Modal Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Yea I will say the Ninjago set feels more “alive” but they also aren’t working with the restrictions that comes with accurate Harry Potter sets. This set is pretty damn amazing, and it bums me out a bit that there’s so much criticism :( I hope the average consumer loves it!

He's absolutely going in a ziplock with all of the other extra, unwanted Harry variants straight away. Many were on the fence because they wanted to see where the Harry figure ended up. If it was in a GWP then they would've waited for that. Now that it is included with the set more people will be tempted to order it immediately.

Ninjago is LEGO's own property so the designers for that set don't have to deal with all the extra restrictions a license brings. That's also one of the reasons why licensed sets are generally more expensive than unlicensed sets

But that's one of the greatest sets of all time, if not THE greatest set of all time. That's a pretty high bar to live up to. Regardless, I still think it looks very lively, especially when connecting the streets together and placing the minifigures in between. Doesn’t look like one from DA How about I admit to being a bit wrong? ? The connectors were there to give people options so I never said they couldn’t be placed back to back. I was wrong about it appearing back to back in the promo shots though. 100% stand by my main points that I don’t understand why anyone would want to and it looks awful. Anyway the set looks even better in the official release and I can’t wait to build and display it (not back to back obviously!!!) Edit: stupid fat fingers, quotes the wrong post. Salix Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 I can't wait to order this set in 5 hours and 18 minutes. =D
Metanoios Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 (edited) On other news for random wizard minifigs to populate the alley: there will soon be new useful printed pieces and recolours available at the BAM Minifig station in Lego stores. The wizard hat with hair (same as the DP photographer) recoloured as a dark green/black (picture quality isn`t the best) hat with dbg hair and a dark-wizard-style black torso print with a matching unprinted black skirt (the newer version that the CMF Dumbledores and Sprout use). Looks like it will be part of the Lego store exclusive Halloween minifig pieces this year Edited August 31, 2020 by Metanoios91

While I'm stuck in the Eastern USA time zone, (which saves my wallet undue harm for another 11 hours or so), I like the fact that I can select the Australian zone of the Lego website, and get a preview of what I can expect to find on the US website at midnight tonight! (While things do leak, I can only imagine that there must be a team dealing with the website logistics of a 24 time zone roll-out.) Enjoying the ride, regardless of the bumps or potholes!

sebastian666 Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 I called the LEGO store in NYC’s Flatiron District and the guy I spoke to said they are getting an extra shipment of sets overnighted for tomorrow morning to deal with the demand. He said the phone has been ringing off the hook all day with calls about the Diagon Alley set. He recommended trying to get it online first before going into a physical location and said the sets should be available at 3am US East Coast time or 8am ET at the latest.

Because the lastest I've heard was that LEGO prices sets according to what they feel they can get for them and that is the real reason licensed sets are more expensive.

LEGO (just like any other company) has to pay to use certain licenses, which then gets calculated into the final price of the sets

Well I'm not claiming this is bad because it's not Ninjago City. It's not and most sets aren't. I just feel a set like this should excel at something. Looks amazing but the price is not ideal or looks ok but is surprisingly cheap are just some of the valid combinations in this regard. "Looks ok but the price is not ideal" is therefore mildly disappointing.

There's no issue with doing this right? Like will cancelling it be simple if you do end up getting it in store?

Bowtruckle44 Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Thanks all, i wasn't sure if releases were timezone based, or if it all launched at the same time. I haven't really been involved with a release like this, so I wasn't sure

I'd rather get it tomorrow than wait for it to ship, but I also don't want it to sell out online if I don't get it in store. First world problem, I know, lol.
