Modal Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Yea, watching the scenes from PS and CoS again, Marcos (or whoever designed this set) absolutely nailed accuracy. The only thing that doesn’t make sense in the film’s interpretation of DA is WWW. From the first two movies they would have to destroy the brick wall/Leaky Cauldron to get WWW in that location. It really does mean that we could get an expansion that includes the other side of the street! I know that’s less likely than Gringotts and Knockturn, but maybe if we show support of these sets they will feel obliged to continue just like they do with the Modular Buildings. I bet this set will be a massive success, even more than the castle! Modular fans will buy it even if they aren’t into Harry Potter.

I grabbed about 30 (there still plenty left). Can’t wait to open them up when I get home That's actually not too far away from me. I'm tempted but I should probably just buy them as a set.

Best picture of the film-accurate QQS I’ve seen, it’s even got that pink colour at the top. Thanks for posting it Thanks. Wasn’t sure if to post it or not as didn’t want to step on toes or anything. Shame I couldn’t find who had done it but it looks spitting image of the still frame I found in first film Including the hanging sign by the door

There is a missing layer of orange windows behind the built head and the sides. Like in the image below. And i miss the entreance wall. The rest is perfect. (and i hope they have the bunny ;)) It looks to me like they've changed that level of windows to fit a bunny function in, as the way they've built it looks like there would be room for some sort of mechanism
Modal Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Just finished the Hedwig build - such an amazing set! Really ingenious how some of these things are made.

For what it’s worth, my Target (Chicago suburbs) had them all today, and I was astonished. They usually don’t have anything early, but the CMF is clearly not street-dated. Apparently they’d just put them out ten minutes before I got there! I felt for all 16 (yes, even in the pandemic...) and got them all correct, with the exception of somehow accidentally picking up a second Myrtle instead of Fred...or was it George? The one with the betting box, anyway.
Modal Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 (edited) If anyone’s curious, I asked Ryan (MandR) his thoughts on DA. I think he had the same reaction as we did initially, ie a bit underwhelmed at first. He acknowledges it’s probably by the dreary Box Art though, which is what I think we have all concluded as well. just another reason to announce your set before it gets leaked, Lego!! I have no doubt we will love the set in the end, but the leak definitely did not do it favors. Edited August 23, 2020 by Modal

His videos are the most annoying/tedious Lego videos ever and honestly I find him to be ridiculously childish ??♂️

And I think his videos are entertaining. Regardless, I’m just dying to hear reaction s on the set! It’s like when you create a piece of music and you just can’t wait to hear how people connect to it :) (no I didn’t work on the set but I’m excited for the designers to be applauded!) Other content creators are either too child focused or get too greedy with ads (since they know kids will watch anyways).

I’m the same tbh, Jang and Jeremy Herbert are the only 2 I really watch, I VERY occasionally watch J2G, but atm I’m more interested in watching Hot Toys reviews/videos than Lego ??

Jeremy Herbert is awesome! Absolutely deserves more subs. He’s really thorough but also you can tell he’s a huge HP and Lego fan. The fact he’ll do older sets as he buys them makes it feel like we’re buying them with him. His videos are also very thoroughly researched. Jang is awesome too but I don’t think anyone needs telling that lol. One of the things I like about him came across in his Mario review - he said “I’m not a Mario fan so don’t know all the details” and yet he’d somehow made it seem like he knew exactly what he was talking about. I guess it’s very well researched. (It’s at least much better than some of the gaming channels now covering Lego stuff and not really knowing what to say... often they just review how every Lego set works lol. Although some have been really good.) Sorry, back to Harry Potter!

Lol You might be! something just seems off about it, perhaps the weird angle it’s at? I wish the box felt more alive. The 2018 micro scale box did it well with other buildings painting the background. This one feels different, but I can imagine how hard it was to get an angle on such a long set.

Yeah, I saw the picture of the movie DA here earlier and it’s been a while since I watched it, so I’d forgotten how narrow (uh it’s an alley) it is. Due to the wide ness of this set, and the not so wide box, it’s forced to have a very wide street. I can see why people don’t like it, it’s certainly an odd box art.

The one on the set just says “Quidditch” Because Lego has changed Quality Quidditch Supplies to Quantity Quidditch Supplies. Are you guys planning to get Diagon Alley at a Lego store or order it online? For me it will probably be going to the store.

I’ll be getting it at the store since it’s a few minutes away, but it’s curbside pickup only so idk if I’ll have to wait outside or what ?♂️

Have been trying to think of one and can’t even get close... I think Attack on the Burrow is just as accurate as DA, with the advantage that that set doesn't feature a massive pink cube.

You’re really not a fan of the pink cube ? I won’t lie I’ve warmed up a bit to it, especially seeing the movie footage and how accurate it is.

Lol I do as well - I asked myself for five months or so how the box art could look like as I've already expected a set that is wider than anything else which could be difficult to catch on a regular Lego box. And the solution they came up with is totally appropriate and fine for me. 32 minutes ago, bluedog1111 said: Are you guys planning to get Diagon Alley at a Lego store or order it online? RogueTwo Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 So where is that Year One Harry minifigure coming from? A gift with purchase? A winter/spring set? Any guesses?
chris6507 Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Quick question for anyone else that has looked into this... are the only released figures so far in relation to their set/school year that have the incorrect sized legs, the ones from the Hogwarts Express set? I have gone through and checked all of them as far as i'm aware, but just want to check I haven't missed anything. :-)
