Are we getting a owl in a new color in the set?

No. The tan owl is from a City firefighter set - nice that they’re reusing it here though.

And stores only getting four copies of the set on release day? Yikes. Glad I’d already decided to wait a couple months at least like I did for the microscale Hogwarts. I don’t fancy having that fight.

That’s not necessarily confirmed, just one employee at a random Lego store said. I’m sure a lot of them will have more than 4, but I guess who knows at this point.

Does anyone know the street order of the other side? Are there enough well-known buildings to make another D2C? Besides Gringotts that is.

The Leaky (complete with entrance to DA)! Borgin and Burkes, Madam Malkin's (where Harry meets Draco), the Eeylops Owl Emporium (where Hagrid buys Hedwig), the Magical Menagerie (the pet store where Hermione rescues Crooks and Ron goes to get some tonic to pep up Scabbers), Slug and Jiggers Apothecary (Potions), Dogweed and Deathcap (Potions ingredients - that might have been Hogsmeade, though, now that I think about it), and there's also a tea shop...

I'm happiest about F&B and Ollivander's, most sorry about not getting B&B, Gringotts and the Leaky, and most disappointed by the gelatinous pink cube. I just knew they were going to give us a large Quidditch store, because the interior is cheap as chips. For the price, I was expecting something else.

It's kind of weird that this set looks better to me spaced out than in a line :shrug_oh_well:

As great as this set it, unfortunately it's pushing me towards not buying HP sets anymore. I just don't know how I can justify spending $400 on a set, which I have no idea how I'm going to display, when I'm buying a house and getting married soon. In general this year, the sets have been getting more expensive and harder to justify but this really puts it over the top for me. $720 (not including the minifigure series or Hedwig) for JUST this years sets is kind of crazy, I've been getting rid of other stuff of my LEGO wish list to accommodate HP, but it feels like I'd be better suited cutting out these sets to still be able to buy more than a couple sets a year :sceptic:

But that's just me, for the people who can afford this theme it really is wonderful! I'm so glad that LEGO is giving us more playsets and less vehicles (which makes sense for HP but still)

You could always wait for DA of course. Chances are it’ll be around for two years(or more). Or just skip it & still get the others. It’s definitely hard to justify that price tag, even if you are a die hard HP fan.

Right, like I said I'm not opposed to it, just noting that it's very expensive and maybe prohibitively expensive for me. It is a little frustrating that I'd be missing out on Lockhart and Lucius if I skip it though since they were at the top of my list of missing minifigures I wanted at the end of the last wave with Ginny :shrug_oh_well:

There's always Bricklink if what's making you consider giving up all Harry Potter sets is just missing out on a couple of figures from the DA.

Personally I say buy what you can afford and have space for, and don't worry about the rest! This year I got three of the sets and will buy some of the CMF and that's just fine for me.

Does anyone know if we are getting anything free by buying DA on LEGO site with VIP account?

Haven't seen anyone mention this yet... According to Stonewars.de there will be two HP GWPs, from the 1st through the 14th or 15th (both were mentioned) (or for as long as supplies last), one with purchases upwards of 100 EUR - the Hagrid / Buckbeak Brickheadz set worth ca. 20 EUR (presently listed in the German shop as a gift article, and unclear if it will be available for regular purchase at a later date), and for purchases of 35 EUR and more, the Harry and Hedwig Owl Delivery Polybag, which has been in shops for a while now. (The latter may be only available as a gift in the Lego stores, though. It wasn't clear yet.)

so I just called my Lego store and they said they weren't sure if they were getting DA. It might just be that they either dont know or arent allowed to talk about it, however they said the same thing about the cmf.

Should I be worried?

Yeah, I remember trying to get the Ideas Saturn V for my dad when it first came out. They were getting about five copies in at a time, and they’d all sell out within the first minute of opening. I have zero faith that my local store will be able to meet the demand for the first few weeks at least.

Just checked the (American) website and the September calendar has been put up, with the Brickheadz and polybag being GWPs for purchases of Harry Potter Lego $100 and $40 respectively. Both are available from the 1st through 15th.

Pretty disappointed if those are the GWP’s. Would rather have what we were predicting (Dirty Harry with brick wall).

Though if people were remembering correctly, the micro scale DA GWP didn’t come until November or so?

The other Apothecary is Mr Mulpeppers :) D&D is Hogsmeade, the tea shop isn't in the films. Potages Cauldron shop and Wiseacres Wizarding Equipment are the most prominent ones missing not on your list, apart from Gringotts.

It’s possible that will be another gwp at a later date. Or it’s a DA specific gwp and doesn’t show up on the calendar because Diagon Alley isn’t on there either (although if that were the case I’d expect it to have leaked around the same time the first pics of the box did).

Is there actually any point (besides fun!) to build the QR code? Can't I just use the QR code in the instructions?

Also, does anyone know if there is s reason the last Ollivander figure can't be re-used? It seems a shame to allocate resources to a new shirt print for him when it looks just about the same as the last one. (Although I am the rare LEGO enthusiastic who loves when parts are re-used and dislikes unnecessary exclusivity!)

Just buy what you want and can afford. No one is forcing you to have a complete collection! If you see a set and think “cool, I’d like that, I’ll make some space for it”, then save up and get it. If you think “no that’s not worth it” then don’t buy it! :)

Also, now now, too little space isn’t a valid excuse, your Lego will just have to displace other stuff  I’d start with non essentials like the TV, cupboards, the toaster, and then if you need to you can move onto larger stuff like sofas and fridges. I moved my bed out last week - never going back to it.

Also do you guys think if Lego had released the grand piano alongside DA which do you think would have sold better?

DA every day of the week. Harry Potter + Modular = $$$

According to thebrickfan, it was "available at LEGO Brand Stores and Shop@Home from November 9-21 with purchases of $99 or more".
