Bolt1970 Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Tell me about it. I built the veyron when first released no problems at all. I just don't get how they're turning opposites but I know I don't want to strip 3500 pieces to resolve it. Just thought someone here might have an idea i could try. If I have to strip it down I will but hopefully not Quote

Captain Ron Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Hi all. New here but been lurking for months. The wealth of knowledge in this site is frankly incredible. I've been a Lego fan all my life and have in recent years reawakened my interest. I've just completed book 1 of this awesome Lamborghini Sian model. To challenge myself a bit more I decided to build it as an RHD example. To this end I've been working from the PDF instructions (keeping the lovely manuals immaculate) and reversing the pages left/right in batches of 50 or so by screenshotting on my iPad and then flipping the images horizontally. All going well so far. Went to download book 2 last night but the Lego.com site seems to be having issues with the PDF download links for this and some other models. Anyone have a link to somewhere else that has the original PDFs of the manuals? Quote

I don't know if I messed something up when I was building the gearbox, but it's super tight, even though I tried to keep some gaps between all the rotating parts. My biggest gripe, though, is that Book 1 completely came part and the worst thing about it is that I even took extra care not to open the pages too far and damage the spine. I literally just put my iPhone over the corner of the pages to keep the book from closing, but the spine of the book still broke in 2 places (under its own weight) so the middle of the book completely fell out. Does Lego replace manuals? Just a quick update on this: After some e-mails back and forth (the first one telling me that the instruction booklet was not in stock and they cannot replace it and sending me a link to the online instructions instead) and some persistence, LEGO will, in fact, replace the booklet. I should be receiving a new booklet in about 10 days, so I'm happy! Quote
XenoRad Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 I will be getting this set but I waited since I had plenty to build in the meantime and was also a bit concerned about the color issues. Now that some time has passed and more sets had been delivered does anyone who has already built it NOT have the color issue and can share a few more details about where and when it was manufactured? Is is still a problem with all sets or have sets without this started appearing on the market? Quote
Bolt1970 Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 I got mine direct from lego on 25th of June and I can't see any colour problems or missing parts Quote
HoodRacer Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 I built my copy a while ago and am now going to try disassembling it. I was hoping to use the numbered boxes again, is the best way to get all the parts in the right boxes to follow the instruction manual in reverse? Quote

I suggest taking it apart first and then simply sorting the parts by type/colour. If you want to store them, there is no need to sort the pieces. You can sort them before you decide to rebuild the set or if you try to build the excellent B-model by @JamesJT https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-46921/JamesJT/ferrari-enzo-42115-b-model/#info or the Pimp up my Lamborghini version by @jb70 Quote

LegoHoops Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 (edited) Just recently been on holiday and came across a LEGO display in a small New Zealand town of Waihi. There was a recently completed Lamborghini 42115, the first one I had seen in real life! While I had read about issues with the Lime colour in the Lamborghini, mainly centred around Lime Pin/Pin Hole (15100) in the wing and colour variations in Lime Panels (ie. 5x11 64392/5x7 64394) - Brothers-Brick video. Seeing the Lamborghini in the flesh the colour variations would be not what you would expect from a premium NZD$649.99 LEGO model. The owner was also less than happy about the final appearance and finish. While there might be an acceptance on minor colour variations between Pins and Panels through the moulding process, you would think the colour could maintained better between Panel and Panel? In saying that, I have had to explain to a client that no two trees are created the same when they complained about grain variations in timber joinery! Sorry, it was hard to photograph true to life. I stumbled across the article in Block Magazine - July 2020, titled “What’s up with my bricks.” Below is an extract from the four page article:- What’s up with my bricks ...... Historically, the LEGO Group had purchased pre-coloured ABS pellets from a company called Bayer, ceding control of the colouring process to an outside entity. Thanks to the new factories, it could now mix its own ABS colours from raw granulate, thereby elevating its level of quality control. However, the sword of competencies cuts both ways. Swapping in the LEGO Group’s own manufacturing staff to the Flextronics colouring lines meant that the company had to add a new skill to its manufacturing portfolio. The production crew weren’t familiar with the process, and during the early years of running the new plants, they struggled to stabilise colour quality. Enter the brittle bricks. It is not known exactly what went wrong – the LEGO Group has kept that a tightly-guarded secret. However, fans first began to notice issues immediately after the factory takeovers. Stories began emerging of sets like 10182 Café Corner including dark red pieces of different shades in the same box; victims of stock produced before and after the change, or before and after different experiments in tweaking the process. Then, around 2014, something went majorly wrong with dark red, dark brown and reddish- brown, along with a few other minor colours. The bricks became brittle, and prone to cracking in half when pulled apart, even under normal circumstances. Again, nothing has been officially confirmed by the LEGO Group in terms of cause, as that would potentially reveal too much about its closely-guarded manufacturing process and ABS formula to competitors. But the problem was so bad that an internal investigation was launched, culminating in an official statement. ‘The LEGO Group has been working hard to address reported issues with Reddish Brown bricks becoming brittle and breaking under use,’ the statement read. ‘The issues have been identified and we are happy to announce that they have been fixed. The fixes were put in place earlier this year for the LEGO colours 154 (New Dark Red), 192 (Reddish Brown) and 308 (Dark Brown). We waited until now to make the announcement, as we wanted to be 100% certain all issues had been addressed and fixed. If you, at any time, have a LEGO element which doesn’t live up to the standard you’d expect from us – then please don’t hesitate to contact Customer Service and we will send you replacement parts. We are terribly sorry for the inconveniences this has caused our loyal LEGO Fans across the World [sic].’ The most likely explanation is that in an effort to stabilise the colour output in the transition from Flextronics, the LEGO Group experimented with various methods for dyeing the bricks in lieu of any existing expertise. Different colours require different pigment mixes made from different materials, and one of the combinations tried sometime in 2012 or 2013 presumably compromised the ABS mix. Thankfully, the LEGO Group has made good on its word in that press release, and the problem does seem to have been fixed. Edited July 18, 2020 by LegoHoops Quote
XenoRad Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 (edited) Thank you for the info. It's a bit disconcerting though that TLG is still suffering from color issues in 2020 when they first had this problem in as early as 2012. You'd think they could have put in place a more robust way of manufacturing so as to no longer have color differences, even for new or less used colors. Edited July 19, 2020 by XenoRad Quote
suffocation Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 Can't say they've done much better with black over the years. Quote

Thankfully I only noticed two different shades of black on my parts and they were part consistent. The L-beams vs the regular beams. The black panels have a totally different texture so I'm not even counting those. I think they need to hire some keen eyed people to jumble together the pallets to obtain a consistent color. Quote
Captain Ron Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 (edited) About three quarters of the way through my RHD build now. Rear spoiler went on last night. Gem of a design on that colour consistency issues aside. A web developer colleague in my work knocked together two quick HTML page which displays the two book PDF files but crucially renders the entire display mirrored. Very handy and I'll be able to use that in future for other complex car builds and probably furniture instructions too where I want the layout reversed. EDIT: Completed 26/7/2020. Took me about two weeks at a few hours a night. Really enjoyed the build. Highlights for me were the rear wing and the front and rear light clusters. I also got a buzz out of the front sill splitter construction. Made a total of about four errors along the way. The worst was discovering I had two blue pins in the holes where the black front wheel arches connect to the black dashboard sides. Getting that corrected was a sweat inducer! Edited July 26, 2020 by Captain Ron Completion update. Quote
