Why are we even discussing August 1st as an option? Not only is it a weekend, when Lego typically doesn’t do reveals, but it isn’t the date of Harry’s first visit to Diagon Alley. Hagrid breaks down the door of the-hut-on-the-rock just after it strikes midnight and becomes July 31st, he gives the whole “yer a wizard Harry” speech, they both get a few hours of sleep, wake up after the sun’s risen, then Hagrid takes Harry directly to Diagon Alley still on July 31st. By the time August 1st rolls around Harry is already back at No. 4 Privet Drive. If Lego wants the use a date significant to the story they’re only option is July 31st (unless the really reach and use Neville’s birthday I guess, but that’s still not in August).

Aren't the Lego sets based on the films? I am just now rereading the series since I was like 6 years old, and I totally forgot that Harry goes back to Privet Drive for like 2 more weeks! In the movie don't they have Harry go to Hogwarts on the 31st as well?

I think it’s implied that since he’s still with Hagrid when he shows up at King’s Cross, he never went back to Privet Drive, though since the train leaves at 11:00AM, and I think they have lunch at the Leaky Cauldron after getting all his school supplies, they probably spent the night at LC and went to King’s Cross the next day, so August 1st, instead of September 1st, which I don’t think is too big of a change. The precise date never has any plot relevance in the movies anyway :shrug_oh_well:

Yeah, the movies play fast and loose with exact dates when it comes to anything other than Harry’s birthday, Halloween, and Christmas. Not that the books are that much better since September 2nd/the first day of classes seems to fall on a Monday six years in a row. :snicker:

After the CMF and diagon alley are revealed that'll be 3 full years of the HP reboot. Is this the best 3 year stretch any Lego theme has had or have other themes had better runs? Personally I think these 3 years are as good as any but I'm curious what everyone else thinks.

I mean, being popular enough to get an entire new line of advent calendars started its second year out of the gate is pretty unprecedented. Especially since Harry Potter is full stop getting more exclusive prints and characters in its ACs compared to Star Wars.

Hi everyone! So I just want to give everyone any info I could possibly have: basically I’ve been pretty desperate waiting for the sets to be released in the US so I ended up pining for the Super Mario sets since they’re the only other newly released theme remotely interesting to me (actually I did also buy one Hidden side set out of desperation as well lol) and I’ve been going from Target to Target, Walmart to Walmart trying to find them (since they’re not technically released till aug 1). Long story short, i finally found them at target tonight, alongside some mysteriously placed Harry Potter barcodes that caught my eye in a suspiciously empty looking Harry Potter lego section. I looked up the numbers from the barcodes and it turns out they were putting out the placeholders for the space where the upcoming (or already released for the rest of the world lol) HP sets will be. When I asked a target team member when they will be in stock they told me to arrive bright and early on August 16th, and that is when they will be putting them out!!! :pir-oh::pir-wub: finally an official release date for the US, at target at least!! Seeing how things went w Super Mario, we might even luck out and have them put out even earlier than the street date. Also, for anyone wondering, the super mario set WAS streetdated in the employee’s system (on their target mobile phones) but WASNT streetdated at the registers, so I was able to purchase. Im really hoping the same thing happens with HP! Disclaimer: I know this technically was already sort of confirmed by the Burrow preorder on Target.com but now we officially know when all of them are coming!

I totally agree with you @Nick unassembled .. when the first Potter sets arrived I was deep into my dark ages .. the reboot sets arrived and I thought .. they’re ok .. then I decided to collect the teaching staff figures, as more sets appeared I thought I’ll just collect the figures from the whole range, so bought many on the secondary market, THEN I decided I’d just like a couple of sets .. this spiralled quickly into wanting more and eventually them all. There’s no other range I can think of to compare this against other than Star Wars, but it’s not really a fair comparison.

There are a couple of things I think Lego have dropped the ball on and I’ve thought ‘what we’re they thinking’ .. like no dress printing on Bellatrix in The Burrow and those white door frames in The Astronomy Tower .. but overall it’s a fantastic range .. here’s to year 4’s sets  ^_^

So as we probably have a few more days minimum to wait until the CMF release, why don't we play a game of I Spy? Basically, as we have seen the packet we know 9/16 figures (Professor Sprout, Neville, Bellatrix, Luna, Dumbledore, Myrtle, HBP Harry, Kingsley, Griphook) so there are only 7 unknown.

If you could 'Spy' just one more figure on the packet, who would it be? Or in other words, if there was just one more figure in the CMF, who would you choose? Character, their outfit and accessory, and why.

Mine would be Rita Skeeter, acid green suit, Quick-Quotes quill and notepad tile, because she is not a main character, but not just background and the GOF minifigures just don't feel complete without her and others such as Karkaroff and Merpeople. However, whilst past waves have proven that we can hope for more than just the main characters, unlike Karkaroff and Merpeople I can't see Rita coming in any other set at the moment because even if Lego did go back to GOF and do the Durmstrung Ship or Lake challenge she doesn't really fit with those scenes.

@BacktoBricks we’re all getting desperate, aren’t we?

“I spy with Moody’s magical eye ) ...Madam Pomfrey in the only outfit she wears in the films, dress slope or legs would both be acceptable, with a bottle of Skele-gro (a print on an existing bottle piece wouldn’t bother me too much).  However, she definitely needs a new hood/bonnet/whatever you call her headpiece.

I’m all but certain that we’ll be seeing this figure, given that a.) she didn’t appear in the Hospital Wing and b.) Chamber of Secrets is getting a lot of love this year.

We are ? Thanks for playing  Good choice. The Skele-gro bottle would be an awesome accessory.

She also wears a dressing gown in CoS when they bring in Colin, as well as a back cloak in HBP with a different hat, but the outfit you're talking about is by far the most prevalent, and the one I'd want most by far!

Damn, I’ve been out-Pottered!

Really hoping we’ll get some more news today...

I really want a Ron figure in his Quidditch outfit!

This seems medium-likely, and I hope you get your wish!

Out of the possible Ron variants, this does seem like one of the most likely options, especially if all members of the trio are based on HBP  ...even though there‘s no particularly memorable HBP outfit for Hermione that comes to mind :shrug_oh_well:

That reminds me that the CMF reveal itself really won‘t be all that spectacular. Of course I‘m excited for it, but out of the 7 unknown ones, two have to be Ron and Hermione and there‘s stille wiggle room for a second version of Harry, just like in the first series. Speaking of which, the lack of random students so far concerns me a bit, so another spot could go to one of them, leaving us with around 3 potentially more exciting characters  (Unless you count Neville and Myrtle as random students, which is debatable)

I‘m not complaining since the 9 we do know about are all excellent, but when it comes to the reveals, I‘m definitely much more excited for DA :snicker:

I don't know I've kind of given up hope for this week (Lego prove me wrong I dare you!). After so many weeks of thinking we may get something and then nothing I just feel a bit flat this week.

The VIP questions are for the DA release, that is a safe bet and they have had several days to look true them now..
The date for Harry's first visit there is on Friday so I have really high hopes for this week :excited:

My belief in the DA is so great that I think it would have a spot among the 16 best sets this millennium(a poll ongoing on Brickset now) if it came out earlier this year..
I know I am setting myself up for disappointment, but with the quality of the HP sets and 400$ it better be good

As I‘ve said before, don‘t underestimate how long this process takes  Selecting the questions is one thing, answering them another. We also don‘t know how long that event will be and how many questions they ended up picking

And it undoubtedly would‘ve lost against any of the competing modular or Ideas sets, just like Hogwarts  I think all of the 16 sets that made it into the competition are worthy, but I will never get why the NASA Apollo V made it this far (and may even end up winning, mark my words). Sure, it’s a unique building experience, which I can attest to myself, but I don’t see why that should put it above any of the other 15 entries which are all more appealing in my eyes and are also full of cool techniques :shrug_oh_well: AFOLs and space sets, forever a mystery

*rant over*

As unlikely as it is, I really hope we get a Hagrid in his vest from PoA. It could also include fang if it wont break the bag.

However I just realized he appearance in that outfit/something very similar in deathly hallows, so hopefully if he is not in the cmf, he is in a remake of 4865.

Yes, but they can not have that kind of promo very long before the set is revealed. Say If they in January did that they would confirm that something very big is coming, it is suppose to be a secret right

Answer them should be no problem, takes one day tops. The selecting is the time-consuming part, but if they just pick the 10 first good ones and discard the rest :shrug_oh_well:

Maybe, but Hogwarts got far and it is not system-scale (they seems to be more popular). Anyway top 16 or top 8 the last 20 years is not bad

Hagrid would definitely fit in the new-style bag, but it would be a bit of a wasted spot I think, even if he came with Fang. I’d rather see an entirely new character rather than one we already have two versions of

We'll definetely get that version of Hagrid eventually but I doubt LEGO will put him in the CMF and I don't want them too either. I don't think they'll ever reuse the YB figure and they can't keep reusing the 'normal' one (technically they can ofc) so they'll have to do it eventually :shrug_oh_well:

I totally agree.  Personally, I feel absolutely sure that we’ll get a Diagon Alley press release on Friday, possibly leaking a day early.

For a while I was resistant to that idea because it’s JK Rowling’s birthday, but you know what?  The timing is right, and there’s no way the designers are going to pass that up that in-universe reference to Harry’s first visit.

Reveal on Friday, early VIP release halfway through August, mark my words.  :sweet:

I agree, especially as they can emphasize that it’s HARRY’S birthday, and perhaps some other people coincidentally do as well :shrug_oh_well:

Regardless, we are super close! It’s going to be a beast of a set.
