Hello, I decided to join the contest because I find it really creative and inspiring.

I'd like to rebuild my child-dream car: Lancia Delta Martini.

At the moment I only started scaling it to the contest dimensions.

I started building this morning the front axle, trying a way to make an Ackermann steering geometry, here is the very simple result:

Enjoy :classic:

It's good you're trying to set the Ackermann steering system in such a small-sized car!

The problem with this setup is the fact that the inner wheels turn too much. To achieve perfect Ackermann geometry the wheelbase of your car should only be 8 studs. Several years ago I worked on a steering system for a 16-wide London taxi (still wip :look:) which requires a very tight turning circle and thus Ackermann steering.

With this setup you can double the perfect wheelbase to 16 which still might not be enough but closer to the one required. I would share the LDD file if I only knew how to...

Really interesting. I will complete chassis and test everything. Maybe I could reduce total turning radius to reduce the problem you are talking about

You don't need to - this setup will remain purely virtual, because after adding it to complete model will be torn apart.

You have to find another connection for the thin 6l liftarms of course. But that should not be a problem. Apart from that it is much sturdier than it looks. I used the setup in a 16-wide car and the steering is very reliable and smooth - even if with the slightly angled gear rack while steering.

Some progress on the chassis.

I've added a small fake v6 engine + steering via steering wheel and Hog on the back (still a work in progress).

I'm working also on bodywork but with no success at the moment.

I'm not sure I will complete the model by the deadline of the contest, I need to buy many parts and with the covid restrictions I'm not sure to have them in time.

I will complete the model anyway.

I do love a Delta Integrale and I do think your chassis looks like a good start, but I assume you’ve put a bigger engine in it as the real car only had an transverse I4.

looking forward to seeing a Delta in this scale

Yes I have some photos of the real Delta engine but I could not figure out how to reproduce it. So I put a V6 engine just to "add an engine". Do you have some suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

Only thing that crossed my mind is to use 4L differential and move inline 4 cylinder engine to one side (and use the same differential at the rear) and wheels look to me about to small...

I chose those wheels with low profile tires to have a "sport look". All the dimensions of the car have been scaled down to those wheels, so at the end I hope they will look right

In that case I'll keep my fingers crossed

You could use the new diff and use a gear mounted direct to a transverse engine to drive it and then a second gear off the back mounted longitudinally to drive the rear axle ... I might have to play with knocking this up out of interest

Yes you are right; I totally forgot about new differential, despite that I was testing it in my Fastrac prototype

:ugh:
