UKFan922 Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 (edited) Guys the exclusive minifigure of the Magical Treasury book has been revealed as Tom Riddle! Do you think this rules out a CoS set as he seems to be based on CoS instead of HBP Tom. Edited February 29, 2020 by UKFan922

His torso looks a little bit weird but maybe that's because it's meant to the old-timey Hogwarts uniform. Unfortunately if they're including him here it's likely that there's no Chamber of Secrets on the horizon any time soon. However, they released Ollivander in a promo in 2018 and he could still turn up in a set someday so never say never.

Maybe this Tom Riddle is from HBP, from when he talks with Slughorn, so maybe the Chamber of Secrets is still possible. Edited February 29, 2020 by RAMcGonagall
BrickBob Studpants Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Good choice Finally a book-exclusive minifig that isn’t Harry
BacktoBricks Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 (edited) Thank you @UKFan922 It definitely looks like COS Tom to me. You can see a clear image of the character here in the extra images: https://www.amazon.co.uk/PotterTM-Magical-Treasury-exclusive-minifigure/dp/0241409454/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Lego+magical+treasury&qid=1582975756&sr=8-1 So I think this rules out a Chamber set anytime soon, but definitely as one of the unknown August wave; this book is released in September so I would say has the new sets in. I do hope they go back around to it. But a good figure to get, so long as it doesn't mean Lego has no intention of going back. Edited February 29, 2020 by BacktoBricks
Micmac Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 think its definitely Chamber of Secrets version
lego_guyon02 Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Crap, I pretty much have to buy that book now. Though this definetely doesn't rule out a Chamber of Secrets set. The figure pictured below is Unkar's Brute who was ''exclusive'' to one of the Star Wars books in 2016, later in 2017 lego released the exact same figure in the Quadjumper set.
strangely Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Yeah, on the sample book page for Voldemort they specify it's the COS version of Tom Riddle.
Balrogofmorgoth Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Wow, I really like that figure. I hope it doesn’t mean we won’t end up getting a Chamber at some point.
MaximVlogs Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 we can get a secret chamber through the deathly hallows. do not rule out this moment
LegoFjotten Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Nice figure! On one hand it is great that they do a new figure for a book, on the other not so great that I will have to buy a book instead of a LEGO set to get it. Beggars can't be choosers though, and I want as many unique figs as I can get my hands on.
Accio Lego Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Obviously the way to get around CoS Tom being released as a book exclusive is for any future Chamber set to come with a version of him from after Harry has stabbed the diary and he’s littered with glowing magical holes.

Or maybe they released him like this because we’re getting a Chamber set soon but they couldn’t fit him into the set for whatever reason. This figure just doesn’t really make sense without that set Edited February 29, 2020 by Balrogofmorgoth

JKR has supported the decision - stating that she never specified Hermione’s race in the books, the movies have already played fast and loose with some of the character appearances from the books, and ultimately the play and movies are different cannons that aren’t obliged to conform to each other’s visual appearances. With so many other things to dislike about the production, the fact that you’re so hung up on it is coming off as uncomfortably racist. Offence was taken from that, you have clearly misread my comment, I’m saying I don’t want a black hermione figure because it would cause inconsistencies in the lego sets, not the universe as a whole. And also hermione is very obviously white in the books, have you ever heard of a black person with a name like hermione jean granger? And black peoples faces don’t pale when they get shocked, as well as the fact that if a black person got a tan you wouldn’t make it a specific note to call them brown. So I’m not racist, I just don’t like people changing things just for the sake of inclusion. the Tom riddle figure is amazing, so much better than the 2001/2 (not entirely sure) version who was basically indistinguishable from Harry as a glance. I’m assuming that the figure will be in a chamber of secrets set in the future but as a slight variant, maybe blood on his robes or a different face print, like how in one of the StarWars books palpatine was included and he was in a set with the same prints but on a different colour head

This figure just doesn’t really make sense without that set Surely a COS set just wouldn't make sense without Tom Riddle in it though? It would have to be really poor planning not to be able to fit him in; as much as I know most of us really want a new Lockhart minifigure, even he would be less vital to a Chamber of Secrets set than Riddle. To recreate the actual chamber scene only Tom, Harry and Ginny are really needed. As for the crest, they've printed the robes in a manner that the crest would be hidden underneath the front crease. Best case scenario: A COS set is coming in a future wave, probably next year, and will feature a version of this minifigure (e.g. one with another expression, or a dual moulded head) just something slightly different so that this minifigure remains technically 'exclusive'. This way Lego has used the book's budget to create that figure and included a figure with the book that will entice adults and collectors who wouldn't otherwise to buy the book because they can't know for sure a Tom Riddle will be coming with a future set. Worse Case Scenario: A Chamber Of Secrets set is not planned and Lego is including Tom Riddle to yes get collectors to buy the book, but also as fan service; because whilst we appreciate Tom Riddle, I think there are other figures that Lego could have included in the book that would be more appealing to children or recognisable to parents/grandparents who may be buying the book on a whim etc. As much as it might mean me buying a book I don't really want and doubling up on a similar figure, I'm personally hoping for Option 1.

Yes of course, I’m not saying it’s even likely, just listing off possibilities since we really have nothing to go on. But that was also ten years ago, the theme is very different now, very organized and planned out. I’m not saying it’s an indication of anything but it is the second COS product we know about this year. I’m just not sure why they’re giving that film so much attention
Accio Lego Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 I just realized that now that we’re getting CoS Tom Riddle the only character that we still need a flesh toned update for is Lockhart.

And Crabbe. We got Goyle in one of the 2011ish sets but no updated Crabbe unless I’m completely forgetting. He had a yellow version in the Slytherin Common room I think
Huigberts Builds Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 It's nice how we are getting Tom Riddle. I'm curious about the book, kinda appears like they only include information on the revived theme rather than its complete history. Tom looks kinda bland though without the Crest and Badge. Oh well, still happy we got him. 5 minutes ago, Accio Lego said: I just realized that now that we’re getting CoS Tom Riddle the only character that we still need a flesh toned update for is Lockhart. Well maybe the only figure, but if we're speaking about characters we also need a painting of the fat lady update .
Felkin Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Tom Riddle looks great! Wish he came with an undamaged diary, but that's the only niggle. Amazed to see he doesn't re-use the General Hux / Professor Snape legs!
Retro Brick Reviews Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Wow, that Tom Riddle figure looks great! Technically he should have mid-legs since here he's a 5th-year, but I'm willing to overlook that for the amazing print design and (somehow) imposing appearance.
lego_guyon02 Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Just looked up the price (for the Netherlands) and it's unbelievable how ridiculously expensive this book is. Not even books with 350+ pages and an actual story cost 21 euro, but this one with only 96 pages does. Don't get me wrong, the figure is great but what a ripoff. I'll get Tom from Bricklink or maybe the book itself when it goes on discount but no way I'm paying full price for this! 1 minute ago, Retro Brick Reviews said: Wow, that Tom Riddle figure looks great! The only 5th-years we've gotten so far are Wood and Flint (unless I missed someone) and they both use normal legs. Cho's CMF figure doesn't really count imo as they got Neville's legs wrong too
