Just skimming the list of artists that Universal apparently has the rights to (based on Wikipedia), rough list of ones that could be big enough to have some sort of representation in this theme (assuming that they do indeed base it off of actual artists and don't go the Studios route where it's kinda/sorta Steven Spielberg but not really).  I also assume that certain artists who either have explicit content in most of their songs or who have a controversial public image may not get put in, just because they tend to avoid that.

Bee Gees, Beyonce, Billie Eilish, Blink-182, Bob Marley, Bon Jovi, Cher, Def Leppard, DJ Khaled, Depeche Mode, Dolly Parton, The Eagles, Elton John, Guns 'N Roses, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Lionel Richie, Mariah Carey, Metallica, Michael Jackson (apparently they only have the rights to some of his music so that might not be possible then), Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Queen, Ramones, Red Hot Chili Peppers (again, they only have some rights so I'm not sure), Rihanna, Taylor Swift, U2, Van Halen, The Who, and a handful of others that are certainly big enough, but may have too much controversy around then (Kanye West) or explicit content (Dr. Dre, Nikki Minaj, etc).

Dolly Parton?! Take. My. Money!

Very interesting that the Universal license seems to have kicked up quite a bit in the past year or two.  I saw something that apparently Lego signed on to have Universal produce any future movies instead of WB, which leads me to wonder if we'll see even more Universal properties get made into sets/themes in the future.  This sort of thing is brand new, we also had a Universal Monsters set with the Frankenstein's Monster Brickheadz, we've obviously had Jurassic Park for the past couple of years, Minions was a pretty new theme...I could definitely see Jaws, ET, more BTTF stuff (Time Train or Clock Tower anyone?) or some of the other classic Universal films selling really well as sets.

I also wonder if this music theme will see future tie-ins to the mosaics, since we got that Beatles one.  I could definitely see some bands/artists that Universal represents being iconic enough to where people would buy a mosaic of them/their logo.

Definitely interested to see what direction this goes in, and if it's something closer to Studios (where it was sort of Steven Spielberg, but not explicitly stated that it was him) or if it's actual minifigures based on Elton John or Queen or whatever.

They also own Virgin and EMI, so they have David Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, Rolling Stones, The Beatles,

They also referenced a David Bowie album cover in a duplo form on their instagram a few weeks back

I guess an issue here is whether Universal own/sell rights to the music and albums or also the likenesses of the artists.

Ahhh, but which David Bowie would we get? I could see a 12 slot CMF easily filled by his assorted guises and personas throughout his career.

I think David Bowie is a given, if not a high possibility.

This theme just got way more interesting to me

If the rumors are true, then we will probably get male artists in minifigure form and female artists in minidoll form... which would suck so so much. Otherwise I don’t see why the mixup of minidolls and minifigs in the rumors.

Where is the rumour from?

It sounds like clickbait.

Instagram of course :P

I think the only reason the possibility of minidolls was brought up in the first place was the set numbers. Numbers starting with 4 are usually reserved for minidoll lines, but there are exceptions of course (e.g. Trolls)

Ahh I see, well I’m glad. Musicians deserve better than the minidoll treatment.

If they are minidolls, it would be a ridiculous and unnecessary decision on TLG's part. I don't know what the aversion is to just making minifigs of iconic characters and celebrities, but between that rumor and Mario, you have to wonder what's going on. You'd think they'd capitalize on the minifig as their most iconic creation.

Imagine if we finally got Bowie, only for him to be in Friends style.

I'd be all for it. Lanky frame, gender-bending fashion choices, made traditionalists angry and uncomfortable... seems like a perfect fit!

A new Minifig has leaked. She looks like a performer/ singer. Any chance she is for this universal music theme? Or maybe just part of the regular CMF. What is the music theme is not based on actual artists but just different music genres. We’ll have to see !

Universal Music theme? It is really strange. Scanning the 2x2 printed tile and music is played? Well it’s a big “nah” for me because I’m profoundly deaf... However, I may collect some minifigures.

I was hoping we would get Universal Monsters.

Keep in mind that no one has come right out and confirmed that the "scannable elements" aspect of similar lines will translate to the Universal Music theme, so you very easily could still find something to enjoy.

"It" is from me. I have reason to believe that it will be an aspect of the upcoming line, and I've detailed more (and why) on Instagram. :P

Yeah, this could be another "Leaf" situation all over again, where people thought Monkie Kid was supposed to have an interactive element (and also be a conglomeration of time traveling pirates/castle), then the Mario reveal came way out of left field and caught everyone by surprise.  Seems best to just temper expectations and wait until we have more details, since a lot of new themes tend to be very vague until they get officially revealed/leaked.

A picture of the new CMF series just leaked and the singer minifigure that leaked a while back is in it. My hope for minifigures based on actual artists has returned!

Well, there goes our hope for real musicians XD These seem to be more colorful and funkier CMFs, I’m sure the carnival singer from the newest series was like a sneak peek of some kind. Or is this like a the masked singer thing? And you find out who the real artist underneath the mask is once you buy it? :shrug_oh_well:

I'm excited to see what this is really all about- the two images I have seen already conjures some of the quirky, offbeat feeling that made so much of the Lego Movie charming for me!
