Micmac Posted August 4, 2020 Author Posted August 4, 2020 Made a small version of Hogwarts using the old colour scheme but with a movie accurate layout. Quote
Gloggie Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Hi. I would like to share my modification of the tower from the Whomping Willow set. The ground floor is no longer a generic potions classroom. I turned it into a bit crampy Gryffindor common room with a fireplace, comfy sofa, table and two chairs. Harry (on cleaning duty) is bewitching the brush to clean all the misplaced books and empty mugs. The second floor with the boys' dormitory was perfectly fine from the beginning, so I left it almost intact. The only addition I managed to fit is Harry's trunk. Ron is ransacking it in search for something sweet. The 3rd floor originally held a small owlery, but I found a better place for that. The room is really small, but I managed to fit the whole girls' dormitory there. Well, at least Hermione's bed :) Quote

This looks great, well done. Really like how you have filled it up. On the clutter comment I think you could remove the two small red chairs as the big one is there and they don't really add anything extra that isn't there already. Love it. Quote

Fortunately I buy the Superheroes set, so I have that. I assume they’re cheap enough to buy online though. I can’t tell which trans clear brick is being used as the connection? I figure it’s a snot brick with studs on two sides, but I looked on Brickset but couldn’t find it. Quote

Steal away, we are all sharing designs and ideas. Its a snot but with the hollow back and i used a 1x1 round hollow transparent stud to fill the back. Think it came with the Quidittich set. Quote

I just got done trying it out with green. I used trans blue on the ends then put two trans green in between & the blue is hardly noticeable. Quote
Gloggie Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Hi again. It's the 2nd part of my my Hogwarts modifications. The Great Hall set depicts a really nice hall, but I didn't like the tower. So I've changed the tiny chamber with the Mirror of Erised into a fully fledged Dumbledore's office. The three small turrets. Maybe they do not extend from the middle of the roof, like in the movies, but I wanted them to actually form a part of the office. The Pensieve, front bookshelves, chair and desk are, obviously, from the Clock Tower set. The extended roof surface provides enough display space for headmaster portraits. Quote
Magicbrick Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Hi all, Long time lurker here, but time to make my first post! Recently came out of my "dark ages" during the Covid lockdown. Rediscovered my love for lego and specifically the Harry Potter theme and naively decided to start building Hogwarts in minifigure-ish scale. It's a big project and it will take ages, but it's been a lot of fun so far! After finding out as much as I could on the castle lay-out, the first building I tackled was the Viaduct Entrance. I tried to stick very closely to the building style and colour scheme of the official sets. You can find a couple more images here https://flic.kr/s/aHsmQiHZhL Interior/scene-wise I haven't done too much as you will see, beside making a library with a restricted section, you'll see there. But that is a work in progress, I'll focus on the exteriors first of all and we'll see how far we get :). Quote

I have a lot of respect for giant Hogwarts MOCs, but this scale suits it best I think. Always like a library scene too Edited August 27, 2020 by Seaber Quote

Seaber Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 I'm working on a few MOCs for the other side of Diagon Alley, I'm colourblind though, so would someone be able to advise on what colours the following shop fronts are? Eeylops on the left, Wiseacres on the right. Potages and Madam Malkins. More of Madam Malkins on the far left. The Magical Menagerie. If someone could let me know colours for the windows, doors and sign above each shop, as well as the arch above Madam Malkins, that would be really helpful. Thanks! Quote

Hard to tell with some of the lighting but you are also limited by lego window colours but Malkins is purple but there are no small purple windows. Eylops looks like the very pale pink like the wall of QQS but white might look better than the pink that lego do. Potages has black windows. Wiseacres has a blue tint and there are a few blue window colours. And maybe red for Magical Managerie. Check what colours the doors come in before you settle on a colour. Hope this helps. Quote

The window problem for Madam Malkin`s can easily be solved by using the Assembly square window technique with the transparent garage door panels sideways. This is also advantageous because you could see the minifig dresses more clearly in the window. Just don't curve the window panels, just leave them in a straight line. I would use tan windows for Eeylops with tan and dark tan stonework/greebling mixed. Roof technique like the one on Fortescue's but in medium nougat or you could use a lot of nougat and medium nougat 1x1 slopes Arch above Madam Malkin`s is purple. I would go with purple for the frames and dark blueish grey for the larger stonework sections up to the first floor Edited August 31, 2020 by Metanoios91 Quote

JoeyB Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 (edited) I'm working on two things In Studio, first is a Chamber of Secrets playset moc that's nowhere near completion, and the other is a total revamp of the Hungarian Horntail, which I think is a pretty bad set. So, I'm putting my bricks where my mouth is and trying to make a better one, here's some images of the WIP body and legs. Edited September 1, 2020 by JoeyB Photos not uploading Quote
shadefoundry Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 I just finished my attempt at The Quad entrance that was somehow left out of the Great Hall set. I built it with as many connection points as I could fit in, since I'm not sure how my final display will look once I get the Astronomy Tower. In terms of placement, it connects nicely to the Great Hall tower, and combined with the arch entrance segment from the Whomping Willow set, makes up the whole of that part of the model which connects to the astronomy tower. I also built this little connection piece out of spare bits that gives a bunch of different points of connection at roughly the angle that the aforementioned arch segment has connected to The Quad. It's nothing fancy, but its useful for getting things oriented. Apologies for the low quality images, I don't have much space in my living area to display things. More images are available here though: https://imgur.com/a/NVDsWK3 Quote

Ah, that's very helpful, thanks! I may go with this colour (green?) for the Menagerie as I assume they kept the same colour scheme for the shop when the set got revamped. Otherwise that's all really helpful, thanks so much! Ideally the window pieces from QQS and F&B would be available in the correct colours, but in lieu of that the small windows will do nicely. Right now with the parts and colours available I'm thinking: Wiseacres dark blue Malkins dark purple Potages black Eyelops white, tan or even light grey - ill have to experiment. Menagerie dark green or red. I forgot to check the colours for the Apothecaries! On 8/31/2020 at 7:52 PM, Modal said: @Seaber please share when you finish! The first five shops on this side of the Alley don't really change shape, although the later films make the Alley more curved. In the earlier films, Potages is the location for the Magical Menagerie, the Apothecaries are in the right place, Wiseacres was where Eeylops now is, and Eyelops was where QQS was. The next two shops are Madam Malkins and Potages in the earlier films, you can get a good look at them in PS. Quote
