Siegfried Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 I was looking at the colour chart by imperialshadows, and while I thought it was great work, I felt that it was just begging to be made into a program... so I did! It has all the data from the one by imperialshadows, but it's smaller and has useful features like a toggle-able on-top status so it can referred to while you are using your browser. You can download it from here and its license is Guiltware; that is it's free, but if you feel guilty then pay me back in some way! I realised while looking here that I probably should have added Pantones, but that will have to wait for the next version now. If you want more features feel free to ask. Quote
Alice Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 I'm going to install this and play with it tomorrow. I am currently working on a project and I have been using the colour chart. I think this might be easier for me to use. I'll let you know after I try it and give some more feedback. Normally, I'm the one trying to correct and improve imperialshadows work, but I didn't even think of this. (just kidding of course!) Anyway, Thanks for this. I can't wait to try it. Quote
Hinckley Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 I was looking at the colour chart by imperialshadows, and while I thought it was great work, I felt ...I realised while looking here that I probably should have added Pantones, but that will have to wait for the next version now. If you want more features feel free to ask. Pfft. Way to steal colors from nature, jerk. Will this program work on a MAC? What's with this place? *kicks tires* Wow, I've seen better... Pantones Off! BOOO Pantone. Spot printing sucks! Quote

That's not the only begging I heard ... *spanks the Walrus* I realised while looking here that I probably should have added Pantones, but that will have to wait for the next version now. If you want more features feel free to ask. Pantones. Bleh. It was a big enough chart already. There are some additional colours floating around out there, so if I ever make an update, I'll pm you the new ones. Some dork was asking for Fabuland brown... I'm going to install this and play with it tomorrow. I am currently working on a project and I have been using the colour chart. I think this might be easier for me to use. I'll let you know after I try it and give some more feedback. Traitor! Er, I mean, yes, that's nice that it's easier for you. Normally, I'm the one trying to correct and improve imperialshadows work, but I didn't even think of this. (just kidding of course!) Anyway, Thanks for this. I can't wait to try it. Don't get me started. Pfft. Way to steal colors from nature, jerk. My colours! MINE! I stole these colours fair and square and now he steals them from me? THIEF! Ok, so really, it's a nice program. People should use it. They should send him $10 for using it. Plus it isn't like real money, it's that silly Australian money, so it won't hurt much at all. Quote
Dragonator Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Thanks Sinner, I just downloaded it and it seems quick and easy to use. You are a star! All hail the mighty colour chart! Quote
Lasse D Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 It looks nifty, but I can't help but think how much redundant work we do. I am currently writing a program that also uses the LEGO colors and reads them from the Peeron homepage (for easy updates, but uses a local copy). Well. I'll go back and write some more before another member releases a program that does the same Quote
Holodoc Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Thank you very much for sharing this neat program! I don´t have a use for it right now, but I´m sure I will find useful ... later on. EDIT: I just had a first look at it: Great work - and I do have a use for it - NOW. And, no - I don´t feel guilty. Quote
Siegfried Posted May 18, 2008 Author Posted May 18, 2008 Thanks everyone for trying it out. One of my usual testers (not an EB member, but he is European ) found a Windows 2000 related bug which is fixed now. Will this program work on a MAC?Err... no. Why would you need it anyway; I thought Macs had this whole "It Just Works" thing going on? Pantones Off! BOOO Pantone. Spot printing sucks! What is the deal with them anyway? Are they commonly used? I'm not ever sure if it's legal for me (or anyone) to reproduce their colour numbers anyway. I've been sent cease-and-desist letters before (Novell) and I don't really want another. It looks nifty, but I can't help but think how much redundant work we do. I am currently writing a program that also uses the LEGO colors and reads them from the Peeron homepage (for easy updates, but uses a local copy).Care to explain more or provide an example? Does it do what mine does? Why link to Peeron; does it change that much? What language are you using? That kind of stuff..And, no - I don´t feel guilty. ...and I don't think you should! We are a community on EB afterall and we all give in some way. I see this as part of my EB contribution. I only mentioned the license as I wanted to highlight that no purchase was required without saying it's freeware. (I don't like the term freeware... but that's another story. ) Quote

That kind of stuff.. It is a program I'm making for myself (ie. freeware) written in Java so it will work on MAC as well. It is a mosaic generator. We have seen a ton of them already, but I felt the ones out there lack some features. Here is an early shot where I played with the coloring algorithm to see how it compared to other programs: linky (Notice EB being #2 in my quick launch bookmarks ) It is still far from finished, but it should go public sometime before 2034. Here is how I have made the parser that find all info about colors from the Peeron html page: ColorSheetParser.java It is quite simple and reads both name, name from Peeron, name from Bricklink, RGB, Pantome, CMYK, RGB in LDraw and what the color had for lunch yesterday. In other words. It doesn't do what your program does, but it needs the same information about colors. Quote
Siegfried Posted May 18, 2008 Author Posted May 18, 2008 It is a program I'm making for myself (ie. freeware) written in Java so it will work on MAC as well. Looks interesting. I know very little about Java myself. I used to have a bit on my website for menues but I dumped it all this year when I switched to php. It is still far from finished, but it should go public sometime before 2034. Sounds like some of my projects. Just try to be before Duke Nukem Forever... Quote
