There's an image on IG of Mario without his overalls/feet. It's something I figured would be the case months ago. Some of the upcoming sets are probably going to be the various powered-up costumes he has in game.

ok, the 4 little sets are fire mario, flying mario, cat mario and builder mario (yellow hat)

That‘s a really good selection  I hope they do Tanooki Mario as well sometime in the future, or some of the power-ups from the Galaxy games :classic:

I assume "Flying Mario" is Flying Squirrel Mario from New Super Mario Bros. U and not the Flying Mario power-up from Super Mario Galaxy, correct?

Almost certainly not the Galaxy one, as isn't that just regular Mario? (Edit: no it's not) It could be  propeller Mario or balloon Mario (lol could you imagine the SMM2 version in Lego form?) or tanooki Mario or cape Mario or racoon Mario.

The Galaxy one is Mario with a black hat and overalls.

It's probably propeller mario, though P-balloon mario would be hilarious

Actually looks really cool!

They are cool but I feel like they're kinda pricy for what you get. I'm assuming there's no tech in them, and it's just one of the stickers that the Lego mario reads.

Also, all the people on Nintendo's videos and tweets about this are so annoying lol, saying "this should've been in the Direct" or "why are you making this instead of games" - like, do they not realise that Nintendo isn't making this lol

Even if they don‘t have any technical parts to them, there‘s still plenty of new and expensive moulds in these packs, so the price makes sense to me :classic:

I personally think this idea of these costumes is genius for lego. I can see these being the 4 best selling sets after the starter set. Lego will for sure pump out a few new costumes per wave

These 4 expansion sets make me realize how much I hate Lego’s idea of making Mario exclusive to a starter pack. These 4 sets are basically useless unless you pay more for that starter pack

There might actually be some small amount of tech in the overalls. Looking at the front of the base Mario tech block, there are what look to be six contact points. This suggests an add-on program system. We should probably think of the Adventures with Mario Starter Course as the console for this gaming system. When viewed from that perspective, $60 doesn't seem that big of an expense.

Yeah, I can't really defend this theme anymore. $10 for a few pieces, one of which has a small amount of tech?

The cat and builder costumes aren't even close to accurate, and like you say they're all completely useless without the $60 starter pack. I can't see these selling well at all.

I don't know. I think the problem is, like with almost every set in the theme, these are useless without the $60 starter set. I can't see kids preferring these to their phones and switch consoles, I think it's just going to be nintendo collectors who buy this at this point.

Honestly I think these are pretty bad. I still think the Mario figure is ugly as is, but setting that aside... Ouch. Fire Mario and Builder Mario look okay, but Propeller Mario and Cat Mario look nothing like their video game counterparts. They don't just wear little hats like that and shouldn't have overall buttons. The screen makes Cat Mario look even worse.

I don't get the griping about Mario being only in the starter set. Would you want to buy a $30 part multiple times to get other sets? I would definitely not want to have to pay for multiple Marios.

The suits are a neat idea but a mixed result. Really need a tanuki suit instead of cat suit.

The main issue here is that the entire theme is being pushed on the interactivity aspect, which cost us minifigs and more traditional system-based sets most of us were hoping for, but then it's being locked behind a $60 set. I agree that every set including Mario and having a drastic jump in price as a result wouldn't be the best thing, but I don't think having the lowest cost to get the interactive Mario being $60 is good when the whole theme revolves around it, especially since it's clearly targeted at kids who probably don't have a ton of money to throw around for Lego sets.

Even builder mario has an inverted color scheme! Honestly, brick-built helmets for the propeller and cat could have been more accurate than this.

Well said. The literal only way to give these sets any value is to purchase a $60 set.

Exactly. Buying additional Joy-Cons for a Switch costs $110 AUD, and the cheapest I’ve ever found them was $90 - IE, $45 AUD for one. I’ve already put in a preorder for the Mario Starter Pack and the Monty Mole GWP, so I’m totally happy to frame this as me paying $80 AUD for a console/controller and 450-odd LEGO pieces.

These suits are cute, but I don’t really see myself getting them. Maybe I’ll get Cat Mario, but I’m not attached to the others (though if they made Freeze Mario or Galaxy Flying Mario, then I’d get excited). I think it’s a bit more interesting that Maker Mario includes a couple of pieces of this new course builder set of parts in light bley. We haven’t seen that part in that colour before, it was only green and red and yellow and blue, so we can assume that those will appear in more sets. Exciting!
