I bid you good luck with it then! Sounds much like a combo of X-men and Heroes (compliment btw  ).

Thank you. And that's actually what I was going for. Heroes is great, but there's just not enough action, so I've tried to remedy that.

The other problem I had with Heroes is that it just wasn't global enough. There were characters from places other than America, but I just didn't feel there were enough. It is an American show though, so I suppose that's to be expected. Anyway, I've tried to get in as many different nationalities/cultures as possible. The goodies are based in the US, yes, but the search will take place around the world. My three main characters are actually British.

I'm trying to get as wide a demographic as possible with the characters. There are characters from different countries, like I said, but there also are characters of different ages, different sexualities, etc. There are lots of different relationships in there as well- married couples, non-married couples, brother/sister (including twins), mentor and/or peers, friends, parent/child, etc.

The variety of people is (be sheer coincidence; seriously, I didn't notice this) mirrored by the fact that I'm trying not to write any characters with the same power. Unless it's a secondary power, stemming from the primary power that is.

If I ever wrote a story it'd be less in line with heroes (surprise!) and more with darker "real world" or fantasy world stories. I love writing dark stories, not as in killing or gore or sex or anything, but just bleak and pessimistic in tone

Ooh... dark :skull:

If you ever get that issue finished would you please scan it on here?

I'm not really an artist by nature, more of a writer, so the art (unfortunately, as I'd love to see it) takes the back burner for now. But the finished script and some sketches may find their way here...

So basically she's a hot girl who streams constant puns and off topicness to here enemies, killing them?

Welll... you'd be surprised.

I have tried to write her with some puns and some sarcasm, partly because it's good characterisation, but partly because I need something to lighten the mood. If you strip the story down to basics, then it's a guy killing people because they're differnt. Throw in some power theft (well, sort of) and a few abductions/assassinations courtesy of Department M, and it's pretty dark. Cue Sam, and a few lighter interlude stories.

And I have to admit, from my character sketches, I do rather fancy her  . Now that's egotistical  .

EDIT: Wait a minute... did you just call me hot? Ooh, you flirt.

Are you buying all the sets? If you do, you get two of her!

I think so yes. I'll have to see about recycling the hair. I might prefer to have them both on display

On Leather Wings

Yeah... I noticed that after posting.

The quality is better in other episodes though, that one starts with some screen fuzz correct?

A little. But it doesn't really matter, I just put it down to it being the first episode.

As for others to watch, let me warn you, being the first season some are just plain awful. Try to watch the worst ones first I say, so here they are:

What? Watch them out of order? I couldn't cope with that. No really, I couldn't.

That's definitely an improvement then, having more diverse characters is always a plus, action, more so

Just be sure to give them their own personalities, there's nothing worse than reading a story where the character continually acts out of character. Oh, and three main are British, naturally!

Any Aussies there? :look:

Ooh... dark :skull:

I meant of the story, like hi-res ones or something, so I might be able to read a small portion

Well... you'd be surprised.

It'd be darn creepy if you were sarcastic in real life, my teacher often calls me a "cynical sarcastic little man!"

That said, fancying your own self in female form is not only egotistical, but downright wrong, what happened to opposites attract?

I hope you imply that I "flirt" and not with you!

*waggles finger at BB1* Now now, you know that Bat display comes first.

A little. But it doesn't really matter, I just put it down to it being the first episode.

It atleast means that the whole thing is hand drawn, I love that style, painted backgrounds and hand animated

What? Watch them out of order? I couldn't cope with that. No really, I couldn't.

Point, good point, have you watched anymore?

Indeed. That said though, I've got characters who two issues in haven't actually said a word!

Any Aussies there? :look:

Um... not yet. But there is a Department M embassy in Australasia somewhere, so it's highly likely I'll write in at least one.

My specialty!

Yes, I'd noticed.

Oh, so you did mean the script. Well in that case, sure. I write a script form draft by hand first, then get it edited and assessed, then type up the second draft and convert it to panels.

So I'd be happy to post each broken-down issue.

It'd be darn creepy if you were sarcastic in real life, my teacher often calls me a "cynical sarcastic little man!"

Well... yes, I am. I'm known for my dry sense of humour. It's a mix of intentionally bad jokes and puns, and dry put-downs. Trouble is, it treads a fine line between funny and cruel.

That said, fancying your own self in female form is not only egotistical, but downright wrong, what happened to opposites attract?

Yeah... that's what my friend said!

Now THIS I missed! :oh3:

 Glad to be of service.

Sadly no, I've just not had time. Although how I've not been able to make time to watch something 20 minutes long I don't know.

Fair enough....er....I guess.....

Seriously, you have to add an Aussie, and not just a stereotypical one either!

Ah, good. I'd hoped you weren't a clone of me, I use fully cruel sarcastic humour and only occasional bad puns, it's funny AND cruel :skull:

Yeah... that's what my friend said!

she's right.

 Glad to be of service.

Oh dear, you're never gonna let me forget this are you?

You know, a lot of the cast share names (and in some cases appearances) with people I know. I'm useless at thinking up names, so I thought "why not just take actual names and sort of mash them together?"

Seriously, you have to add an Aussie, and not just a stereotypical one either!

So neither Bruce nor Sheila?

How about Mel Bourne?

Names are some of the hardest original things to come up with I find.

So neither Bruce nor Sheila?

Oh dear......maybe I should start stereotyping you brits, you know, bad teeth, no hot women

Sure. The more the better.

Nice.

There we go, good boy *pats head*

I just realised we managed to steer a topic designed for off topicness, off topic!

I will try to steer it back on with the following statements and questions:

How is that Arkham project of yours going?

What about Bat Goody Bag 4?

Anything else?

My mum is picking up Knightfall: Part 2 - Who Rules the Night today, it finally arrived. Do you have that one?

Another thing too, Batimpulses part 2 is almost done, I used the crystal skulls and Indy gold idol in one.

Oh, and a bit of shameless advertising:

See and comment on KDog's comic (link in sig)

And see and comment on Batbrick's latest Castle Batvig in the H&A forum!

There we go, "Captain! Iceberg avoided!"

Um... yeah. Seems to be our superpower

How is that Arkham project of yours going?

I'll be honest... it's not changed at all since you last saw it. But I've got next week off for half term, so I'm hoping to work on it then.

What about Bat Goody Bag 4?

I'll probably hold it back until I've MODed the new sets (I have to buy them first though!), just so I've got a number of things to show. Athough I do have four things already.

Anything else?

Watched Christmas With the Joker last night. I assume the episode was a Christmas one, and taken in that context it wasn't bad. Joker's great as ever, and some of the Batman/Robin lines are strangely reminiscent of lines from the 60s series...

I hadn't realised Robin was in though. I thought he didn't show up till later.

My mum is picking up Knightfall: Part 2 - Who Rules the Night today, it finally arrived. Do you have that one?

No, I'm sorely lacking in Batman trades. Well, I'm lacking in trades altogether. And I'll be honest, I've never read Knightfall. I would, obviously, but I've never been able to find it in the library.

Another thing too, Batimpulses part 2 is almost done, I used the crystal skulls and Indy gold idol in one.

Ah good, I look forward to it. The last ones were great.

And see and comment on Batbrick's latest Castle Batvig in the H&A forum!

Oh, I get a break after next week too, for two weeks, I hope to do some stuff then as well.

Yes, I always liked that one. I read an interview about the christmas special, appropriately centered around a 60's/50's feel.

I hadn't realised Robin was in though. I thought he didn't show up till later.

No, he's in there form the start, the show debuts pretty far into Batman's career. Nightwing debuts in season 4, and Batgirl in Season 3.

Blasphemy! How can you make a vig of the back breaking scene if you do not know its utter significance? I demand you buy atleast part 1 now!

The art is okay, but the story is classic, a true Batman story. Hmm, seems for such a Batgeek, I've read more of the biggies than you have!

Ah good, I look forward to it. The last ones were great.

Thanks. I love making them a lot because they are small and you have to try and jam as many cool pieces into them as you can. For instance, Catwoman is stealing a couple of crystal skulls and a golden fertility idol in one.

Oh... I'd forgotten about that. I saw it, then forgot to post a comment. I shall head over now.

Thanks a heap for that mate, always appreciated. In turn I forgive you for not reading Knightfall. Now if you'll excuse me, mum just came in with my arrived Knightfall part 2!

I'll be off to comment on them shortly.

Watched a heap of BTAS episodes over the past few days. Watched Nothing to Fear and The Last Laugh one day, then Pretty Poison, The Underdwellers and P.O.V. the day after.

Nothing to Fear was good, especially because of the Scarecrow. That glider/blimp ensemble- I want one! Pure Scarecrow, fantastic.

The Last Laugh was really, really good. Seriously, I enjoyed every minute. I actually laughed aloud at some of Joker's lines. So, yeah, the plot wasn't anything special, but Joker... brilliant.

Pretty Poison... well, it's Ivy. What more can I say?

The Underdwellers... less good.

P.O.V. was different, and I quite like that. The 'Batman tackles petty crooks' idea was a nice change of pace as well.

Yeah, I love Nothing to Fear for the blimp sequence and ending at the grave, and the part where he scares the Scarecrow ala Batman Begins, pretty badass

The Last Laugh is pretty hilarious, I love the music for that ep.

Pretty Poison I really liked, also because it showed Harvey Dent pre scarring.

Underdwellers...er...

P.O.V is nice, but I felt they could've done much more with that (dirty cop anyonE?)

Yes of course, the grave. Such a poignant moment :cry_sad: . And the chiropteraphobia bit is such an integral part of Scarecrow now, but still nice to see.

The Last Laugh is pretty hilarious, I love the music for that ep.

Indeed, the music. Especially the Joker theme.

Ah yes, Mr Dent. I suppose it made sense to include him pre-scarring. Otherwise it'd just sort of happen, and no-one would be really that bothered. You give him a backstory first, it has more impact.

P.O.V is nice, but I felt they could've done much more with that (dirty cop anyonE?)

Perhaps, but they made the effort to do something different at least.

Yes, he was also in On Leather Wings, he gets scarred on disc 2 on ep 10. (In a TWO parter in the first TWO eps with DOUBLE digits  )

Indeed, the music. Especially the Joker theme.

Yes, that's the one, I love the whole "Batman FINALLY told a joke!" line

Perhaps, but they made the effort to do something different at least.

Good point, I also like how it highlighted Montoya, and Bullock lying.

BTW, my Batfigs are up. Hope that doesn't sound too shameless, just thought you'd be interested.

I also finished Knightfall part 2 the other day, I'll have to order the final part and I'm done. Maybe I should do a sequel to your vig: "Bane is broken"?

No, no, I shall go and have a look.

Thanks for that.

You know what we should do? We should start a Batman (or any) Comics Recommendation list here. I'm currently collecting all the classics but from there I have no idea. What do you think?

I was on a bit of a punning role the other day though. One of the maths teachers from my old school got married recently. My sister was telling us about it... cue the onslaught of maths puns!

Have you watched anymore recently?

Unfortunately no, but I had my last exam today, so no doubt I'll have plenty of time from now on.

You know what we should do?

No, what?

We should start a Batman (or any) Comics Recommendation list here.
You know what we should do?

Yes.

 I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist.

Anyway, I think it's a pretty good idea. I mean, obviously, I can't dictate what gets printed in the CEs, but other comics of course. Plus, the CEs give me a wealth of material to potentially include on the list. I'd suggest we widen the list to any comics, actually, rather than just Batman. It gives for a fuller reading experience.

So... any recommendations?

Good. I'll have to buy the third season soon. And gotham Knight I really want, that comes out not long from now. Sad thing is, I want the indy game too but I doubt I'll be able to afford it, so cue Batman Lego game instead.

No, what?

Yes.

Coming soon, I'm on a laptop right now as my computer is being rebuilt due to a virus, darn thing :hmpf_bad: And I have to go to the dentist. Good news though, I've been given a purist way of making Firefly now if you want it, he looks great!

I'm trying to afford it. I think I might be able to buy it in a couple of weeks...

You could've said "Box, Brain Box" you know, but alas, the moment is gone!

With those sexy new agents sets (c'mon, it's a flipping VOLCANO BASE! It's about TIME!) I think I'll sadly have to pass on it. Are you planning on those Agents sets? I know I really want them both, especially that beautiful volcano base

Can't wait for the Batman game though.

Oh yes, I love that cover. I do hope we get to control more heroes though.

Ooh, I can't wait.

Yes you can

Anyway, as for recommendations, I know you haven't read Knightfall, so I'm going to put than on the list. Have you read Tales of the Demon? That's a good one.

So here is the enormous list so far:

Knightfall trilogy

Tales of the Demon

Child of Dreams

I have not read that last one but I've eard good things of it so I'm putting it ther to remind me.

If I can afford them, yes, I should think so. They're both very cool... in that Agents way.

Knightfall trilogy

Well of course, I'll have to read it sometime won't I? And I have no doubt I'll get round to it. Eventually.

Tales of the Demon

As a collection, no, I haven't read it. But I think I may have read a lot of the stories separately, in the first volume of Batman Legends, the CE I get. Good stories, all of them.

Child of Dreams

Yes, I think I've heard good things as well. It shifts Bats to Hong Kong doesn't it?

I tell you what you should read, and it's not Batman, but Justice. 12 oversized issues, split into 3 hardcover volumes. It's been printed in my CEs over here, and it's really very good. It's almost a modern extension of the Silver Age, with many characters still in their SA incarnations (Barry Allen, Barbara Gordon as Batgirl, the original Teen Titans, etc.). Plus, the combined Doug Braithwaite/Alex Ross art is superb (as usual).

Oh, well, I did consider that, but decided it didn't sound quite right.

Well, I'm done with Connery films for now, having watched Diamonds are Forever. There can be no doubt he was the best 007, now to Roger Moore *sigh*

If I can afford them, yes, I should think so. They're both very cool... in that Agents way.

Going back to Bond ( ), the base is so much like Blofeld's volcano base, I really want the line to continue so we can get a mountain top building with evil laboratory ala OHMSS.

Well of course, I'll have to read it sometime won't I? And I have no doubt I'll get round to it. Eventually.

Naturally, preferably sooner than later, you really are missing out. The first part is my favourite, though the unique showdown with Azbats at the end of part 3 is a highlight.

It is a very nice book. All are good stories, and though not all are the best, they really cover almost all aspects of his character and Batman's obsession with bringing him down.

Yes, I think I've heard good things as well. It shifts Bats to Hong Kong doesn't it?

I believe it does, and is drawn in a partial manga/anime style I believe (I confess to not knowing the difference between the two  ).

Sounds very interesting, especially the art, can you give me a brief spoiler absent summary and place in continuity please?

Also, have you read Strange Apparitions? It really is a story I long to read, the Neal Adams and Steve Englehart era was fantastic, a lot of my favourite art was during that time, and the stories were dark, yet didn't find the need to be overly violent and gory like the modern ones do :hmpf_bad: I don't know about you but I dislike how overly dark Batman has become, what do you think?

I believe Braithwaite pencilled, then Ross went over with paints. The best of two fantastically real styles combined.

Justice is out of continuity, but it could be viewed as a modern extrapolation of the Silver Age. Lex Luthor and Brainiac assemble the Legion of Doom to save the world, doing more good than even the Justice League. Have the villains really turned over a new leaf, or is ther a deeper plan at work?

The plot twists and turns, and there are nice rosters for both the League and the Legion. The Legion counts Bat-foes Ivy, Scarecrow and Riddler among its number (Joker appears a bit as well, but they won't let him in). The Teen Titans, Doom Patrol, Metal Men, Bat-family, Marvel family and Superman-family also appear.

Um... no.

But I think I have read some stories from that era. I'll have to go back through my old CEs, see what I have.

I don't know about you but I dislike how overly dark Batman has become, what do you think?

No, I'm liking the current run. I do generally prefer anything post-late-90s though. He's certainly lightened up following his year-long sojourn abroad. At least until he met the Three Ghosts of Batman that is...

On a sidenote, would you mind checking out the link in my sig and comenting on my friend's MOCs? I'd appreciate it, and so would he. Thanks.

Thanks, sounds awesome, is it? I love the concept, I might look into it after getting a few more necessary early Batman year novels.

Um... no.

But I think I have read some stories from that era. I'll have to go back through my old CEs, see what I have.

Only some from that era? SOME? DIE! DIE! DIE! :skull:

Just kidding of course, but i do recommend a further look into that era, it is considered by myself and many others as the pinnacle of Batman comicdom. Plus, some of the best Joker stories ever are there: Sign of the Joker, The Laughing Fish, Strange Apparitions, Five Way Revenge and so forth, I would recommend all those deifintely. Maybe pick up the Greatest Joker Stories ever told book, it includes most of these :classic:

I can respect that, I just find the stories becoming increasingly uninspired and over reliant on gore and murder. For instance, the No Man's Land arc boiled down to a cliche "Joker kills someone close to Bats and/or Gordon, will they give in to murder?" event, and I'm getting sick of the overly depressing stories and blood crazed villains. Seriously, since when did Mr.J enjoy blood that much anyway? Far as I know it was the punchline he loved, not arterial sprays. I guess it is interesting this way though, us at opposite ends of the spectrum, me loving the classics, you loving the modern, and there is nothing wrong with that. You understand what i mean though don't you?

Oh, I'm very sorry, I completely forgot about that, tell your friend i'm sorry for taking so long

And I loved that goggle design too, very neat.

So what do you think of Clayface in the new game? I liike ihm, but hope he has some morphing abilities.

And please tell me you've watched some BTAS? Please? :cry_sad::laugh:

It is very good. I think it's a story that reads better in one go, all twelve issues. Reading it separately, I had to go back and read the previous parts again before reading the last one, just to make sure there wasn't anything I'd missed. There are quite a few twists, as new developments come to light. Then there are the 'why do we need superheroes' undertones, and the look at whether they really do enough.

Plus, issue 2 is almost entirely Bat-centric. Watch out for that Batmobile.

Ah, I have read Joker's Five Way Revenge, and I did enjoy it. I might have to look out for Greatest Stories, especially if it's the Joker. I bet one of my libraries will have it.

Indeed.

I find the art easier to access now as well. Sure, the art was good in the classics, but now... I don't know, I just prefer it.

And I guess the 'blood and gore' is more a reflection of todays atmosphere and social climate than anything else. Readers demand some 'gritty realism' and seriousness, so that's what we get. Plus, it highlights that Batman is the dark side of the DCU, as the other books (Superman, Wonder Woman, Justice League, etc.) dont't feature anywhere near the level of blood and gore as frequently as Batman. I find it a nice balance.

So what do you think of Clayface in the new game? I liike ihm, but hope he has some morphing abilities.

He looks good, that's for sure. I'm sure we'll see some morphing in the cinematics, if not in the gameplay itself. I mean, it is Clayface afterall. Why bother if you're not going to do him properly?

Cool, thanks for that again. I'll look into it definitely when I have the time or cash, and have collected Batman's early years.

I'm planning to order it soon, great stuff. The Killing Joke is in there too along with "The Great Joker/Clayface feud"

Fair enough, but I find it overzealous. Look at TLH and Y1, they had a bit of blood and darkness but only when it was necessary, I find that hack writers nowadays just include gore to emphasise "Teh Darknes!!11!!1!". Also, how are kids supposed to read the actual source now if it is like this? I know Lee Bermejo's new Joker issues has arterial sprays all over a wall. Don't get me wrong gore is good when the story or atmosphere demands it, but Batman is still a superhero and thus I miss the old days of actual superheroics. Now we just see characters gunned down horrifically to heighten the tension, I mean, can atleast some writers make a good story without taking a few pages from Saw and Hostel? :sceptic:

Point, if nothing in the game then hopefully the cutscenes, but a news article doesn't mean all.

C'MON!

Anyhoo, OH. MY. COD:

Plus, the paperbacks are coming out soon, so if money is a problem... yeah, I'd rather have hardcovers as well.

along with "The Great Joker/Clayface feud"

Sounds... yeah.

Perhaps. But you have to admit, we've got some of the best writers working in comics now that we've ever had.

Oh, now you're just fishing for compliments. Why don't you just go about some product plaicement while you're at it.

That's a pretty nice clip. It shows loads, without anything actually being seen. The guys face when he sees Dent... says it all.
