Plus, the paperbacks are coming out soon, so if money is a problem... yeah, I'd rather have hardcovers as well.

Good point. I'm rather upset now because my Nightfall part 3 has yet to arrive! C'mon, its been forever and I want to order my next one. Speaking of that, which one should I get?

On my list to get I have:

Batman and the Monster Men

Batman and the Mad Monk

The Man Who Laughs

Greatest Joker Stories

Catwoman: When In Rome

Batman: Haunted Knight

Sounds... yeah.

I think it sounds kinda cool, might be a great 60's story. One I really want to read is The Joker's Utility Belt, where he gets sick of Batman's techno asset and constructs his own! Those kind of stories are the Joker's best, insane, unpredictable, homicidal, yet undeniably hilarious.

Perhaps. But you have to admit, we've got some of the best writers working in comics now that we've ever had.

Oh yes indeed! (Though Englehart will always remain a favourite of mine) We also have some of the best art (and also, Neal Adams is another favourite  ). Unfortunately we have some of the worst writers too, Morrison is no good, and Miller's gone mad. I just really want to see an "adventure" story like the Dennis O'Neill days where Batman's darkness didn't mean you couldn't have some great heroics.

Oh, now you're just fishing for compliments. Why don't you just go about some product plaicement while you're at it.

I am NOT fishing for compliments and placing products!!! And while we're talking about fishing, have you tried Shimano

s latest freshwater rod line? The delicate yet precise construction makes for a fishing experience not to be forgotten!

That said, I WAS just sharing news, just like when you posted the TDK poster.

That's a pretty nice clip. It shows loads, without anything actually being seen. The guys face when he sees Dent... says it all.

I agree, the only thing I dislike is how rushed the lcip is, but according to those who saw the thing a year ago at Wizard World, this one is just cut down.

The Man Who Laughs is very good, I enjoyed it when I read it. The trade comes with a bonus story doesn't it, to fill space? I seem to remember it guest stars Alan Scott.

Oh yes, of course. I think I may have come across that.

I don't know, I quite like Morrison. I guess at the very least, his writing surprises just because it can be so weird sometimes. I mean, he's had himself in Animal Man as a guest-star. Plus, he's a Brit, so there's a little bias.

But I agree with you about Miller.

I am NOT fishing for compliments and placing products!!!

Okay, now look again at what you wrote when you posted the link. Then look at what I wrote. Look very carefully, and you should see what I've done...

Oh yes, I've read it, I love how it is an homage to the more serious Joker in his first issues. I don't like how he is drawn at points though, but a wonderful novel all round. Because of that though, I think i'll get another.

I can't stand him but i can respect that you like him, atleast he is inventive though, unlike:

How did I miss that? Ironic that for once your joke was subtler than mine!

Still, i'll have to play dirty to recover from that, after all, I have this!

I'll post a review soon I reckon, would you like to be in it?

And btw, my next Batfigs topic is up.

Sorry about the short reply too, I'm going bowling.

I quite like the art, especially the way Mahnke draws Bats. I quite like his art generally though. In fact, I'm quite a fan of the 'unusual' artists, more so than the 'real' artists. I mean, artists like Jim Lee, Ian Churchill and Doug Braithwaite are brilliant, but I much prefer art with a bit of unique character. People like Tim Sale, Terry Dodson, Joe Benitez and Ed McGuiness.

Oh definitely. Tim Sale is my favourite after all. But then again Bolland is also a favourite and he isn't out there that much, because you need a nice balance. I just didn't like the way The Joker's face was drawn (wrinkly and scarred) in TMWL, but everything else looked wonderful. Jim Lee is great but as seen with Hush he's no Batman drawer. By which I mean, he draws Gotham like you would Metropolis, too bright, too colourful, lacking that Gotham atmosphere.

"It's the goddamn Batman!"

That said I laughed my head off at so many moments in just the first couple of issue alone. Vicky Vale barely clad by bra and g-string for about 6 pages. The "Goddamm Batman" line. Black Canary practically killing everyone in that bar. Robin being told ot eat rats on the same night as his parents murder by Bruce. And then there's later on: Transexual Joker (it was inevitable with the slide following DKR) and Black Canary and Bats keeping the masks on because: "It's better that way":laugh:

Yeah... tell me off, will you? Tsk.

You were out of line, had to be done.

As long as I can get it on with Harley.

And my personal favourite:

That said, I don't get here either sadly, but please enjoy!

Way ahead of you. Already commented.

Thanks a heap, though what's up with everyone and that fedora?

I want you to strike that remark from the record.

I only got one strike over two games ironically so I guess I bowled out

Wow! That's a load of superhotties!

I have to say though sorry, but white evening gown style really doesn't fit Oracle, and I still didn't find wonder Woman attractive. I'm having trouble determining a few of them, I think I've narrowed down Black Canary, is she the one in the longer gown center stage?

But, overall:

Tim Sale is my favourite after all.

Indeed. He seems to be someone you either really like or really don't. I was talking to someone about his work on Heroes a while ago, and she was saying that she wasn't sure about the art, in that it was perhaps too cartoony, not 'real' enough. Well, after I'd explained who Tim Sale was, and impressed her with my "he's colourblind, you know" factoid.

That said I laughed my head off at so many moments in just the first couple of issue alone.

Ah yes, the old 'so bad it's good' thing. It has to be one of the funniest series I've read in a loing time... it's just not supposed to be. I counted 15 uses of the word "Goddamn" in one issue alone. And what is up with Wonder Woman being a man-hating feminist?

And my personal favourite:

Yeah... I think I agree with you on Babs. I think we've got, left to right: Selina, Babs, Zatanna, Black Canary?, Power Girl, Wonder Woman, [?], [?], Mary Marvel?, Harley and Ivy.

Don't know who the three are between WW and Ivy. It might be Mary Marvel sat down, but I'm not sure. As for the other two... *shrugs*

On another note, I watched some BTAS the other day (finally!). Managed to get in Forgotten, Be a Clown and Two-Face part 1. Forgotten was nothing special, although it was nice to see Alfred do something  . I guess the old amnesia thing is getting a bit over-used. Be a Clown... another Joker story, but nice because of it. Two-Face was great. I can really see why you like it. Need to find time to watch part 2 now...

EDIT: Just heard on the radio that Batman has been voted the UKs number 1 superhero. And I should think so too.

I was always impressed by him being colourblind, as his introduction in the Dark Victory paperback talks about his love of colour contrasts.

No idea frankly! It seems every man simply needs to stop at one point before he burns out like Miler currently is. I also love the way the whole "Something tells me to stop at the leg *crack!* I don't listen" dialog of DKR is amped up twice over

Funnily enough, I never cared for SR, you?

I got Selina, Babs, Zatanna, then switched your two as I think the long dress is more black canary (like her more modern hairstyle), then Wonder Woman, possibly SuperGirl (stressing possibly), maybe Vixen (maybe?) and then Ivy and possibly Harley.

On another note, I watched some BTAS the other day (finally!). Managed to get in Forgotten, Be a Clown and Two-Face part 1. Good job, I dislike the Forgotten a lot. Two-Face is great as you say, the series (even the producers say) really became better and more mature following this point, just you wait for part 2 and Heart of Ice. Love the whole "You're talking to the wrong Harv bit"

EDIT: Just heard on the radio that Batman has been voted the UKs number 1 superhero. And I should think so too.

Justice has for once been served!

Btw, glad you commented on the Harley review, I'll have to build you an actually good Brainbox mobile sometime.

It is pretty unusual to have a colourblind artist after all.

It seems every man simply needs to stop at one point before he burns out like Miler currently is.

Hasn't he got a Batman vs Al-Quaeda graphic novel planned? I fear that may be a step too far...

Funnily enough, I never cared for SR, you?

I didn't think it was that bad. But I was never much of a fan of the original Superman films. Come to that, I was never much of a fan of the original Batman films. I don't know, I just didn't take to them as much as I thought I would.

then switched your two as I think the long dress is more black canary (like her more modern hairstyle

Possibly. The hole in the dress around the chest area ( ) is where the similar hole in Power Girls costume is. Plus Power Girl is depicted as having a bob haircut, the same as the one here. I think you might be right about Vixen and Supergirl though. I can't really think of anyone else it could be.

Here's an interesting thing about Power Girl. The original artist (can't remember his name) decided he'd mess around a bit and draw Power Girl's cleavage ever-so-slightly bigger each issue, to see how long he could manage it without getting found out. I'm not sure how long he did, but I think it was quite a while.

I never cared for them all either, I'm still waiting for a Lex Luthor with an actually smart plan () and a villain who isn't Lex Luthor! And, well, Superman to actually punch someone would be nice.

Possibly. The hole in the dress around the chest area ( ) is where the similar hole in Power Girls costume is. Plus Power Girl is depicted as having a bob haircut, the same as the one here. Oh, how did I miss that? I'm not exactly a legs guy  Yes, that would be her then. The one on the left must be Black Canary then since her hair is also often seen as the curly way it is there. Yeah, I reckon Vixen I'm atleast right on, no idea who the red haired girl is though, but knowing Ivy and Harley's close "friendship" that might be her on the end afterall.

Here's an interesting thing about Power Girl. that's hilarious! I couldn't find the article, but I though tihs from wikipedia was pretty funny:

"A similar treatment of the character can be seen in Superman/Batman #4 (written by Jeph Loeb), in which the heroes need to distract the Toyman while Batman and Superman battle Captain Marvel and Hawkman. Seeking a way to accomplish this task, Batman notes that their opponent is a thirteen-year-old boy, and all attention goes to Power Girl, prompting her response: "What's everyone looking at me for? How am I supposed to distract... oh."

Not something we'd ever do is it?

The flash of lightning showing his second face before he has been scarred was neat too. I'd try and watch part 2 sometime soon, it is one of my favourites.

I was in it, how could I not?

I was rather surprised you didn't complain about the ending actually...

No, go ahead. As long as Matches doesn't feature, as you promised I could have him.

Me neither. That's why I loved the Legion of Superheroes television program that was on the WB for some time. Sure, it's not really the normal Superman world, but at least the main baddies are more than just psycological masterminds, and at least Superman really lays some smackdown. :sweet:

Hasn't he got a Batman vs Al-Quaeda graphic novel planned? I fear that may be a step too far...

Oh crap no! As if this whole issue wasn't controversial and heartbreaking enough, now we'll have Batman beating up terrorists from the middle east!

That said I laughed my head off at so many moments in just the first couple of issue alone. Vicky Vale barely clad by bra and g-string for about 6 pages. The "Goddamm Batman" line. Yes. A 'clever' play on the 60s series of course.

but knowing Ivy and Harley's close "friendship" that might be her on the end afterall.

It is. Look at what she's holding (no...)- a baton styled like a jesters hat.

Yes of course. I have that story as well. Pretty good, not least because Future Superman threatens to crush Batman with a Batmobile very similar to the 60s one...

The flash of lightning showing his second face before he has been scarred was neat too. I'd try and watch part 2 sometime soon, it is one of my favourites.

Found some time the other day. The bit at the end where Bats throws in the all the other coins... I think that might have been in a comic as well. Still very good though. I guess this is where the series really starts to find its feet, then really gets going with Heart of Ice.

Thanks, and I won't post him don't worry, he's on my brickshelf if you want to see him though.

It is, but in that comic he only throws an addtitonal coin, which is pretty lame really, in this he makes Two-Face go nuts on the floor, man that gave me the shivers when I saw it for the first time! Have you watched Heart of Ice yet?

Hm, funny you should say that - because using that logic, people would buy the Batman and Robin movie because it was "so bad it was good." So why is it that this comic is so good, yet everyone hates Batman and Robin with a passion?

Note: No, I don't think Batman and Robin is actually good in any way - I was just saying.

You know its funny. I remember when the first two batman movies (Batman and Batman returns) were released, they were critized by critics and fans alike for being to "dark" and not having the same feel as the orignal Batman tellavision series did back in the 60's. I even remember my unkle making simular coments when we came out of the theater after watching Batman returns.

We then get Batman and Robin and Batman forever. These two films give a very simular feel and look of the orginal series and comic book, but are looked down as being the worst of the batman movies again by critics and fans alike.

Just goes to show you that following the look of a series that was on 20 to 30 years prior doesn't mean it will work in present day cinema's or that its what the majority of people want to see.

No, really, All-Star is hilariously funny because it's so bad. Everyone refers to Bats as "the Goddamn Batman". In fact, I counted 15 uses of the word 'goddamn' in one issue alone! Batman and Black Canary, um, make out with their masks on because "it's better that way". Dick Grayson's parents are killed, then he's kidnapped by Batman and told to eat rats. Vicki Vale wanders around with very little on. Wonder Woman hates men... no really, she hates men. Superman is a bit of a spineless wimp. Batman is a borderline psychopath. Everyone gets beaten within an inch of their lives every issue. Oh, and in case you didn't know, Dick Grayson is 12 (read the first few issues, and you'll get this).

That said though, the Batmobiles are pretty cool. And Babs Gordon is quite cute...

Heh, that doesn't even make sense, especially considering that I remember reading somewhere that Batman himself called himself that. I think it went this way:

"Who the **** do you think I am? I'm the ***-**** Batman!"

Talk about out of character - Batman's never followed the crowd, so why would he reduce himself to the same level that everyone else is reducing himself too?

But I think you missed my point - I was saying that people could use the same logic used on this comic and apply it to Batman and Robin - "it's so bad that it's good" - but no one ever seems too.

Yes it is, it diverges from the storyline a bit, but considering its lean 70 minute running time it definitely had too. The fights are brilliant, it is very dark, and has a good storyline. Plus, Alec Baldwin (Jayne) from Firefly voices Supes, so that boosts the film by about 27% right?

Waiting for a back Mutt/Agents hairpiece, then I can do a black hair version, and a brown hair version (seeing as how Matches has been both).

Good idea, I prefer brown hair myself, there are already way too many black haired characters in Batman, I don't think the writers realise that there isn't exactly a majority of them compared to brunettes and blondes.

Hmm... Batbrick and Brainbox MOC special anyone? No, seriously, I might do that.

That would be......interesting

We also seem to go out of control on other threads, I've had to move conversations to here from Agents, History and Space threads!

Yeah... just ignore the bits where we talked about Batbrick's mum, my laptop, upcoming Lego projects, intended Lego purchases, this years films and James Bond.

And Kim Possible too, which for some reason BB1 hasn't seen. It's pretty much like a cartoon version of the current Agents line

I've seen it and I liked it. Since I normally don't like Superman this is remarkable! (I've read the book too and it's decently close considering how much they have to compress.)

And fellow Tasmanian backs me up!

But I think you missed my point - I was saying that people could use the same logic used on this comic and apply it to Batman and Robin - "it's so bad that it's good" - but no one ever seems too.

No, it is different frankly. Batman and Robin is very homoerotic in nature with Batnipples, neon lights and a lot of things I won't go to mention. The Adam West series wasn't bad, it was great and cheesy. B&R is not good in any way, because the production and sets made good sense, but the dialog, aforementioned homoerotica, neon everything, insufferable puns and more made it unbearable. On the other hand, All Star B&R is Miller going insane amongst gorgeous art, no puns and the sheer hilarity of what he is writing. Mr Freeze in B&R spouting "Ice to see you!" every five seconds, is not hilarious

Batbrick Away!

Heh - just goes to show - pretty graphics and "mature" dialogue don't make the comic. I remember that "The Batman" also had a horible Mr Freeze - the design was amazing, but he spat out so many horrible puns that his evil voice acting just made him laughable. Although, there was one episode in season 4 where he almost totally let go of the puns and actually became cool... Oh snap - I did a pun too! :hmpf::tongue:
