I don’t know guys, maybe I had too high expectations, but something about the set feels “dead”. Like the street isn’t even there, the mini figures look so uninterested - it doesn’t feel like that awe-inspiring Diagon Alley you see in the first movie.

Looking back at the box pictures I kinda get what you mean though I think a large part of the problem is that the figures are all just sorta standing around lol - I mean eight of them can't even be put in walking positions because of either short legs or Mrs Weasley's dress piece so a lot of dynamic poses aren't really possible. However I don't think a box picture could really capture the hustle and bustle of Diagon Alley in the first two films without a lot more figures.

I think with a lot of extra figures thrown in and some extra stalls around the pavement it will seem a lot more alive and busy!

Also, I wish there was a more hyped official reveal. It feels like Lego wants to pretend this doesn’t exist and sneak it into their stores September 1st

While it's probably 450 I'm still holding out hope for it to be 400, considering there isn't really any kind of pattern to which sets do and which ones don't get a price increase

Yeah it does have almost 500 pieces less so fingers crossed!

You’re right, I totally think it’s the box art! Why is everyone so spread apart? I think we really need like 6 or 7 more mini figures.

like you said though, that’s probably the easiest thing to add!

It is hard to tell because we cannot really see a big portion of the wall, but QQS seems to have a pinky tone as well in the Harry Potter Studio Tour :classic:: check here and here.

I think the reveal will still be exciting. The Q&A should be fun, and I also can't wait for the designer video after the set releases. The NES designer video just came out a few days ago and it was super interesting.

I watched the DA scene from Philosopher's Stone in 4k and it's even more clearly pink there. It's not bright pink, obviously, but it's a LEGO set. The colors are expected to be exaggerated and bright.

Social distancing?

 That was a good one.

I agree, some pavement would have been nice to place the minifigs... But the set is still looking gorgeous to me. (If I forget about its price, of course...)

I was just looking at the box art and I think for me it's the fact that the sky is just a big stretch of clouds. Now this is an English street so fair's fair, but add that gloomy sky to the fact that the street isn't bustling and it gives it that 'dead' feel to me. It reminds me a lot of HBP Diagon Alley, except the stores are more colourful here.

The minifigure count is also disappointing I'm not going to lie. This theme is normally generous with the figures and when you think that the last 'DA' got 12 figures for a lot less money and when other licensed sets of this price have had more figures the lineup is underwhelming. And considering that Diagon Alley is know for its crowded street atmosphere it feels like this set over any should have a decent amount of figures.

Of course there is the argument that the last DA included figures and buildings such as Fenrir and Gringotts respectively that we have either had or we assume we will get and overall we will be getting more, but then the overall price will also be a lot more. :sceptic:

Yea there’s something that feels “off” with the box art. Oh well when you separate that from the actual set the street is obviously gorgeous! Now I can buy other sets to get mini figures and lighten it up a bit :)

Definitely excited that they are planning on expanding it! I cannot wait for Gringotts

I'm not a HP fan so I can't judge how the set compares to the original, but the street looks fantastic and with great playability. A Western or Castle themed set would have been a dream come true...

I think adding Gringotts to the scene will really make it come alive. It's that old argument again as to whether Gringotts is essential for DA and whilst Lego are clearly separating, I personally think Gringotts is what will really make this diorama better. It will add some more height and majesty. Put the dragon on the top and it will be the icing on the cake so to speak. I just hope that the Gringotts set will fit together well with DA in terms of detail and size.

I agree. I think the box art really doesn’t do this set justice. The big stretch of blue sky and clouds makes the buildings look low and squat - almost like they are supposed to be part of a weird technicolor Western film set. It would’ve been nice if the box sets gave us some forced perspective and accentuated the lean of the buildings, which is most apparent in QQS.  A bit more of a gloomy sky would’ve gone better with the theme too. Not a fan of whoever the new box art designer is. They even messed up poor Neville on the CMF box!

Almost feel like the black box art would have been better now - it would make the colours pop at least.

I agree that the box art isn't the best, but Neville actually looks fine on the CMF box. He's only messed up on the website image

I totally agree ? the box art makes it feel a bit grey.

This is why you don’t wait a week before to officially release it Lego! The set is beautiful and it deserves a proper reveal

I agree that the official reveal pictures will undoubtedly make it look better. That being said, having already seen the set it will take some of the magic away. As for the box I'm not actually bothered about keeping boxes these days although I may for something this size, I just think it undersells the set which is unfortunate.

Wow, it's beautiful! I can't wait to see the high res pictures of the interiors and all the details. Come on Lego, the cat is out of the bag! Give us those crisp renders ?

At this point it could be revealed on my birthday (August 26th) never thought that was a possibility ?

This set is so confusing to me. I've been really excited for it until I saw the minifigures and now I can't help but feeling it's just too expensive for what it comes with :sceptic: 14 figures is a lot, but for a $400 set it feels lackluster (especially compared to the 20+ in the rumored $300 Ninjago City set) and the figures that are there are mostly repeats. Admittedly, Lockhart and Lucius are great additions, but it's honestly a bit weird to me that there's no shop owner for F&B and Scrib. It really is a beautiful set, and I really like it overall but the price makes it hard for me to justify if it isn't full of stuff I really want. I think at $300-$350 this would be fine but I personally want more characters (especially ones that could only be in a set like this) for $400.

On a different note, I really don't get why people are so upset about how LEGO is doing reveals...they have a plan and they're sticking to it. Just be patient. They can't help if someone leaks it in the meantime :shrug_oh_well:

I am very surprised that the leaked Harry didn't show up in this set though. I also noticed there doesn't seem to be an entrance (other than Knockturn Alley) when I'm pretty sure there was one in the set description...I wonder if the HP-4 set that ninjawhip told us about is a $300 GWP that's the brick entrance with that Harry? Just a thought :shrug_oh_well:

Yeah I kinda feel the same way. I was actually super excited for this set, but it feels like a lot of mostly empty rooms with not enough minifigures to fill them up. Diagon Alley is supposed to be a crowded, bustling place. This is a great modular creator set. But I'm just not feeling it as a Harry Potter set.

And yeah, Ninjago City is a super high bar to live up to, but still. That set was $100 less. This set feels good... but I'm not blown away.

(The Lucius minifigure is a huge step up though, he looks beautiful!!)

Yeah do I do feel that spending $400 on other Harry Potter sets is more worth it than this... I also don't like the fact that the bottom floors are all just the base plates and there is no extra tiles.
