I highly doubt this set will sell well if they leave Gringotts and WWW out As a collector, I also hope that Gringott’s and WWW are included in the D2C set. As a businessman, I disagree with you completely. A D2C Diagaon Alley featuring Ollivander’s, Flourish & Blotts, Eylop’s Owl Emporium, Quality Quidditch Supplies, the Apothecary, etc. will sell like hot cakes whether it includes Gringott’s and WWW or not. TLG stands to make much more money by selling Gringott’s and WWW as separate sets (each with a much wider distribution, significantly lower price points than $400, and with much more playable, kid-friendly features than a D2C set typically offers) than it would by including them in this limited release. Anyone who can afford the D2C set will happily shill out the extra cash to by these key structures to enhance their Diagaon Alley display next year. Better start saving those coins up now, brother.

I can only speak for myself but I would never buy a DA D2C that didn't even include Gringott's. It's surely the most instantly recognisable building in the alley and is there from the very start. It would be like making a London Architecture set and leaving out Big Ben. WWW could maybe be ommited on the justification of it not being there for the first four years but I still wouldn't be happy to buy it seperately. A £350 set should be sold complete. Brickity Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 The 2 sets I still don’t have are the express and the knight bus, and I was about to buy the former which is on sale on a website, but then I estimated how much I would spend on these 2 upcoming waves and chose not to get it (On top of these being uncertain times ha) Did anyone skip any set? If so, which one?

If so, which one? Personally, I wouldn’t skip it especially if it’s on sale. It’s a great set with an equally great selection of minifigs. And the section of King’s Cross isn’t so bad either. But I understand the dilemma. You’ll still have a longer time to get this next wave than you will the Express.
Balrogofmorgoth Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 (edited) Honestly I’ll probably buy everything they put out for this theme no matter what is or isn’t included. Same if they ever reboot LOTR. In fact I would sacrifice this theme in a heartbeat for LOTR, but that’s neither here nor there at this point. The point is I’ll buy whatever this theme has to offer even if it’s not exactly what I wanted Edited April 14, 2020 by Balrogofmorgoth

For me it will be a “pass” until I have nothing left to buy. I like it, but I’m not crazy about it. It would be just for the sake of collecting, so when the theme ends I don’t feel like I missed out on anything. 18 minutes ago, Vindicare said: Personally, I wouldn’t skip it especially if it’s on sale. I’ve never owned a Hogwarts Express before, but as I stated above, it would be just for the sake of collection. Plus, I was mostly interested in Lupin, but he’s coming in the summer sets (Also, Hermione wears a very similar striped top in the Grawp scene)
spiderfan2000 Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 (edited) Currently, the only things I don't own since the reboot are the D2C Castle, microscale Diagon Alley (not really interested in microscale, so I ended up buying the Hogwarts founders and Ollivander separately for a good price) and the Brickheadz (they don't really appeal to me) I own all the other sets, including the advent calendar, the full CMF, the polybag and the Bricktober pack. I can already tell that this year is going to be an expensive one, and that's without seeing any set pictures. Assuming that the D2C is in fact a minifigure scale Diagon Alley, it will almost certainly become my second D2C set purchase (The first being the Stranger Things set). The only set this year that I probably won't be immediately interested in picking up is the Hedwig model, though I might change my mind if the pictures impress me enough. I think it was about $5 all up - felt like a good savings! Personally I have a pretty limited budget and limited displaying space, so I skip a lot. From the first wave I skipped Aragog, the Whomping Willow, and the Hogwarts Express (and the Fantastic Beasts sets). From the second wave I skipped the Knight Bus, Hagrid's Hut, and Hungarian Horntail. If I had broader funds and space I probably would have gotten the Whomping Willow and Hagrid's Hut, and I definitely thought about Hagrid's Hut, but it's dang expensive in Australia and I can only spend so much. The only thing I truly wanted from it was Buckbeak anyway. Also besides the Great Hall and CMF, I waited for a sale on everything (though 20-25% off sales are very common here).
Seaber Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 So far I have one of everything except the Quidditch Match set which I have two of, and I have multiple Harry, Ron, Hermione, Dean, Neville and Cho CMFs to get more students. I also bought an extra Moody for a permanent Barty Crouch Jnr. I skipped the polybag as I didn't need any of the parts, and the Hogwarts Express. I'm still on the fence about getting it, or just to buy Lupin, Trolley Witch and Hermione's Torso Separately.
sammy_zammy Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 (edited) I can’t believe you guys are even contemplating skipping Hogwarts Express over the others, it’s like one of the most iconic things in Harry Potter! I understand if you can’t afford all of them (like I can’t but then I buy them anyway oops), but skip one of the others instead nah of course I’m kidding, it’s your choice. But it’s worth bearing in mind that the 2018 sets will likely retire soon, whereas you’ll probably have 2 years to collect the 2020 sets. It’s not like you have to buy all this stuff simultaneously! Personnaly => 1) HP-Goyle , 2) Ron-Crabbe, 3) Hermione-cat, 4) Rita skeeter, 5) Sirius B in ootp suit, 6) Kreacher, and 7) pomfrey or xenophilus 'cause I think that Lupin, tonks and Ginny will in the burrow with Bellatrix and Greyback, Lucius, Draco and Lockhart in the DA...

That‘s just the box distribution 3 of the minifigs are each 5 times in a box, 6 are in there 4 times each and the remaining 7 are included 3 times each. It‘s the same distribution as in the previous two series (which is why _kingnono_ said „again“). “No special figure“ means there‘s no chase figure that‘s only included once per box

If so, which one? I'm still lucky enough to own a lot of the 2010 wave so I've skipped out on all the Hogwarts builds so far (I was interested in the Clocktower but wasn't very impressed by the final build). The largest set I've got from this theme so far is the Hagrid's Hut as I've mostly picked up the smaller sets which complement my collection: the Aragog set, Expecto Patronum, the Knight Bus, Hungarian Horntail and Graveyard duel sets. The 2019 sets had a lot more that interested me and I think this year will have even more!

It also depends on what someone likes and the amount of room he/she has ofc. Besides Harry Potter I'm a big fan of Jurassic Park/World, Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean and a few non-LEGO things so my budget and space is limited. When it comes to Harry Potter I've chosen to stick mainly to Hogwarts and the surrounding area with the sets I'm buying (only exception so far being the graveyard) because I don't have space or money for a dozen seperate displays (similarly I've chosen not to buy any of the non-MCU Marvel stuff). Though I'm very interested in the Diagon Alley D2C and I might still get the Knight Bus if it includes the Leaky Cauldron. A set like the Hogwarts Express was really easy to skip for me because 1) I don't have room for it and 2) the only figure I wanted was Lupin which was pretty cheap to buy on Bricklink.

Yeah that definitely makes sense, I was only joking and completely understand it just surprised me. I’ve only got a tiny shelf for my Lego so there’s not enough space even just the Lego Harry Potter I’ve got lol. I’m gonna have to do some serious rearranging of other shelves. I’m also gonna set up a Lego Indiana Jones Display from when I was a kid so I’m probably gonna have to swap stuff out from time to time. I guess when you come out of your dark ages I forget how much space Lego takes up! At least I’ve never gotten into Star Wars collecting lol, that’d be a nightmare for me! tafkatb Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 I've skipped quite a few so far, actually - some I'm still considering, like the Hungarian Horntail and Beauxbatons Carriage, and I'm on the fence about Expecto Patronum, but The Rise of Voldemort, Quidditch Match, Grindelwald's Escape, and Aragog's Lair have all been fairly easy passes for me. Up to now my main priority has been the Hogwarts sections, but Diagon Alley is my favorite setting in the Wizarding World, so that's top of my list for this year.

I'm not a super big fan of LEGO Star Wars either as those sets are really declining in quality and are overall just overpriced every single time. Considering it's cheap, has great figures, an awesome patronus and well-designed trees I highly recommend picking up Expecto Patronum, you're really missing out on something amazing! As for the Horntail and Carriage I'd recommend buying them if you like the figures, if you don't they aren't worth it because they aren't essential imo (I do have them both).
BrickBob Studpants Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 To me, skipping sets is unfathomable, but then again, I‘m a completionist ...well, almost. I buy every set and polybag from the themes I‘m interested in, but I draw the line at magazine extras and non-exclusive book accessories since those are hard to keep track of. And I also skip the crazy expensive stuff like SDCC exclusives or Mr Gold

I've considered getting the Raptor Escape set but then don't know if it's worth it as the scenes really are very small. I'd love to get the T-Rex Rampage set but I've already got lots of big brick-built Creator dinosaurs from when they used to do that, and one of my favourite parts of setting up Lego is setting up all what the minifigs are doing, and that's not exactly easy with that (especially as the scenes are behind the gate) - I feel I'd rather have a more minifig-orientated and slightly cheaper set like the Ideas Treehouse/Pirates of Barracuda Bay. I'm a massive Mario fan too, so I'm actually glad the direction they're going doesn't interest me, as I'm already spending enough on Harry Potter! Harry Potter-wise (back on topic lol), I considered skipping the Hungarian Horntail (I really don't like the dragon build, especially the legs) and the Beauxbaton's Carriage. But the minifigs in both are awesome and I think ultimately I'd regret it one day, so I'll probably get them when they're at least 30% off. I probably won't bother with the polybag or the Build your Own Adventure, or Newt's Case (as cool as it is I don't feel it'd fit). Oh and the microscale Hogwarts has the same thought process as the T-Rex Rampage. I wasn't gonna get the advent calendar but have been convinced otherwise by this thread lol. I've still got to get the Whomping Willow, Knight Bus, Hagrid's Hut and the Clock Tower - but I've got 4 unbuilt HP sets sitting at home so I'm gonna build those first, unless those sets go for >30% off! This wave's going to be expensive... But at least it won't be like it is now, where I am trying to collect both the 2018 and 2019 waves at once. In fact I just checked Brickset - the most expensive sets I have are RRP £90 (Winter Village Cottage (which is also the largest in pieces) and Hogwarts Great Hall), so Diagon Alley's gonna be a shock to the system... but it will also be absolutely awesome. I totally cannot wait - if there's a GWP I may consider getting it day 1, as it'll be a long while before it's sold by other retailers and then even longer before they have a discount. So excited for this year - like you I hope they release pictures soon! Edited April 14, 2020 by sammy_zammy
