feel, could really extenuate the stylistic differences between the Hylian races. Big figs for the Gorons, mini dolls for the Gerudo, and mini figures for the Hylians and Rito. Maybe its just me but I would love that.

I’m also glad TLG don’t forsake their brand values in favour of making a quick buck with sets based on M-rated games, unlike their competitors

What I personally want to see the most (apart from more AC and Zelda sets) is a Kirby theme. It’s my favourite video game franchise to this day and having sets based on it would be a dream come true :sweet:

Kingdom Hearts? Final Fantasy?

Persona?

Actually I take back what I just said about Final Fantasy and Persona.  I checked double and they are r-rated.

I'm not even talking about damaging the brand when it comes to "mature" or R-rated themes. I'm just mind-boggled by people who can look at the extreme cartoony stylization of a minifigure and think "I need a hardcore realistic serious IP translated into THIS!" But then I'm similarly boggled by people who use them as wargaming miniatures to recreate actual historical wars. I just don't live in the same world as them, I guess.

This is an interesting idea! I don't know if I'm entirely on board for two reasons. First, the lower posability of minidolls doesn't quite gel with the Gerudo as extremely active warrior women. Second, even with the best of intentions, I can guarantee it would read as a statement to the effect that the Gerudo are all women, so they need to be represented with figures from the Girl!LEGO theme.

I'm also not certain we need to go all the way to big figs for Gorons. They're hefty fellas, but they're not that much taller than the more humanlike races. Maybe a unique body mold, a la Hagrid? With articulation points allowing them to curl up and roll around? The Gorons are going to be an engineering challenge for sure if this theme keeps going!

Which is funny because Kirby is probably on the same field as Kratos in terms of video game characters who have killed the most gods. (I would also like to see this. It'd be a commitment as they'd need a good number of new molds, but I'd say Kirby's roughly on the level of animal crossing, even if that's more from Smash than his own games)

Indeed :laugh_hard: It's hilarious how OP Kirby is, literally eating gods for breakfast while technically still being a BABY. Kirby lore is something else, I tell ya.

If they did Kirby playsets, the figures would have to be more akin to the Angry Birds ones since most Kirby characters are far from humanoid. I'd also be happy with a giant brick-built figure

I think if there was a moment for Uncharted sets to become a thing, it would have been tied into the film the other year.

I've got to be honest, I don't think that's even near to being big enough for Lego. I'd never heard of it, but looking it up, Wiki says the series as a whole has sold three million units (for comparison, Horizon has sold over thirty million units and there's still a general mood of "I can't believe they've turned this into Lego" with every announcement of Horizon stuff). That's tiny, especially when you factor in that there have been multiple games so presumably a healthy chunk of those sales will be people who liked one game buying others in the same series. Factor in as well that there's always going to be a huge chunk of any fanbase that straight up doesn't like Lego, and you have a very small target audience. And honestly, there are so many much more popular franchises (both within and without video-games) that Lego would be better advised to target one of them if they need a new licence.

I agree on the pose-ability of the Gerudo being an issue with the mini dolls, I just felt the silhouette of the Gerudo were very reminiscent of the mini dolls, but even as figures I would be quick to grab a Gerudo Fortress set lol. As for the Goron, I still think the big figs would be a solid way to display how bulky they are. They may not be too much taller, but they are very bulky. So long as they're not regular mini figures, we should be good. I'm just so excited to see where this theme goes in general.

Yeah, I think that ship has already sailed unfortunately.

I think I've mentioned it here before but I think the Splatoon series would make a good Lego theme—a colorful, cartoony shooter with no blood or gore or realistic weapons, as well as strong, distinctive world design based around sea creatures like squids and octopi that could make for unique and interesting Lego sets. It's popular too (though maybe not on the same level as Minecraft and Fortnite)—IIRC it's in the top 5 Nintendo franchises in Japan and at least in the top 10 worldwide. If Animal Crossing can succeed as a Lego theme, I see no reason why Splatoon couldn't.

That said, it's possible something related to that might already be in the works, since I believe I'd seen it mentioned that when Mario, Zelda, and Animal Crossing were barred from Ideas (hinting at future sets based on those franchises), Splatoon was the other major Nintendo IP on that list.

In regard to the Mario minifigure question, I've long been firmly in the camp that the digi-fig experience is a better adaptation of the franchise than minifigure-based playsets would be. Minifigures could be kinda cool to have, especially now that Zelda and Animal Crossing have them (creating crossover potential), but I doubt they'd ever have as much set potential as the digi-figs and brick-built enemies have.

Posted

If I  put Mario digi-figure next to other minifigures from animal Corsisng, Zelda, Marvel, DreamZzz, Ninjago, et. I think digit-figure would look out of place.
