karrit Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 I expected WWW to be the biggest building in the set rather than QQS. I may try to piece together some of the original buildings to make a larger group of shops as well as alternate colors for some of these once the instructions are published.
Megbricks Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 How do you guys think the Windows are made? The red ones?

Sand red would work perfectly for the pink section and it would make the Gilderoy figure more accurate (even if that costume is still inaccurate to the scene). That would have been great. I wonder if I have enough sand red pieces to work something out...

Regarding the lack of props outside the stores I had commented about, I might just take out things like the chests, love potions, boxes and wands and put them there Also, the box art is incredibly cramped, as if they didn’t want you to see the where the buildings start and end... mhmm suspicious. Maybe it’s just to give the illusion of the large alley it really is, or a small indicator “their alley” does not end there.

Yes, making them have closed backs wouldn’t prevent this, but it would massively increase the depth for little addition to the set (except on the price, that would be a large addition). To make a two sided street you need a table so that you can view it from all angles, and most of us don’t have the space. Really? ;) I wouldnt dare to guess like that :) I for myself have a shelve where I store my sets (those that i have intact) but in near future I am planning to have a small table (like 3x2m or so to make some city diorama or layout ;)

I think it's probably just the reality of trying to take a picture (or render) of a 1m long set. Show the whole thing and the detail becomes too small and we get even more dead space above/below the set.
YetiZombie Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Is Lockhart's hair this piece in medium nougat? If so, I don't think it'll look as bad as I originally thought. It looks a bit too orange in some lighting, but in other images (like this Captain America) it looks like it would fit Lockhart well.

The box art doesn't look professional at all, why didn't they use the excellent dark blue design of all the other Wizarding World sets? Was the designer on vacation and the trainee did it?
Huigberts Builds Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 I'm off for a few hours and the set leak, typical xD. It appears birthdays and songs are the answer to all our problems :D. (for tldr, I love the set, Harry is a mystery, and I think I know what happened to Lockhart.) Either way this set looks amazing. I absolutely love it, it's massive. Guess it was a microscale set after all . But in all seriousness, this set is absolutely gorgeous. I'm not sure if I can pick a favourite building or section. I think if I had to pick it might actually be WWW. I just love how we're finally getting some chaotic staircases in lego Harry Potter, and overall the interior is probably the best looking of the bunch. Not sure why anyone is surprised about the colour, it's pretty much the same is in the gwp one. Only funny thing is how they got a different colour for the hat in both the gwp and d2c www, but neither of them are accurate. It's supposed to be more of a brownish colour. Doesn't bother me at all though. I also gotta love the entrance to knockturn alley, with the crooked windows and all, gives the idea how massive this place is. Next up Flourish and Blotts. It looks great, tons of books both inside and outside, which was basically my only wish. And ofcourse the second floor, which makes the place all the more recognisable. Kinda odd to see the green from the outside on the inside, which is supposed to be more reddish and brown, but the choice is obvious and I actually think it works really well. The ice cream parlor looks very cute. A lot of little places for the wizards and witches to sit. It actually looks quite similar to a lot of the mocs people made and even a little like the build your own adventure design, only bigger. Really glad it’s included in its entirety instead of just an ice cream cart. Still I think I might customise the place a bit by adding an ice cream cone on the outside like in the park. Ollivanders looks like a step up from the previous version, which actually still holds up pretty well as a set. The interior is a huge upgrade though. The counter in the old one was really badly placed, and the second floor was kinda a mess (which kinda works considering the state of the shop, but this works so much better. I also love the chimney build. Scribbulus looks like a pretty fun inclusion, although the pictures are kinda hard to see. I actually love QQS. I really don’t mind the pink (although I’m kinda curious towards that edit you guys have been talking about). Either way it helps make the street pop. I was afraid it would look kinda boring and dark, but the set is full of colour, as diagon alley should be. With the store selection basically all stores look totally different from each other, which is probably also one of the reasons this selection was made. There’s an orange and purple building, pink and red, green, yellow, blue and finally there’s Ollivander’s in more neutral colours. If you change around the order a bit it would become a nice rainbow. Either way back to QQS, the store is probably the one that portrays the crooked look the best. Really curious if the windows are prints or stickers. The interior is pretty cute as well. Although it might look rather empty when I remove the quidditch uniforms. I might need to order an extra pair of the cheaper Slytherin and Gryffindor robes to fill in the space. I might pick up the old QQS set if I can find it online to add the quidditch book to the interior and perhaps add the old sign to give it even more texture. It’s also missing a counter. The only let down is the daily prophet, nothing inside, not even a new newspaper print. I think I might just bricklink the old newspapers from 2011 and such. I also think it looks kinda awkward how QQS continues above the daily prophet from the outside, it feels kinda pointless. Either way I think I might add a small building next to it to create a custom interior for it. I assume the wanted posters go in here, but that still leaves us with one more wanted poster on the f&b sheet unaccounted for. I wonder where it goes. Now for the figures, they’re really not too bad. Sure it’s missing the hbp characters, but I really didn’t care for them anyway, most of them would’ve looked too generic to be recognisable and are probably done more justice in another set. Hagrid is about what I expected. Fred and George look good, finally two different torsos instead of them being the exact same figure. Molly looks really boring though, I rather had Arthur, but still a nice inclusion. Ginny looks fine. The trio are looking a little bit generic, would have rather had them with more of the shirt showing, would’ve been great for Ron who’s ac shirt is showing underneath. But I guess this way they saved some money by using the exact same torso. Draco looks good. Luscious looks good as well, is that the Dumbledore hairpiece? I think so. Would be a shame if it’s the Bruce Wayne head though. Still I’m not too sad as I own the 2011 Lucious, whose face was pretty much perfect. I don’t think he’s too expensive on bricklink anyway. Shame about the cane though. All I needed from this set was an updated hairpiece, so I’m happy. I’m also happy Ollivander is the same, the figure looked great the previous time as the sideburns didn’t bother me at all. Couldn’t get my hands on the set so I’m glad I’ll have another shot at him. Florean Fortescue brings a little bit of well needed life into the street. The photographer looks great as well. Love the piece useage for his hat. The short legs make sense as the guy was shorter than eleven year old Ginny. And I think the hat makes up for the height anyway. The owls look great as well. Now for Lockhart, probably the most anticipated figure of them all. I feel mixed about him. First of all they used the same hair as J2G and Ashnflash used for their cmf one, and I really don’t like that piece, especially in that colour. I think I might actually swap it out for the old hairpiece, or I might use the dog trainer hair, although that one might be a little too light. I just hope lego will release the jim gordon hair in tan someday. Might even use the Duke Caboom hair, still the wrong colour, but oh well. His face looks new, but it’s hard to see, although I’m not so sure I like the expression, his face should kinda be exaggerated. His cape looks nice though, I hope it has a different colour on the other side to help him jump out. It’s basically the one thing that could save or break this figure for me. Now for the torso, the colours are obviously off. Although I know exactly why that is. There is this promotional image from CoS, taking place in Flourish and Blotts, and there his clothes have the exact same colour as this figure, the lightning must be off. So I think this is another 2018 Quirrell situation. I mean look at this, it's pretty spot on to the figures colours. Now for the missing Harry figure, I guess the wait still isn’t over. I can at least say for certain that he won’t be in a B&B set. The torso doesn’t make sense for the scene and we already have 3 of the 4 figures for that scene in this set. Honestly I’m not even sure if it comes at all within the next 2 years. My two cents are that it’s either a surprise year 1 Gringotts set. Kinda makes sense actually as we already got year 7 Griphook in the cmf, and a year 7 set would look kinda empty without him. Sure they reused Dobby, but that was in 2018, when the future of the theme greatly depended on whether or not it would sell. So they just tried to give us the most important characters in case the theme would die again. It would also make sense to release Gringotts alongside Diagon Alley, as they do belong together. Although the more likely scenario is that we will get him in a gwp set. Most likely the brick wall as people have pointed out. Would also go nicely with the gwp diagon alley, as people who only pick those two up have the right figures for the scene. Although the build might look rather boring for a gwp set. But it’s too complicated for a polybag. So I thought maybe they would also throw in Hagrid and his motorbike? Might be a little too much though. Either way I love this set. The buildings look great and there’s not a single one I dislike. The figures are nothing too spectaculair, but still very nice, it at leasts fills up a huge gap. I guess we’re now only missing an updated Narcissa, right? Not counting peeves and the statues obviously. Or I guess we might also miss werewolf Lupin. Either way I’ll definitely buy this set, not day one though, as I wanna find out where Harry ends up first. The buildings are massive and would look great next to the modular buildings. Sure it has an open back, but I prefer that actually, and it’s easily fixable. I just hope they won’t look out of place next to the Hogwarts sets. I mean it’s a little but big, might even consider it minifigure scale rather than system. It stands really well on its own and will do just fine without Gringotts. As long as we get it later down the line. Can't wait to get my hands on this gorgeous set.

The hair color works well IMO, but dark tan would’ve worked better (I know the same piece in that color exists as well) What puts me off is the style. Hair only does not change real people, but minifigures as well And unfortunately, a big part of the accuracy relies on the hair. It needs to be wavier, more flowy, more Lockhart.

Zepthire Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 I've made an edit to make QQS sand red. Doesn't look bad but not like the building. Looking at BrickLink's colour guide, I honestly think what they went with was the best choice for the colour.

MooneyRemus Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 I don’t check the forum for 1 day and this happens lol. I’m going to wait until we get HD pictures to really pick it apart, but my first thought is that I love the different roofs! So many textures and building techniques. Minifigs are a bit hard to make out, but I am not surprised we’re getting 14. Always thought it was a stretch to expect 20+ or whatever it was people wanted for a licensed themed like HP. If there is no GWP or something, I am going to hold off buying this set for as long as possible - I strongly feel it needs Gringotts, and I also strongly suspect we will be getting Gringotts in a separate set

Hope that they will come next year. At this price, I’m fine with stickers. They usually pay a lot of attention to detail, so it's weird to see them change something like this. The only reason I can think of for LEGO to change it intentionally is that he says his favorite color is lilac. The robes are definitely lilac.
