Posted March 29, 20204 yr So the actual name of this is to be decided, it depends upon the route I take when I do the bodywork. With a few hours to waste yesterday this is what I care up with. First thing was to get a rear axle within the 15 stud width. The second was to design an engine. I’ve gone for a straight six which sits at a slight angle. At the moment I don’t have suspension on the front as I think it will be too complicated with the engine being there. For the rear I wanted some basic suspension so I’ve opened for a solid rear axle. Here’s my first pic. Might do some more this afternoon.
March 29, 20204 yr Author 46 minutes ago, Jim said: I need to get myself that new diff. Looks useful. I bought a few of them from Bricks n Pieces when they became available. Along with 2 of the large white frames (as you can see I’ve used one already) and 4 of the white and red small wheel arches. I didn’t fancy the blue as I’ve not got much of that colour. the new diff is good but you have to carefully drop the bevel gears into it. The first couple of times I had them binding. I used it here mainly as I just wanted to use it asap
March 29, 20204 yr Author Work for today ... built the yellow box to check model, I also think it helps for scaling. This was with the 11 high limit which I admit was going to be tough. then I joined the chassis together and that’s it for me today. I don’t want to build too much each weekend, next update next weekend.
March 29, 20204 yr The enigne looks really cool. I like the idea. Edited March 29, 20204 yr by MajklSpajkl

April 5, 20204 yr Author So only a little update from me from a couple of hours on Saturday. Today has been a day of relaxation in the garden. I did a little bit of work on the chassis. Then started on the bodywork. I think it’s ok so far. Part of the problem is the engine height. I might have a new look at the steering and see if I can get it to run down the side of the engine to enable a drop of 1 stud. the other problem I found is I don’t have the curved panels in white and I’m not going to bricklink any at this time. So I’m thinking I might SOS these panels (sticker over sticker) and hope the white stickers I add peel off and don’t damage the originals from the vette. Also been working on a roll hoop to go behind the driver.

April 9, 20204 yr Author I wasn’t happy with the bonnet height on my model so yesterday in between meetings (my home office is also the room with all my Lego) I came up with this. The engine lowered by 1 stud which was achieved by offsetting the steering to 1 side, the right of course. You’ll also notice I’ve changed the large frame to black, raided from the Defender that I’ve not built yet. I’m also thinking of changing all the engine mount to black too. This weekend I’ll start again on the front end. Still not too sure which side of the wheels to use, the spokes or deep dish, of if you use black or white.
April 9, 20204 yr Black. Always black. I am finding on my build that the difference of one stud is significant. Both in difficulty and importance for the overall bodywork. I am happy this change will help you lower the hood, because the engine is worth keeping. My collection is also in my office. It’s making for distracted meetings for me.
April 9, 20204 yr Author This is the distraction in the office. I’ve done a series of 20 Daily Lego funny posts to my work based car club Facebook group so I’ve had these guys and girls to keep me company on my desk. And yes the 1 stud difference I think will make the model look so much better. But I’ve had to change the whole chassis to do this. Edited April 9, 20204 yr by Seasider
April 18, 20204 yr Author So I didn’t get to make any progress over the long Easter weekend as I spent most of it in pain suffering as I’d put my back out, but thankfully I’m better now. But I did some thinking during the week and I switched to stud.io and had a few hours today to attack it and this is the output so far. I quite like this so far but not too sure of a few things. Do the grilles remain chrome or perhaps go black or light grey. If they go black I’ll change the plates behind them otherwise it’s black on black. For the front splitter I’m not sure on white or black. Finally I’m not sure if this will remain as a Roadster, it may morph into a fastback coupe. Hope to get some more cad time tomorrow
April 18, 20204 yr The most important thing is that you are feeling better. This looks better and better; I could envy you in amount of white parts; since I was 2 hours to late to buy one (mostly white) technic set on huge discount, now I have to reconsider how to finish rear part of my convertible hotrod...
April 21, 20204 yr Sorry, but it's against contest regulations to build very cool black and white cars! Keep up the good work. You are doing great.
April 21, 20204 yr Do I have (to) rich imagination, or "doors" remind me on "collapsed" doors on BMW Z1? (Specially to someone who except pre WW2 328 doesn't like BMW cars...)
April 21, 20204 yr Author Well that’s ok @Jim as it’s got a dark grey interior @I_Igor I was actually thinking more like a Morgan or a roadster that doesn’t have doors. Hopefully I’ll get time over the next couple of days to work out the rear deck and what the rear face will look like. the challenge is getting it all adequately supported considering the potential rear diff movement Edited April 21, 20204 yr by Seasider

This is one of classic cars that was very long in production virtually unchanged and if I remember correctly they are in 110 years of history based on wooden frame and build by hand.
April 21, 20204 yr Author Yes that’s a Morgan. My girlfriend bought me a factory tour and test drive a couple years ago they’re amazing to drive, so raw. but the wood frame is a common error. The chassis frame is steel or aluminium depending upon the model but the body is built of wood and then covered in metal. They’ve recently released a new line of cars off a new chassis but they still look like that, no need to change them. and yes they’ve been around a long time, 10 years longer than the car company I work for
April 21, 20204 yr I know that Aston Martin is established in 1913, so it must be some other; of course if it is a car manufacturer from the Island of GB...I do not want to think what happens to chassis when it is old...
April 22, 20204 yr I toyed with some Morgan shapes early on for my TC18, but I couldn't get the shapes right. It would be great if you could incorporate some of the design themes in your MOC, but it seems like your direction is a little more "new school." Looking forward to see how you close up the rear.
April 22, 20204 yr I see it like a Wiesmann, something like the one in the bottom left: That color combination does look great. Kind of off topic, as it was a 6-wide System MOC, but I have actually built a roadster in a similar style and color scheme: Edited April 22, 20204 yr by imvanya
April 22, 20204 yr Author Thanks everyone, yes it’s a bit of old and new school meets. I’m a big fan of roadsters and open top cars in general, one of the first things I built for this model was the roll hoop (similar to the one I have on my real Mx5). This model was always going to be about free styling it rather than copying something as I generally prefer that challenge. I’m not sure what the back end is going to look like yet. It’ll be a challenge given the trans red/orange/clear pieces I’ve got and the fact that I want the back to be stubby, and it all has to hang from the top because of my rear suspension setup. Next photo update most probably on Friday
April 23, 20204 yr Author So I managed to get some more CAD time and I think I’m finished. Stud.io model contains everything apart from the new Diff. A shot of the interior Rear End shot, not sure whether to include rear indicators or not I’m also unsure which side of the wheels to use ... “6 spoke alloys” or “steels” most probably not the best image to show the difference Time to get out my parts trays and see if I can actually build this and nothing is floating!
