suffocation Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 Awesome excavator Have you got any WIP pictures or pictures of the internal mechanisms? Quote
Flybum Posted April 3, 2020 Author Posted April 3, 2020 Thanks! Not yet. I finished building it yesterday, but I can take new pictures if you have any suggestions. Quote
Parazels Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 I appreciate you made a subtractor mechanism. Unfortunately, many designers ignore this important function. Quote
Gray Gear Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 Very nice looking excavator Are you using the new longer linear actuators from the Liebherr? Also, please add "[MOC]" to your thread title, thank you. Quote
Oliver 79 Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 Very nice. It's huge! Definitely would like to see some more pictures. Quote

I made this MOC after building the Liebherr 42100. I don't know if the real Liebherr has two motors connected directly to each track as in the Lego model. But I wanted a more common solution, with all the engines inside the rotating platform. And not two engines, but only a main engine that moves both tracks and a second engine that moves the subtractor. 54 minutes ago, Gray Gear said: Very nice looking excavator Are you using the new longer linear actuators from the Liebherr? Also, please add "[MOC]" to your thread title, thank you. Thank you Yes I used many pieces of the Liebherr 42100. Four of the long actuators, which are more robust and practical than the old ones. Also all seven engines and two Liebherr hubs. Added "MOC" to the title, thanks Quote
vascolp Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 Very very nice! So the subtractor is inside the rotating platform and there are two axles going, down one for each track. Pictures please! Also show us the tensioner from the tracks. By the way, are you commanding it with the lego app? Since you´ve used all the motors... Quote

Thanks Actually weighs 3.8 kg and came a little bigger than the Liebherr Lego 42100. You can see the real dimensions in the picture I am not allowed to upload more than 0.1 MB, maybe because I am a new member here Quote

ThanksSubtractor: no, if it were inside the rotating platform you would have an asymmetrical guide for the tracks, because you need two concentric axes that go down. So for me it's better: two motors in the rotating platform, one axis for the main motor and the other concentric for the subtractor.Sorry, I am not allowed to upload more than 0.1MB for nowThe tensioner is made from a 6.5 L Technic shock absorber with normal spring. The track axis with tensioner is movable on a slide inside the track coverI don't use the lego app because I prefer to use a controller with the physical stick instead of the touch controls on the phone. So I use Brickcontroller2, a beautiful Android app. It allows you to connect for example an XBox controller and all lego engines, even the old ones 829/5000 Quote

You have to put your pictures somewhere else and past the link to it here. 800x600 max. I use bricksafe, it is cool, but flickr, <whichever>drive... all will do. There is a topic about pictures somewere in the forum. Ok, subtractor in the undercarriage, motors above. Seems cool! Quote
Flybum Posted April 4, 2020 Author Posted April 4, 2020 If you guys are interested, I uploaded a new video of my excavator here: Quote
Flybum Posted April 8, 2020 Author Posted April 8, 2020 (edited) Hello guys, I uploaded a new video to show some details of this excavator. You can find it here: Added intsructions here: https://bricksafe.com/pages/Flybum/lego-volvo-excavator-moc Edited April 13, 2020 by Flybum Added instructions Quote
marini Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 Hello, will the instructions be available for the whole moc? cordially Quote
Dylan M Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 BTW do you have Parts list for the upper superstructure? So i can collect them while waiting for your complete instructions? Tnx I already assemble Track and Subtractor its cool ? Quote
Flybum Posted April 24, 2020 Author Posted April 24, 2020 I am still testing this moc. Lego Technic allows you to do the same thing in very different ways, and I like to find the best one. So I'm gonna take some time to perfect it. For the moment I've made the instructions for the less common aspects. I definitely want to give the instructions for the whole thing, but it depends on my free time. Please be patient, and any suggestions for improvement are welcome. Quote
Flybum Posted April 24, 2020 Author Posted April 24, 2020 I posted a new video showcasing the digging capabilities of my excavator. I am happy with this test. Quote
Flybum Posted May 18, 2020 Author Posted May 18, 2020 Uploaded the instructions for the Main body of the excavator on Bricksafe https://bricksafe.com/pages/Flybum/lego-volvo-excavator-moc It is a compressed file, unzip it to get the pdf file. This is the most challenging of the modules. Instructions for the others will follow shortly. The modules can be quickly connected together to get the model working. I will upload on Youtube an overall picture as soon as ready. Quote
Dylan M Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 That's good news I can't wait to build your beast tnx? Quote
Flybum Posted May 21, 2020 Author Posted May 21, 2020 (edited) Digital model completed. You can find rendering and a summary of the model here: Edited May 21, 2020 by Flybum Changed YouTube url to extended format Quote
mpj Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 Amazing model. I like especially the modular construction. Quote
