myvideo000 Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 (edited) @Flybum and others: While building and improving the excavator, the carrier often fell of since it was only held by pins (step 381 main body). That's why I changed with a little mod. You only have to replace the red 3L liftarm and the two blue 3L pins with these parts (steps 434-437 main body). The blue pins below fit in the three 3L pins with axle connector (step 377 and 378 main body) https://ibb.co/5Lt4KM5 (Of course you have to press the parts together.) EDIT: You can replace the (in the picture) white 2L pin with a 3L pin for more stability. Update: Another small mod idea that I had just now: Caps to top of the holes für the Control plus hubs in the external body. Depending on how you built, you have to rearrange the pins and the liftarms from step 172 on. In the axle hole I put a Technic axle tow ball (https://rebrickable.com/parts/2736/technic-axle-towball/71/), only I forgot it in the picture. Sorry for that. You can even push a little bit in the caps without activating the hubs by accident, so you don't have any additional battery problems. https://ibb.co/GFkxHXC Edited July 5, 2020 by myvideo000 Quote

But I'm putting it on bricksafe as a possible alternative. I will see your next. If I understand your second idea correctly, you propose to close the openings above the hubs with a yellow cover that when pressed activates the hub. Actually I did, but then I removed it because I thought it would be more useful to be able to see the color of the hub's indicator light. Also, the model is very heavy, so I preferred to remove anything that was not strictly necessary. Edited July 5, 2020 by Flybum complete comment Quote
myvideo000 Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 Less weight I accept as an argument. Thank you for the credits in the picture. You forgot to remove the two blue pins in steps 1-3. But I think that everybody can see what you mean. Quote

AussieBrett Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Finally had an international delivery I was waiting on arrive, so had the last parts required to build the external body. The last of my electronics has been on a plane between Kuala Lumpur and Melbourne for almost 7 weeks and with Victoria the way it is I don't think they'll be here for months... Took a quick pic on the way out the door this morning. Quote

onzenuub Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Great MOC, this one is going to be on my to build list. :D Quote
nhk Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 My first thought upon watching the video was 'beautiful'. Very clean panel work and excellent detail give it a great deal of realism. This is something that could very well work as an official set. Quote
Flybum Posted July 30, 2020 Author Posted July 30, 2020 Regarding the tracks, I think it is useful to point out that Lego produces different types of shock absorbers. The one to use in this digger is the 731c06, with soft spring. If you use the hard spring model (731c04) there is an unnecessary friction in the tracks which leads to a higher consumption of batteries and gears. The track tensioning concept is clearly visible in this video: Quote
Flybum Posted August 2, 2020 Author Posted August 2, 2020 Lego 42114 just arrived. One night to build it. It is just perfect for this MOC: Quote
Verodin Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 Thank you for this nice MOC. (and sharing the instructions!) You just provided a good reason to tear up the Liebherr and give this a go. I missed out on the 8043 and this looks like a perfect alternative! Quote
frechettemj Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 (edited) I used the Control+ and white pieces from the 42100 to build mine. I'm still waiting for a few more parts to arrive, though. Edited August 19, 2020 by frechettemj Quote
AussieBrett Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 Finished my take on it yesterday, after a 3 month freight delay. Working great with BrickController2 and a PS4 controller but also used Controlz for earlier testing. May yet change the main body rotation ring to black, had bought it in yellow before I decided to change the body to orange. Again, thanks for the design and instructions. Quote

Well done, I like the orange color. And good to know that you used BrickController2. I have received several requests for help to make BrickController2 work with the excavator. For those who still have problems, I put a short tutorial on Bricksafe. Quote
frechettemj Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 Finally got it finished, and put a proper bucket on it. Quote
Flybum Posted September 29, 2020 Author Posted September 29, 2020 Where did you get that bucket? Is it a 3d printed object? it is really a perfect fit for this excavator. Quote

Download the A005.SLDPRT from the site I posted, find a site online to convert the file to a .stl, then uploaded it to www.shapeways.com for them to print, or print it on a 3D printer if you have access to one. To be clear, I did not make the bucket myself. Quote

Flybum Posted October 3, 2020 Author Posted October 3, 2020 Hello everybody I checked that the transmission to the tracks starts having some problems after some time of operation. Others who built the excavator told me the same thing, so I did a thorough check on all points of the transmission. I finally found the weak point. I have already modified the instructions and put the new version on Bricksafe. You need to replace two gears at step15 and 25 (see figure). If you have already built the excavator, with a little patience you can make this modification without disassembling many parts. I apologise for the inconvenience. Quote
