I’d already decided against getting either of those sets but now I really want to just so that I can recreate this! Quick suggestion; have you considered trying to order a second sticker sheet for the Jet from LEGO so that you can apply the stickers on the engine cowling and fins to the underside as well so it doesn’t look so plain? Next get two of the Cloud Roadster and turn them into rollerskates for the mech! I hadn't considered that. I suppose it'd be possible, but I'm not too bothered by the plain undersides. Also, lol at the Cloud Roadster idea. That might be a little TOO over the top even for me. The jet on its own works well enough—it can even fit the bike on the jet where it normally mounts, though it's a little silly-looking and I prefer not to push the weight limit of the joints more than I have to. As it is I just had to put the jet and mech back together after my sister accidentally knocked it over with the jet on its back, so I'm opting to no longer have them attached together when I'm not on hand to fix it if any of the joints should give out or it gets knocked over again.
July 13, 20204 yr Do we know the release date for the three new sets? I’m curious about Australian prices.

July 16, 20204 yr Well now the sets are listed at shop@home in the U.S. https://www.lego.com/en-us/themes/monkie-kid The release date is listed as September, not August. Also, the speedboat is indeed $60. Yay.

As much as I love vehicles, it's must be the better selling/more popular thing for cheaper sets. I try to buy large lots/ small-medium collections but the "problem*" I find is I start to have excessive numbers of vehicles, especially duplicates. *But is too much LEGO really a "problem?" Why is LEGO so obsessed with having vehicles only in their current original themes? Are location-based sets just not selling well or something? My feeling as well. And I certainly wouldn't mind a decrepit haunted church set for HD, even though I know that Lego will never make such a set. 1. That would be fantastic. 2. Never say never. (Ack! I just said it twice! lololol) 3. Not a church, but what about a decrepit haunted mausoleum/chapel/hall etc? What is a church once stripped of religious affiliations (symbols, crosses etc) Basically an older style building, with a large hall, that could but doesn't need to be Gothic or medieval styled, and could still have some stained glass windows. Look at the Harry Potter buildings, add some symbols etc and it would be a church.

Why is LEGO so obsessed with having vehicles only in their current original themes? Are location-based sets just not selling well or something? LEGO has always been for a large part about vehicles. Parents love to give their kid, or that of someone else, a vehicle because anything that can be rolled or flown around can be played with. I do think that since I was young (Adventurers era) there has been a shift towards more vehicles and less buildings. Maybe in a present where LEGO faces a lot of competition from video games, with their dynamic and immersive open-world play environments, a LEGO building appears even more static than it used to. Not to mention, for the money of a typical medium to larger sized LEGO building, you can buy almost any game with a world map so huge that you wouldn't be able to recreate it in minifig scale even with a 10,000 dollar/euro budget! Kind of a discouraging thought, really. That said.. I am the grown up boy that still dreams of building a huuuge city (medieval or otherwise), the kid that always wanted to build buildings and landscapes but had to make due with the vehicles that he was given. TL;DR yes, more buildings please! Reveal hidden contents p.s. How come I always get philosophical once I start writing?
July 27, 20204 yr Tried some Monkie Kid minifigures in the Ninjago Temple of Resurrection. With the stone and foliage parts I think it could be modified to represent the Monkey King's home on Flower Fruit Mountain
July 27, 20204 yr The whole reason I bought the Temple of Resurrection in 2018 was because I'd just finished reading the unabridged Journey to the West in translation and the set reminded me not only of Stone Monkey King's cave paradise on the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit but also, really, of all the other demon cave strongholds and hidden monasteries the travelers encounter throughout the 100 chapters. There are so many! I'm not a minifig collector, so I don't feel the need to get any Monkie Kid figures to go with the Monkey temple that is that set. Thanks for posting!
July 27, 20204 yr So we have official AUS prices for the three new sets and it’s bad . . $80 for Sandy’s boat, $100 for the Could Roadster and $230 for the Foundry . . I mean come on LEGO I can’t afford $230 for a set with less than 1500 pieces . .

But still my opinion on those sets is tough, since it remains exclusive , with 0% discounts. Edited July 28, 20204 yr by TeriXeri
July 28, 20204 yr This is only sort of tangentially related to the sets, but apparently Flying Bark Studios, the animation studio behind the Monkie Kid TV series, has been contracted for two additional seasons of the show (presumably on top of the "pilot" that has already aired). Bodes well for the theme performing well at launch and sticking around for at least another year.

Hopefully we get some smaller sets as a result, maybe an easier way to get some of the great villain figures.

Hard to say...
July 30, 20204 yr What I don't understand is how 80014 is more expensive when it has 394 pieces compeared to 80007 which has 430 pieces and both of them have a big fig in them.
July 31, 20204 yr Woah, The Flaming Foundry (80016) looks impressive. I can see the Nexo/Ninjago/Monkie Kid design through the generations. Looks like a good mix of minifigs, I would probably pull the the "dump truck" out of the build and then transform/expand the rest of the build into something a bit more elaborate.

The difference in the part count between the two is not huge and 80014 does seem like it could be feasibly be bigger than 80007—the two vehicles seem roughly comparable in size but 80007 has the additional cave entrance, Spider Queen, and jet board. Hard to directly compare with one of the sets not yet being released. I know that for me, personally, 80014 is a lot more attractive to me due to the increased variety of figs including one exclusive figure and two figures (Mo the cat and Pigsy in his chef attire) that are only available in one other set each. I'm planning to get 80014 mainly for the Spider Queen but it'll also allow me to skip the food truck set entirely (and if I were concerned about figs alone I could even skip the $180 HQ ship as well, though I think I like that ship too much on its own merits to skip). Conversely, there's not really any exclusive features of 80007—I'd easily have considered it one of the first wave sets that was easiest to pass on even before this second wave was revealed. August 1, 20204 yr If anyones interested, the Spider Queen and the Gold and Silver Horned Demons are available in bricks and pieces.
August 2, 20204 yr So with the new sets' instructions on Lego.com, there's some neat features that may not have been immediately obvious before. One of the biggest surprises for me was the fact that the big front wheels on the dump truck in the foundry actually rotate OPPOSITE of the direction it's driving. Instead of rolling along the ground they're actually geared to a drive wheel underneath the truck. This also means that when the wheels are linked up to the main foundry build both sets of wheels rotate inwards toward the foundry as it drives. EDIT: Realized that I wasn't understanding the gearing properly, the wheels rotate normally. Also, the Cloud Roadster (which is an amazing build, wow) has the main engine block built as one removable component. I built it on Stud.io according to the instructions and I'm really impressed by the shape of it from various angles. My sister also helped me add the stickers from the new sets to the document where I'm translating all the Chinese text. Most of the text in these new sets is duplicated from some of the others, except for some warning signs on the foundry that read "forbidden". Edited August 2, 20204 yr by Lyichir
August 2, 20204 yr I wonder if Monkey Kid will get different outfits in future waves.Or will he suffer the same fate as Jack and Parker and get stuck with two outfits?
