A new theme called Night Mode has just leaked. They are boxes with LED-lights to light up sets, one of them is for the Hogwarts D2C. I personally don't own that version of the castle but if the price for these light-sets aren't too high I'll definetely pick up 1 or 2 to light up my minifigurescale Hogwarts.

If Lego did want to put the COS under the Great Hall set, they could have the Chamber itself be under the hall, while the entrance with the snake door could be under the tower portion.

This has been brought up a few times before and a lot of people (including me) don't really see this work. Ofcourse it would be great for lego to put the CoS under the current sets so they can elevate them but that idea clashes with the current connectivity of sets. The CoS in this concept would cause a major height difference resulting in the connection system either not working or lego needing to release a rock-section for every single Hogwarts set they release, which is kinda unrealistic. I think a set with the CoS on the inside and just a random piece of castle on the outside is far more likely to happen.

I don't post much here but enjoy reading the discussion in the thread and seeing the excitement build since the leaks for this year releases. However, I have noticed a lot of gatekeeping from certain members that seems to think their opinion of what LEGO will or won't release overrides anyone else's. Honestly anyone can make up rules based on assumptions and guess work, but unless LEGO themselves come out and state that they will never release a set for whatever reason then really anything goes. It's much more fun to explore and discuss any possibilities with an open mind rather than shutting down every avenue bought forward, just because is doesn't ring true with your own particular likelihoods and rule sets.

These ''rules'' aren't really rules as they've never really been put on paper. Obviously a lot of sets can be made. Even the boathouse could happen, but judging from the past it's unlikely if we look at the scenes it's featured in. But they could still make it but not based on such a scene as previously mentioned.

As for "it's much more fun to explore and discuss any possibilities with an open mind rather than shutting down every avenue bought forward'', I strongly disagree. Sure, it's fun to speculate and see what everyone thinks. But there have been many occasions where some members (who shall remain unnamed) have come up with incredibly unlikely suggestions that we already know have no chance of happening. Speculating is fun, but we have to keep the discussion within the realm of possibility

This is a discussion, not gatekeeping. Nobody who’s speculating is calling each other stupid or suggesting they aren’t real fans because of their opinions (there was some troll mouthing off a few pages back, but they’ve disappeared back into whatever hole they came out of). We’re just a bunch of people speculating and giving our opinions while we twiddle our thumbs waiting for the next set of leaks - there’s no indication of any hurt feelings and no fight that you need to break up.

Perhaps Gatekeeping was the wrong word, but it does seem some posters consistently come off as overly negative towards what I would consider quite interesting ideas. Reading this pattern over pages and pages of this thread becomes somewhat tiresome and usually puts me off posting myself.

Completely agree with you here! That’s also my reason not to post anymore.

I can get that. In the current absence of leaks a lot of us jump on speculation discussion with the same amount of gusto we would for leaks or set analysis, which could definitely be intimidating. The thing to remember is not to take things personally and if you don’t want to get into a multi page discussion about the merits of your theories then you don’t have to respond to anyone who wants to criticize them (it takes two to tango after all). Some people enjoy getting into those kind of debates, but nobody’s going to judge you if you want to Say your piece and then leave things where they are and let the thread move on to something else.

The old sets (2001-2002) could all join together but they still had the pieces to go under them, just because a set is made that can go under a set doesn’t mean it has to be, as long as they did bring out small sets that could go under each of the castle pieces (potions rooms, all of the challenges from ps, chamber of secrets, slytherin common room, in general other classrooms, troll... in the dungeons) they could do cos under the great hall, the tasks under the clock tower, the potions classroom under the womping willow, the slytherin common room for under the astronomy tower, room of requirements in the form of the hiding things room under the next part. Not many people have the space to actually display the current sets( with future ones) together using the set arrangement so I don’t think it would make much difference to add some bits under some of the castle pieces, they could even release future sets like the 2011 two towers and bridge set with rocks at the bottom anyway.

Wait is that for real? That would be awesome! I don't own the nanoscale castle but this makes me seriously reconsider. Either way if I could use the lights for the system scale sets it would be even better.

Yes they are showing only the boxes at LEGO World Copenhagen, denmark :D

The LEDs for Hogwarts are so cool! It reminds me a bit of the lights they use for Hogwarts at the Wizarding World.

As I read, they are just testing in that store, how the customers react to it. If someone takes a box, they‘ll do an interview with them, but you can‘t really purchase them. It’s kind of a marketing test and if the customer’s reactions are positive they might release these LED-kits. So for now, it’s not a leak - just an interesting move from LEGO. I like them though :)

True. personally i have chosen to ignore a bird. the bird apperantly can´t fly and shoot down peoples ideas all the time. because they are unrealistic. every idea should be welcome, even if its a wish for a 10$ set with 10 dementors on centaurs firing blasters.

I you choose to ignore someone (in this case me) that's fine, I really don't care. But don't disrespect people just because they're being realistic and share that opinion.

Discussions? Great! Speculation? Great! Suggesting sets for upcoming years? Fine, but keep it in the realm of possibility. If we don't do that it won't be long untill someone suggest a Battle of Hogwarts set with 100+ figures and this thread will go off the rails real fast...

Yeah, there’s a difference between disagreeing on what’s the most likely set Lego could make, and wish-listing or absurdity to practically the point of trolling. A discussion on Grimmauld Place v. Weasleys Wizarding Wheezes is a potentially enjoyable debate - spending several pages explaining to someone why Lego wouldn’t consider their niche dream set profitable because they keep bringing it up despite there being other subjects to potentially discuss is just a bit exhausting, and distracts from the actual news.

Fingers crossed that these marketing tests are going well.

The choice of sets is interesting. In addition to the Hogwarts D2C there’s also two Creator Expert sets - a modular town building and one of the cars, the Lego Ideas treehouse and a Friends set of all things. If I had to hazard a guess I’d say they were trying to get not just an idea of whether a light function line would work but also which themes it would sell the best in — i.e. Hogwarts Castle could be representative of lisenced IPs and Architecture, the Creator Expert car is similar enough to the technic vehicles line, combining the info from the modular building and the Friends set will probably give them an idea how the light mods would sell for City, etc.

That's an interesting strategy, I wonder what will be the results.

If these were to be released do you think they would have deprecate instructions for how to rebuild them with the lights? Assuming the lights are piece replacements

I think so, would be quite impossible for the average Lego builder to build the thing otherwise. Or at least I hope they will, wouldn't really make sense if they didn't.

I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t, and if they’re trying to compete with the current unofficial fan versions they really have to.

I was considering getting an unofficial lighting set for Hogwarts UCS last Christmas. Was excited to hear LEGO were possibly releasing their own official versions, but at those prices! No way. Saying that, some of the unofficial versions feature remote controlled displays, with colour changing lighting sequences and flickering effects for the candles in the great hall etc. I doubt any official version will match the features and price of those unfortunately.

I would get a third party kit if you want anything soon especially as you might just be paying for almost the same item repackaged by Lego. https://brickset.com/article/48909/night-mode-more-information

I was the one who originally reported these Light kits to Brickset after finding them on the shelves at LEGO World. I tried purchasing the set for the Mustang since I was very curious about how they worked, surprised that I'd never heard of them before, and the Mustang set was not that expensive.

The facts are:

  • The light kits does not currently exist
  • They may actually never produce this type of kit (but at least now we know that they are seriously considering it)
  • The boxes are just mockups (they looked pretty good though)
  • The pricing was most likely set just to have a starting point for their question (I was asked "What do you think about the price?")

I know this type of kit has been requested by AFOLs on multiple occasions where LEGO have asked for feedback from fans, so nice to see that they follow up.

For anyone considering a light kit for Hogwarts I agree with @BacktoBricks that it is probably better to get a custom kit now, rather than wait (a long time!) for something that may never happen.

Thanks for the link, yeah I'll probably grab something in time for next Christmas. Once this year's Potter sets and prices are official confirmed I can start juggling the finances and put some money towards a 3rd party set.

No problem. Sounds like a good plan.

Interesting. I hope that they continue to listen to fan feedback and note down not only the desire for perhaps more generic kits, not too steep pricing, but also the perception that their handling of the situation appears less than scrupulous.
