So you want them to give credit to themselves? They may have taken the concept from another company but they deserve full credit for the original design of the LEGO brick as we know it

Hilary ‘Harry’ Fisher Page does in my eyes deserve credit. Can you honestly say that we would have the adored Lego brick without him? He spent years observing children and working on the idea of the building brick. It was HIS brick that was shown to the Lego founder “look what kind of things you can make if you buy one of my plastic injecting machines” (NOT a direct quote). Lego founder loves it and decides to buy a machine and make them despite them having a patent on them and being someone else’s idea. Both men sell the bricks under their companies but find they still need ‘tweaking’. Harry Page eventually takes his own life and I think the man who sold the injector machine told Lego how to fix the problem. Yes Lego then brought the patent years later and have given us years of enjoyment with the better design but we would not have Lego bricks in our life if it wasn’t for a man with a dream from England. I genuinely think he should get some form of a thank you from all of us.

So thank you Harry Page your idea was truly brilliant

I think this goes back to the larger point about the LEGO Harry Potter series that has been made by myself and several others on here - who is the target audience? LEGO is really trying to attract more girls and women with its LEGO Harry Potter series. The choice to use pastel purple and pastel pink give the whole set a more feminine, fantastical feel. Again, I don’t want to perpetrate problematic stereotypes, but pink is considered an indicator of a “girl’s product” in mainstream marketing. And ultimately, this is not a set about Death Eaters busting through Diagon Alley’s windows in the beginning of HBP and tearing Ollivander out of his shop. It’s a set that is ultimately about shopping and eating ice cream and buying love potions.

I don't think that's accurate here, although very insightful with regards to sets like the clocktower and astronomy tower. But if they made major design choices in a £350 set in order to appeal to little girls then they must think that their average customer is Veruca Salt.

It’s baffling that people are so hung up about a shop being pink and that it must be a selling point for prospective female customers. English architecture has seen pink as a regular colour since time immemorial, with Suffolk having its own pink since the 14th Century. It was painted on by fabric dyers (mostly men) who weren’t thinking, “this’ll be a nice treat for the wife” but, “what happens if I put berries in the plaster wash?” Honestly if that shop was a neutral colour no one would bat an eyelid. To be contrary, I agree that some of the marketing is targeted towards a female audience, just not the colour of one shop.

Very true! I did some research a while ago on the history of the colour pink and it wasn't perceived as a female colour until about 70 years ago, because some female celebrities of the 1950s made it their signature colour. More recently, a great deal has been made about "millennial pink", which is popular with both genders.

The psychology of colour works less with individual colours but with colour combinations -- red and green evokes Christmas, blue and white make us think of sailors etc. In this context, pink becomes a very girlish colour when combined with purple (as it is in Lego Friends). Pink and yellow (like QQS and the ice cream parlour) meanwhile is a colour combination that we subconsciously associate with the morning sky and therefore they evoke a hopeful and optimistic feeling (which echoes how Harry feels when he first sees Diagon Alley).

I don't particularly care for the pink but it's the pallet Lego is working with and easy enough to change when I get there.  My biggest problem is that I'm afraid I might be a little girl because I love ice cream and love potions (although the love potion my wife uses on me is usually bourbon.)  Is there any way to find out for sure if I'm a little girl instead of a grown man or is the ice cream pretty much the determining factor?  Oh, I also occasionally wear pink dress shirts, so probably definitely a girl.

For me, the problem with QQS is not the colour, but the fact that the top windows are not in the same style as the bottom windows. And although the shop's top windows are represented differently between parks with different colours, they are still in the same style as the bottom windows. Personally I would have liked the top windows to have the same sticker effect so that the panels look the same; the chosen design creates a disjointedness between levels and makes the top level look less quaint and more boxy.

Then add to that the fact that WWW is missing a whole level and does not tower above the rest of the buildings and it makes QQS look even more inflated. I have to admit that I was really looking forward to WWW, but the missing level does make it look rather stunted.

It's really hard to say for sure. You like bourbon and ice cream, so I'd say its about 50/50 right now.

Question for you all since it's easy to forget things after 612 pages ? There was a rumored underground scene set to also come out in the fall... has that set been proven fake or is it still coming? If so do we have any more info?

The “leaker” who rumored it has come under INTENSE scrutiny for offering at least some blatant lies, but I personally still think a surprise Gringotts set is possible.

Yes, but sometimes you don't know if it's worth doing that. I love shooting videos more than anything else. And my friend gave me a camera. But it was too expensive. And I didn't know how to react. Yes, I love it, but I don’t want people to spend so much on me. So I just replied: "You'd better not worry and buy me chocolate." :pir_laugh2:

has there ever been a mini figure that leaked an entire year before its set came out? The PS Harry is probably related to something for 2020 yea?

Posted (edited)

I know it’s unlikely but is it possible for us to get a small winter 2021 wave?

Maybe the second small wave for 2020 was pushed back cause of covid?

That would only make sense if a set gets postponed  We‘ve had early leaks before (e.g. last year, when Trudgen‘s head leaked along with the first wave of TROS sets in July while the sets the minifig belonged to was released in January), but not THIS early. I don‘t think they’ll suddenly start to release HP sets in 1HY either, so it has to be from an unknown polybag or GWP set

We would‘ve heard about it if that was the case because they wouldn‘t be exclusives and thus retailers would have known about them  Besides, the only year so far to get an additional wave was 2019, presumably to make up for the lack of a CMF series and a D2C

I figured

The year isn’t over and it’s still possible for us to get a proper HP GWP.

I’m not very familiar with how LEGO has done this in the past. Can someone with more info weigh in here? Has LEGO ever done three GWPs for one licensed theme in one season? It seems unlikely to me that we would be getting the Hagrid / Buckbeak GWP, the Owl Delivery GWP, and another yet-to-be-revealed GWP with an exclusive minifig. Is there any precedent for this? Do we have any more info about the HP-4 code that was revealed with the $30 price associated with it? Where did that info come from? I really hope this little Harry in his Muggle clothes minifig is from a new surprise set... For $30 I can see us getting a Leaky Cauldron facade with a little moving brick wall. Maybe not a proper interior though.

Star Wars had four GWP sets last year: Mini Droid commander, classic obi wan, Battle of Hoth and Battle of Endor

I was under the impression that HP-4 was a 2021 set. Is it not?

Wait what was the additional 2019 wave?

We just know that it exists and that it will cost $29.99, info came from Ninjawhip

Okay awesome - thanks. And Ninjawhip is one of the most reliable leakers right? Any thoughts on what it could possibly be?

Yes he is. I've got some guesses on what it could be but they're all kinda useless considering it can be literally anything that could fit that pricepoint

Okay cool. So there is a precedent for 3+ licensed GWPs in a season. My understanding is that HP-4 is a 2020 set. No clue what it could be though or if it’s where the lost Harry minifig is from.
