LM71Blackbird Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 (edited) So many ships so little time... Over the last several months the shipyards of Quinnsville have produced numerous vessels with the intention of bringing the wealth of the new land to the settlement. While the overall goal has been achieved, many vessels have been lost in the process. Sistership build 1 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Because of this, Mayor Brickford has paid the always bustling shipyard a visit to see about refitting the dwindled merchant fleet of Quinnsville. Sistership build 2 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr To his great satisfaction, many ships matching those that have been lost were nearing completion and would be ready to launch before the end of the week! ----------------------------------------- A quick little writeup for a mass sistershiping campaign of 5 vessels. The HMS Barracuda, Pelican, Turaco, Puffin, and Swift. The Shipyard is a repurposed build but the story is fresh! Edited March 10, 2020 by LM71Blackbird Quote
Kolonialbeamter Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Good looking shipyard, definitely liking it Just... it's a build you've used before, and you're using it to sistership 5 vessels... it's a bit beyond the gaming-the-system line for my taste. However, if that's a standard then I'll apologize in advance. What I'd like to see instead of a repurposed build + some text is that you show some close ups of the shipyard, or onboard the/any ship, and depict a dialog between some characters, etc. You know, something new. @Capt Wolf's sistership builds are always great inspiration as to what can be done to fill a rather repetitive, boring subject (aka sistershipping ) with lore and life. I hope you don't get this the wrong way, just trying to find common ground here Quote
Fraunces Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Nice build!! I like large build more than small ones, and the ship is nice. 1 hour ago, Kolonialbeamter said: Just... it's a build you've used before, and you're using it to sistership 5 vessels... it's a bit beyond the gaming-the-system line for my taste. I have to agree with @Kolonialbeamter. Is it possible to sistership so many ships at once? I did not know. Hoping for @LM71Blackbird ofcourse it is possible Quote
Bregir Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Before this turns into a big discussion, let me give you my view: Sistershipping builds have one overarching purpose: To inform other players that ships are sistershipped. (So no one can raise a secret fleet) This means that they should: Cover the story Other players must be made aware that new ships are licensed The new ships must be named and brought into the story Link to the original mocs Specify what the "new ships" are (names) None of the above requires more than one build. However, on top of that, in BoBs we generally operate with the concept of "sufficient effort". Hence, you could argue that a sistership build for 10 large ships would require more than one for 1 small ships, but this is not explicitly specified anywhere. This is not a hard rule, but a rule-of-thumb. However, *if* the build is repurposed and no new effort has been put into it (I have not investigated this), I agree we can question whether sufficient effort has been put into it. As Kolonialbeamter says, close-ups with some life in it, a new interior, etc. could be the answer. Please let me know if this leads to any questions. I will see if I can find 5 minutes to clarify the sistershipping rules, as I know they are not entirely clear. Quote
Kwatchi Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 My apologies to Blackbird but I’m going to pile in here. We’re still a building game right? I would say this should be the driver for decisions. My view is sistershipping is a ‘cheap’ rule to begin with, hence I haven’t used it since the era 2 start. And I am not a fan of multi-builds either; it led to those ridiculous row boat fleets for example. One MOC should equal one ‘game move’, otherwise we’re just hosting a board game here. Ofc the court already knows my position from my private letter I sent a few months back, and obviously disagrees with my opinion. Quote

I as understand it, sister shipping is a one time deal right? 7 minutes ago, Kwatchi said: My apologies to Blackbird but I’m going to pile in here. We’re still a building game right? Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I understand your viewpoint on the matter. All points noted. I wasn't planning on repurposing a build, however, time got away from me so far this month with that pesky real life stuff. I can certainly update the topic with a new build and expanded story to remedy any errors and/or misunderstandings on my part... I've never sister shipped before, butafter almost 2 years in BoBs, I wanted to bring back a few of my starting vessels for one last hurrah before moving on to new vessels. Capt Wolf Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 My 2 cents: 1 hour ago, Kwatchi said: We’re still a building game right? I would say this should be the driver for decisions. As such, I've always treated sistership builds as one build per ship -- just like the original effort, only easier to build! Ships are understandably involved and time-consuming builds, and it is disappointing when our work is quickly dispatched to Davy Jones' Locker. So that is why the sistershipping rule exists: to save us from the task of having to build new ships from scratch (it saves us from even having to build a new ship at all!). But it shouldn't relieve us of the task of building a modest MOC of some sort. So a 1-MOC-per-sistership policy seems like a reasonable approach to me. I think it's also better for storytelling and the lore of the game. Quote

I thought you were asking about posting multiple builds in one thread. 25 minutes ago, LM71Blackbird said: as understand it, sister shipping is a one time deal right? No, you can sistership a (prime) ship multiple times, just once per loss. That's why we have the Oscuridad III, but it couldn't be built until we had lost the Oscuridad II. Or am I misunderstanding what you mean by sistershipping being a one-time deal? Quote
Bregir Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Capt Wolf has brought this up in court, and we will come up with a clearer policy. I personally generally support a very limited sistershipping policy (perhaps max one ship at any one time per player to keep your darling), but we discussed this extensively in court, and the compromise was 20 ship-levels per player. Some felt it would be too limited if someone lost too many ships at once and couldn't build new. I think we will stick to this, not to open that discussion up again. Quote

Nope, you've got it down packed. @Bregir, @Capt Wolf As this is my error and misunderstanding, I will commit to do 5 separate builds and five separate threads for each if my five ships. I will shoot for at least a 16x16 size each depicting a different aspect of the sister shipping process. Quote

I suggest you wait until we have clarified the rules. :) Quote

Keymonus Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Nice dry docks, the crane in particular is very well done! Maybe (but I don't know how much it is possible in LDD) some close ups and a little more activity (more minifigs, piled planks…) would look better, but in general I like this a lot! Quote
