Retro Brick Reviews Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 According to Kingnono, the calendar will be OotP-themed.

You mean after you get him in the cmf with the dog. :P (guess) Christmas Sirius is a bit specific but a better calendar fig than no jacket Flitwick.

That’s just how his info comes across to me. I would say we’ll find out soon enough but we probably won’t see pics of Diagon Alley for a while I can't even remember what the last D2C was for which we got leaked pictures days or weeks before its official reveal. Was it the Fiat? I know that one's box leaked about a month before its reveal. Hoping for leaked pictures is a gamble. Sometimes there isn't anything until the official reveal (Pirate Bay, UCS A-wing), while other times the box has leaked a month in advance (Fiat and Treehouse). DA is rumored to be a September release, right?

Maybe having both Dumbledore's Army (+patronuses) and the Order of the Phoenix? And a few mirrors/mannequins? About Diagon Alley: I feel like they could actually have that Nocturn Alley bit in some kind of interesting way: considering this will probably look like a modular complex we could have something like two buildings together, the nocturn alley entrance+shop behind the second shop, another block of 2/3 buildings and then the last block with Gringott?
Thieda Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 I think it will be different mini builds that make up the interior of Grimmauld place like last years calendar being the great hall. It probably won’t be the room of requirement / Dumbledore’s army as we are getting a set of that in June.

MaxHeadroom Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 I checked in after a few hours, saw a large number of new posts and assumed we must've gotten some new leaks or even set pictures. I got really excited only to discover it's more hints about Diagon alley. I was originally against the idea of it being an upscaled GWP until realizing that the buildings could share walls so LEGO could give us more building than we would get otherwise. It's nice that they're separate though since that lets us move them around to our liking. I don't care that B&B is included as long as it doesn't take up too much of the budget and has a small alleyway build with a sign leading to it so it's a bit less random. Honestly I think the hint about the advent calendar is far more interesting than the Diagon alley stuff. It doesn't make up for OOTP having only having 2 small sets in the wave that is supposed to be our main representation for years 5/6 but it's better than nothing. I skipped reading the fifth book when I went to reread the series a few weeks ago (I'm just not a fan of the book, love the movie though) and I kind of regret that now that we can speculate about the contents of the advent calendar. I understand the idea of it being the ROR as it would give us some nice figures and patronuses but there really wouldn't be much to include for builds past the fireplace, the notice board, some pillows, and a training dummy. Plus we're already getting a ROR set. It's almost certainly going to be grimmauld place as it would give LEGO a good excuse to avoid making a proper set of it for the foreseeable future and has many options for small builds, new minifigures (OOTP Sirius, OOTP Tonks, maybe casual OOTP Ron), and rereleases (Harry and Hermionie from GINFF, and probably some characters from the burrow).
deskp Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 Borgin and burkes in chamber of secrets exterior is super similar to the building that is "currently" directly to the right of Ollivanders. So just having it part of diagol alley street shouldn't look out of place. if that were the rout they took. half blood prince ollivanders exterior look too much like ollivanders in my opinion. but again as a building style fits in perfectly in diagon alley.
sammy_zammy Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 (edited) Just a thought - The only issue perhaps with this modular, connect-with pins, hopefully customisable DA design, is that the side walls aren't going to be able to have any sort of texture/decoration - they're just gonna be flat like the modulars... 1 hour ago, deskp said: I just hope all the individual things they make are incredibly accurate. Pardon? 51 minutes ago, Balrogofmorgoth said: Also according to kingnono, the advent calendar is based on OOTP. Probably Christmas at Grimmauld Place? Hopefully an exclusive Sirius Someone on the IG post suggested Christmas in the RoR too. That would work really well with the RoR set, since that's a small set and it would expand it. It's just nice to see it's probbaly going to be really distinct to 2019's calendar. 21 minutes ago, SupesBatsy said: About Diagon Alley: I feel like they could actually have that Nocturn Alley bit in some kind of interesting way: considering this will probably look like a modular complex we could have something like two buildings together, the nocturn alley entrance+shop behind the second shop, another block of 2/3 buildings and then the last block with Gringott? I think that this set is going to be fairly cutsomisable, meaning it's just some buildings and no set way to connect them. So while I don't think this will be the advertised layout, I think it will be easy to put it this way. If the technic bricks for the pins require the buildings to be all in a line, you could always just shift/rotate some of those technic bricks along, to place the next building (i.e. B&B) where you want it relative to the previous building. If that makes sense. I think you can do a similar thing with the Hogwarts sets. I'd really like to add the little bridge to Knockturn Alley too. Something I'd really like is a printed/stickered "Knockturn Alley" sign. That would be cool. 14 minutes ago, 8fifty said: I could really imagine that. As I said above, you could just shift/ the technic bricks to achieve this however you wanted it without it looking odd. Maybe to avoid covering the interior of one of the shops, you could add a little wall build to move B&B backwards a bit. 6 minutes ago, MaxHeadroom said: I checked in after a few hours, saw a large number of new posts and assumed we must've gotten some new leaks or even set pictures. I see your argument about sharing walls, but I expect the walls will all be different designs/colours anyway. This way it'll also be completely customisable. I don't see there being an alleyway build and if there isn't I'll just add one myself. I feel I can do that, but don't think I could design a building, so contrary to what I've said before would rather have them put as much budget into buildings than pathways! Hmm on second thoughts, the advent calendar would definitely work better as Grimmauld Place. They could even have non-Christmassy builds - like how Wizard's Chess wasn't Christmassy. Also, do we think the "smile and ;)" means anything or is just spreading positivity? I couldn't think of any reference to this. Edited April 19, 2020 by sammy_zammy
Huigberts Builds Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 I'm really happy B&B is included. Wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I see all the shopping streets as one and the same. And it would've been unlikely to get it in its own separate set. Plus it makes perfect sense with its connection to the Burrow and the room of requirements (or at least if that one comes with the cabinet, could come in AT as well or no where at all, but you get the point). I guess this is the first building that's now "confirmed". Can't wait to hear what the others are.
Crookshanks Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 I hope we getting Kreacher in the advent calender.

Darth Shadowthrone Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 If the Advent Calendar is based on OotP and only contains six figures it'll be interesting to see which are included. The trio are guaranteed and Sirius would have to be if its set in Grimmauld Place so that leaves only two minifigures. Looking at the scene from the film there's a choice between Mr and Mrs Weasley, the twins, or Ginny. I could easily see any exclusive Weasleys from the Burrow being included as a cheap alternative for getting them. In terms of builds I could see the long table in the kitchen, the Christmas tree, a pile of presents, another fireplace with a wreath and maybe an archway with mistletoe to stand-in for the Room of Requirement scene where Harry kisses Cho.
THELEGOBATMAN Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 That is some fantastic info! There are two options. First one is Christmas at Grimmauld Place, it could include exclusive Sirius plus some Weasleys and trio, or maybe even Kreacher. Second one is another Christmas at Hogwarts, with Room of Requirements being the main location. Throw in some Hogwarts students and teachers, maybe even exclusive Patronuses (maybe a reoculour of dog mould for Ron). Both sound pretty great, and honestly I'd prefer Grimmauld Place one, sounds more unique. I hope next year we get Advent Calendar based on HBP, the only sets we get are both $100, and I would love to get some small sets from that movie.
Balrogofmorgoth Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 I wouldn’t necessarily expect every minifig to be based around that scene. There will more than likely be some generic repeats like last time

Haven't we got some new mold in the last calender? Like the beard for the statue?
SupesBatsy Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 By the way I built a few days ago the 40305 set, the Lego shop, and IMO it shows that DA works way better having 3 stories rather than just 2. Hopefully the buildings are nearly as wide but way deeper.

Speaking of which: the architect's beard is a recolour of Vitruvius' beard from The LEGO Movie

I guess they've got the budget for that and new prints like the christmas jumpers for Harry and Ron but not for new moulds because the set is only out for a few months.
