I think its a cool set! Since I'm a long time Nintendo fan and actually started with the NES it's something I'm sure I will get.

But I think I might even mod it to see if I can put one of my NES or Famicom classic system inside the set and make it work...

Since I use the Switch Classic NES wireless controller with my Classic NES mini this should make it a breeze!?

That price is a bit unfortunate(S@H has it listed at $229.99)...but what else is new with LEGO? This is better than I thought. That scrolling feature is just awesome. I’m trying to tell myself to skip this for now, because I do want to get HP D2C day one...but I’m likely going to grab this. It hits my love for real world items built to scale.

Yes, this set is ‘awesome’.  I say that because the word ‘awesome’ has come to mean absolutely nothing due to its overuse.  The real deal can be purchased new for for under $150 US.
What a waste of production capacity to make a model of a less than 40 year old game system.

They can sell you different cartridges and different backgrounds worth in lego haha i can see some people using the nes shell for their raspberry pi setup though

Didn't notice that the TV brand is "LO-TECH" until the HD pictures came out, that's a great touch.

This is very tempting for me, much more up my alley than the electronic Mario sets. $230 is a lot to swallow, sure, but I have a feeling this will be a big success. Hopefully this is a sign that the Nintendo partnership is going to be a long-lasting one.

That seems like an awfully cynical take on things. I'm not going to keep an NES plugged in on my desk with World 1-1 queued up at all times. This is a well made display piece with unique functions and parts different from any other set on the market. People aren't purchasing it to play NES games.

A chrome gold Link cartridge, please.

Any guesses on what the back sticker references are? Model Number is obvious. And the “Made in Japan” one. Serial Number though...and the letters/numbers in the lower part are I’m guessing designers of the set.

Looks like just ordinary click hinges/finger hinges attached to some sort of bracket to me. I don't think it's new.

Oh didn’t think of those. Can’t wait to see. The first reviews should be coming soon

I think this is amazing.  I haven't been this excited about a set since the Barracuda Bay reveal.  I do wish the price was a little lower.  When Brickset first posted the reveal article they had the price listed as $200.  That would have been fantastic.  $230 is a little harder to swallow.  Even still, this might be my first ever Day 1 purchase.  I want to support this idea in hopes that they create expansions for it down the line.  A Zelda cartridge and screen would be amazing, as would any number of other Nintendo property games.  I wonder how much those would have to cost.  $50?  They would require a number of printed elements.

Can anyone tell if the spine of the cartridge has the name on it?  I'm guessing no, which would be a shame.  That and the lack of a lip along the entire length of the lid are my only complaints.

Yep.  It is cynical.  But, why are they purchasing it?  Lego has done an excellent job making the set look like a real NES.  So, why not just buy another NES for 40% less and put it on display?  Not like you don’t want to shell out hundreds of thousands of euros/dollars for a real Lamborghini but buy the Lego version instead.

If it were just a grey toaster NES you might have a point but it's also a very cool retro TV with an interesting build mechanic and interactive functionality (that you have to pay extra to use...).  I own multiple original systems and this is still an easy purchase.  Methinks this set just isn't for you and you can move along.

I don't think you understand Lego.  I think it's an awesome, err... neato bandito, set, and will be fun to put together.

Because they’re AFOLs? Pretty obvious don’t you think? Maybe they already have a real one & they also think the set is great. Or, like me, they’re bit by nostalgia & like the TV & scrolling gameplay feature.

Apparently Instagram has information about a 20$ "Toad's special Hideaway" set, presumably a comic con exclusive. Thoughts?

Personally I hope to get my hands on it; Toad is probably my favorite of the mario figures, and I'm happy to take an opportunity to snag him in a cheaper set.

Ooh, sounds exciting! Personally I don’t much care about Toad but I want the “Hi, friend!” sticker tile to go with my custom Luma on my course and that’s currently only in the sets with Toad and Yoshi (and now that I know the ‘invincibility block’ also comes in the King Boo set I’ve lost a lot of interest in Mario’s House). So a small set with Toad (and that tile) would be great.

It came from a target system listing and it was listed as limited edition online only and falls in like eight the Vader burst so most likely it will be a comic con exclusive set you can buy for $20 on target’s website

Okay, so apparently Mario is replacing Hidden Side?

Was that planed all along or it was just a last minute decision?

I don’t get that, in what way does Mario replace HS? It’s just a theme that starts the same year another one ends, that’s like saying that Minions replaced Toy Story 4  Besides, it is well known that the Mario theme has been in development for multiple years, potentially longer than HS

I would guess it has something to do with the fact that they both use apps.

That’s not a fair comparison. From what I’ve seen the Mario app is just for instructions and sharing your designs, not a full-on game that’s a vital part of the experience. Mario doesn’t need the all to work as far as I can tell.

People are just making "Mario replaces HS" memes on Instragram to joke around, it doesn't mean anything. There is no connection between the themes, app or not. HS would have continued longer if it performed better.

Not sure if anybody cares, but my Mario Starter Set preorder from Target shipped today, so I should have a it a good 10+ days early. Glad I went with Target instead of S@H for that one.
