Hmmm, I've never really been disrespected because of my TFOL-ness, even if I am turning 15 in less than a month. I doubt that it will change as a grow older over the years. Also, with every new friend I make, I honestly tell him/her that I like Lego, and he/she doesn't make a big deal out of it.

Anyway, don't worry about what the AFOL might think. If you're ''lucky'', you won't see him again.

You have my word, it's not the end of the world. Not for him, not for me, and hopefully not for you. :classic:

You definitely did not insult him. Maybe he felt insulted, but only because he misinterpreted your comment. I can remember that I was once talking to a friend. I don't know what our topic was back then, but it was unimportant and nonsense anyway. Usual talk among friends. So we were talking and smiling. At one point of the conversation I said "...like a wood gnome". It was exactly then when, coincidentally, an older man with a white, long beard was passing by. Afterwards my friend told me that man had looked in an angry way just when I had said "...like a wood gnome". So he must have felt addressed, but I didn't mean him. We were talking about something totally different and not about him. So I seem to have offended a person without wanting to. A pure misunderstanding. Such things simply happen, unfortunately. No need to sleep badly because of that.

I buy everything off the internet, simply cause i'm too lazy to go shopping

But i'm not a person who is easily offended nor do i have a lot of shame.

I wouldn't be offended by your comment, might even have taken it as a compliment!

About 3 years ago i was in Las Vegas for my Brothers Wedding and i took a trip to Wal-mart and purchased the millennium Falcon (second minifig scale version) for an astonashing $60 which was amazing as the retail price at the time in the Uk was way too much ( bring on the weak dollar and triumphant pound!) this then flew back to the UK as my hand luggage, its a huge box and only just fit in the overhead locker.

It was also strapped to the top of my suitcase on the long long journey from heathrow back to my home in SE London.

I had lovely comments from absolutly everyone, Hotel porters, taxi driver, check in staff, flight attendants, other passengers. It was looked on with awe and wonder with many people commenting on how jelous they were and asking where could they get one, especially lots of guys in their 30's.

There were also a few kids giving me the absolute daggers with their little faces green with envy.

I buy Lego all the time, I'm very proud of my hobby, i never had a dark age and when i tell people what i collect they are really interested and this usually sparks of talks of childhood memories and on a few occasions prompted them to sell me their collection.

Im 32 and never had any negative comments.

I shouldn't laugh at it, but I must... hehe, pwnt.

I'm only 19 years young  and a true fan of LEGO. I have just completed my International Baccalaureate exams but the evening before the exams started I built LEGO until 1 a.m. It felt like that was the last thing of all to do before the exams but still I did it. When I told it to my classmates they didn't look at me wierdly as I thought they would but said: "Oh! I want to do it too!" I must say that I was a bit suprised but I felt good. :sweet:

It's harder than you think to not insult AFOL's, so good job there. Yesterday, I went to the store for the Indiana Jones sets. The movie got mixed, that bugged me, so I was already unsure about buying the Indy sets. The Jungle Duel was sold out completely, and today was the first day JD was sold. Every single one of the 50+ copies was taken. Usually, that doesn't happen. But then I saw the reason, and BOY was I bricked off. One of the bad traits some AFOL's get is taking multiple copies of things. I don't mean a couple, for pieces and stuff. I mean buying out the megablocking store, it's not fair. AFOL's usually don't do that, but some do it to get a profit. These AFOL's shouldn't label the typical Eurobricker, but man, I hate it when they take half the copies when I practically never buy sets and earned the ten dollars for it.

I've noticed that too. I notice this alot with star wars. Though i don't collect the star wars line, i've seen many of AFOL buy out the whole star wars section. One time i saw some dude clean out all the ISD's and Sand Crawlers. His total was over $1500!

If it was me I would have told you to suck my back and been on my way think of building the beautiful thing  ..hmm well I've never thought of Lego as nerdy as such, but at my old skool the biggest nerd in the skool played with it so then it was, so, It's not that lego is nerdy..it's just that some "nerds" play with it so then it is considered "nerdy" umm yea anyay just my 2 cents..

Same ay. When bionicle came out everyone including me liked it! but I was talking about back to year seven and anyway long story..

But can we really call people who buy out 15 or 20 huge sets AFOLs? What are the odds that they turn around and put it all on Bricklink at a markup? I know it can be called capitalism, but it just stinks!

A few of my friends use to mess with me because I said my hobby was LEGO. Then they would come by and the first thing they always do is...."COOL!" And then they start playin' around and checkin' everything out.

Besides, it can only bother you if you let it bother you!

So I was in line to buy some Clone Walker Battle Packs at a Lego store in the mall. When I reach the cashier, she says "So many?" Then I say I'm buying it for my brother. But since I'm a junior in High School, I get weird looks from other teens like me. I try to avoid it by bringing my own bag or something. I was just wondering if any of you get those looks.

If I do, I haven't noticed.

Besides i'm passed that age of caring what other people think of my hobbies.

wierd i saw this exact same topic over at FBTB. When i was a teenager i got wierd looks. Now people don't really give me funny looks because they assume that imbuying for a son or something.

I don't know but due to my face looking quite young and me ending up a bit shorter, I'd say that most people still think I'm an older kid that only collects lego. And I'm serious. If you think I'm old, then I'm gonna bring you down to MY local LEGO store.

I don't get weird looks although once the person at the cash register said, "I love these Sets!" he look about 34.

Sometimes.

A family friend worked in the local Woolworths ( :cry_sad:) and would roll her eyes, (mind you her husband has like as much Doctor Who as is humanely possible, he gets exactly the same reaction) and in ASDA when I got a whole bunch of sets I went to the self service and a shop assistant was mildly surprised when I said that on was for my little brother but the rest were mine, we had a short conversation on hobbies.

I suppose people are most surprised because I am a girl. Some people comment on age, but I smile and say its a great stress reliever.

The worst reactions are from teenagers, you know 14 year old chavs and emos. The giggle as I walk by sometimes.

Ho Hum, Don't Worry, street cred isn't a fun thing, LEGO is

I don't usually do any "bulk buying" in retail stores, so I guess mostly it would be assumed I'm purchasing for someone else; brother, nephew, son, etc. (Indeed I have purchased Duplo for my nephew on occasion now). Sometimes it's probably obvious I'm buying for myself by the amounts of time I spent perusing the sets on the shelves, or if I make a couple visits in a couple of weeks. I don't think it's something to worry about, but then, I guess it's considered reasonably acceptable by my peers. I'd imagine it's more awkward for teenagers in particular.

Sometimes. I'll be buying like 20 lego sets and the cashiers will be like "That's alot." and "That's really expensive!" I get looks, but they don't bother me. I ignore them, I could care less what other people think about me.

Most the time I buy online because I have a busy work schedule.

But when I'm sometimes in a store some people do look weird and probably have questions.

And as Lego12 says, certainly if you buying much of the same set.

But I find it funny and it does not disturb me... as long as they don't ask stupid questions...

I don't really get strange looks, I mean, the owner of the store I mostly shop at is a Lego enthusiast! Although I bet the guy at the local post shop is having a hard time figuring out why I get so many packages sent through to me. He knows me by sight now.

Isn't that what TLG made shop@home for? Anyway, not really since I conveniently go out generally when everyone else is eating dinner.

I'm weird that way.
