Wow! These sound awesome... though they do make me wonder if I should rethink which of the current sets I should get this week. The set with Sandy and Mo would technically eliminate any of the exclusive figs from the Monkie Kid HQ set... though that set is really cool and I would like to get it, that might drop it down on my priority list from being an early purchase. The others don't have as big an impact—the Foundry might could replace Red Son's Inferno Truck on my wishlist if it happened to include the plainclothes version of Mei, but chances are it doesn't, and while it would offer an alternative way to get Princess Iron Fan there's no way I'd miss out on the Demon Bull King set (which along with the Monkey King mech are at the top of my wish list). Like the ship, I might still get it if it's impressive enough, but I'm prioritizing the sets that get me the figs I want as well as the ones that wow me the most.

A BrickHeadz figure sounds great too, and I'm glad they're still doing those (though it's sad that it seems to be just the one).

Also, did anybody see on Instagram the picture of a basic brick set tied to this theme? It seems to be a set sort of like the Queen Watevra box from The Lego Movie 2, with printed bricks of the Monkey King's face that you can use to build various transformations for him. It's not really the ideal way I would have liked to see those done—they're a little crude and blocky—but it does have its own sort of cuteness and charm despite that.

Yeah, I just found that too, but to me it looks like a GWP, it's really just a handful of pieces, maybe another poly bag even.

I'm really looking forward to Sandy's speedboat, since I was thinking of getting the iron bull tank just for him, but this sounds much more interesting. I also want to see the foundry, I've always had a soft spot for the massive base vehicles, but couldn't afford the $170 HQ. I'm also glad that we're getting more, especially with better villian variety, only 2 bull clones in the whole wave!

I wonder when these release... not too far in the future, because else they wouldn't be posted, but September sets are already up with images, so maybe October? Or with that extra minecraft set in December?

A Foundry does sound interesting for sure, if it's a mostly location based set I'm very interested.

Sounds like a fold-out playset that can be on wheels but still won't judge before pics.

The new sets sound good, I hope they come with more city buildings. Lyichir you can buy Mei in plain clothes on bricks and pieces its cheaper than buying Red Son's Inferno Truck .

I’m excited for these new sets. They sound much more interesting than most of what’s on offer currently. Also, it occurs to me that now it’s possible to get the entire main cast just by getting the Flaming Foundry, which has Mei, Iron Fan, Red Son and Bull Demon King, and Sandy’s Speedboat, which also has Sandy, Pigsy and Mo. (And Uncle Zheng and the the Spider Queen, who might not be main characters since they’re each only in one set but definitely couldn’t hurt.)
Here’s hoping LEGO learned their lesson about the prices for these ones. Because now that we know about these I’ve essentially lost interest in all the Wave 1 sets except Pigsy’s Food Truck.

I’m excited to see these sets. I hope the Speedboat is good & not stupidly overpriced as I want both Sandy & Mo, but the boat they currently come in may be out of my reach.

I really hope those new sets aren’t as overpriced as wave 1. If they are, I might just end up buying the Monkey King Brickheadz, since that shouldn’t be more expensive than 10$.

Is the Flaming Foundry gonna be a Location-based set or a very large vehicle?

As far as I can tell from the description, it’s going to be somewhat similar to the Ninja DBX from 2015 Ninjago; a large truck with a mobile command centre that can be detached and unfolds into a villain base. I’m very interested to see how it works.

I suppose that is always an option! But the minifigures are just one factor... I do sort of love the little panda convenience store too, especially since it can attach to the buildings in the Monkey King mech. I'll just have to decide on that later. For now my first priorities for the sets I want to get are the Monkey King mech and Demon Bull King. Maybe the Cloud Jet as well (I saw a post where somebody managed to turn the cloud jet into a jetpack for the Monkey King Mech and I really want to have both of them in hand so I can try that for myself). Gonna be making a Lego store trip today to pick those up as the start to my collection of this theme. Maybe after that I'll be able to decide how many of the other sets I really need and how many I can be satisfied passing on.

That sounds like a super cool set! I'm curious to see how they do the brick-built Demon Bull King.

So...

I found a post on Instagram that says these are for this month? And it's not just some random account, it's from an actual leaker, but I'm not too sure about it. Then again, we've already had this happen before (remember the price discussion?) so I don't want to immediately dismiss this, but it just doesn't seem right? It could also just be an assumption on his part, but I don't know...

You can’t hold that against this theme though, that’s a pretty normal template. Bad guys have henchmen that are identical. Ninjago(Movie as well) did this, LEGO Movie did this, Marvel has done it & is doing it. A lot of other action themes too.

The pricing on some is definitely weird. It’d be nice the hear a reason.

I complete agree with your final sentiment...MK is a fantastic minifig & right up there with Wave 2 Jack. I actually have them on my build table together.

That’s awesome. Once I get the Warrior King Mech, I guess I’ll have to have him claim the Cloud as his own...

Reading about all those clips for accessories makes me sad...so far the only set I have is the Cloud Jet(great set), and there’s no place for his staff to go when he’s piloting the ship.

Actually for most waves Ninjago has been very clever in putting some diferentiation in the henchmen and minions. There is a perception of ranking. The Snake waves show it best where each snake clan had the Leader with snake legs. The 2nd with Leader head but human legs. The upper minion with the clan style head and normal legs and the low man clan type head with short legs. You see a similar pattern in the Stone Army. And to lesser degrees in most other waves. The only ones that went full generic bad guys were this last waves Red Visors group. For Monkey Kid they gave each Bull a name. Some minor difference, be it horn color or arm color would have greatly helped.

Don’t forget, Richie and Hausner. There were too many duplicates of the same figures in the Prime Empire wave, but technically Richie and Hausner were distinct, individual characters. (Even though they were just two representatives of a much larger faction . .) And there were exactly four Red Visors across the whole wave, which honestly disappointed me a little. They look great and I wouldn’t have minded getting more. Plus Sushimi was badass.

Honestly I think the Master of the Mountain wave’s a lot worse about the ‘identical bad guys’ thing. There’s exactly four different minifigure designs (and I don’t count the goblin and troll variants where they just slapped a hood on or removed the shoulder armour because there’s no difference in the prints) that are repeated a lot, and that’s including the Skull Sorceror himself. Plus, the ‘Awakened Warriors’ only have one print on their whole bodies so really there’s only three minifigure villain designs across this whole wave. It’s not a good precedent to set.

Monkie Kid recycling the Bull Demon grunts is annoying, but they have the unique designs for Princess Iron Fan and Red Son, and they actually do have different-coloured arms and a cape for General . . Iron something? I forget . . plus apparently there’s three more sets that’ll include the Spider Queen, Goldhorn and Silverhorn (probably have those wrong, sorry) so those will probably be unique and interesting. It certainly could be worse.

Also, on the topic of the Serpentine, that was definitely a high point for the theme; they came up with no less than seventeen minifigure designs that each consisted of three or four prints, as well as eight new moulds, just for the Serpentine. I wish we still got that level of detail . .

I hope he's right, since those new sets appear to act as a supplementary wave to the first one instead a proper second wave.

No way those are for this month.

It would be too much at once

Exactly,  and it would also be strange to not even know these exist, let alone see them, by now, since it seems that even September releases have official pictures up.

For some more context, the posts are from detective_azani, and the pictures are the same ones we've been seeing of the shop at home description, but then the caption says "Coming to LEGO brand stores and Shop@Home in July of 2020!"

So... When is this "supplementary" wave of Moneky Kid supposed to come out? September? December? I doubt the entire second wave will consist of only three sets, since this is supposed to be a Big Bang theme.

We don't know yet when those sets come out even though a leaker claims they come out this month, guess we'll have to wait and see if he's right.

I think this is like how the Lego Movie 2 had 2 summer waves, (one in april and another in august)  so my guess would be soon, maybe when the other episodes of the show start airing, since the first wave was just the pilot episode.

I also noticed, looking back, that the Malaysian shop@home page doesn't have any prices on it (I guess they can't ship to Malaysia?) So maybe the lack of pictures is a mistake? It could also be that July is the release date for Asia and that they'll be released later here, that would make some sense.

Posted (edited)

In 2019 City had a September set appear out of nothing until close to reveal last year with the Ski Resort, and now there's still a rumored City Square type set as well, probably September 2020 as well, while we also already know 3 more City smaller sets are August releases.

Even the City Airport and Divers sets were set as seperate June and July releases in some countries catalogs and not being 1 big wave.

So sets don't always come in strict waves.

The first wave released worldwide simultaneously,so I highly doubt that Lego will change it's approach.Especially since this a Lego store exclusive theme.

True, that was years into the theme. I was thinking more first year runs. Ninjago had two variations of skeletons(three if you include the slightly different head mold of Samukai). Of the minion ones, they had four named characters, each with a couple variants. The Snake waves were the best as far as enemies go.

But yeah, having the exact same bull seven times over is a bit lackluster, but I’m  hopeful we’ll see more henchmen variation to come in future waves.
