What do you normally do if you buy multiples of one set?

Do you put them in your parts bins or do you keep them together as a whole set?

I usually put the pieces in with all of my other parts. But I always keep one copy of the set together.

The multiples I buy tend to be Castle sets, so I just add them to my display. Any other set multiple would be added to the parts bin.

I usually only buy sets for the parts, but there have been a few exceptions. I bought both the Sopwith Camel and the Red Baron a few years ago, initially just for the parts too, but I liked the models so much that I decided to keep them together instead. For the parts I later bought more copies of both sets.

For me it actually depends on the sets I buy.

Most of the time I buy multiple sets because I need large amount of many parts in those sets for a project, then the sets will be sorted out.

But if I got hold of multiple set of some rare or exlusive sets I let one stay on the shelf in MISB condidtion and the other I part out.

ALL set I buy I build them once, even build the alternative models if there are any. Then I start modding if I feel for it. But most of the time they just got sorted out.

Well, actually there is ONE set that I never have taken apart or sorted out since I got it: Set # 3450-1: Statue of Liberty Sculpture It still stand in the window on display.

Lek godt!

Very few of my sets I buy planning to never break. I would need to have a lot of Lego to be able to feel that way. Most of the time I buy a set for the parts, not the model, but I always assemble it first. But if I buy a second of a set it's always for spare parts and I tend to leave it bagged untill I need the actual part, and the rest then is sorted.

First of anything is usually intended to be kept in it's original form, unless it's a theme I don't normally do.

First of a new Star Wars or Castle set, for example, I build per instructions or kept sealed until there is room for it. Second one, I pull the figures to add to an appropriate display, then part out the rest.

First of something like Exoforce or the new Agents line, I pull the figures and part out the rest. Every once in a while, I'll like the intended model so much that I'll build it, and sometimes it will stay together as well.

One rule I always follow, no matter what the set. I keep at least one of each figure exactly as they came for my general minifig collection. Same with bricklink buys. If I get a minifig, it stays as is, unless it's already a spare, or I buy two for that purpose.

Depends why I bought it, I have a lot of crossbow attack, but these I only really ever intended to be parted out while I keep the figures. My catapults are together as I intend to use them in scenes same with boats. There are a few I’ve kept in boxes but that’s rare mainly if they’re only sale and I think I’ll pick up an extra one for the future.

Imperialshadows that’s quite a good rule I might adopt that for myself seems a very good idea.

I normally buy duplicates in sales mainly for the parts and then leave them boxed until I need somethng. Then they get put in the parts bin.

I also will buy duplicates of my very favourite sets and keep them for posterity. The original may get broken for parts or stay on display, depends on how much room I have.

I don't have the financial means to buy multiple sets. If I had, I would buy two sets of those I especially like. I would keep one set in MISB condition and build up the other one. There are only very few sets I have more than once. One is the Santa Fe engine 10020, which I have four times. I built up three; one of them is a limited edition engine. All three are still assembled, but one of them will be transformed into a B-unit. This is a plan I've had for a long time, but I still don't have all necessary parts. I just want to sacrifice one engine for the B-unit only. All the other bricks needed for the B-unit I buy from bricklink. The fourth santa fe engine (limited edition) I keep in MISB condition. Since I'm not yet moccing (also due to financial reasons), I don't buy sets to part them out. I wouldn't even do so if I had enough money. I just buy the bricks from bricklink, LEGO PaB or eBay.

I don't buy multiple copies of one set. I buy a set for the model and the figures, but know I am about to start to buy also sets for their parts. And then I could think of buying it twice. I would only build it once and keep one for the model and the other would be sorted.

I do have a set twice, but that was a little mistake (it had good pieces, wings and trumpets and bats!)

You took the words right out of my keyboard.

Unlike others, I don't think I would ever be able to keep a set MISB, it would just be too tempting to open it. But, saying that, I still haven't opened my King's Castle Siege set, though only because I don't have enough room at the moment to put it anywhere.

Would that be a Fright Knights set? I have a lot of them, I don't think I'd need multiples, I keep finding bat knights and bat shields and just general bats everywhere!

No, it wasn't a Fright Knight set. It was this set: http://www.1000steine.com/brickset/images/6495-1.jpg

I remember my dad giving it to me and a few day laters I found the set in my dad's closet (while I was searching my Game Boy my mother took away from me  ). I still don't know why he had two of them. Or it was someone else who gave the first. Hmm. I do know I was proud with two of them.

But I'm planning to buy the smallest Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull set twice. And perhaps the Dwarf Defender. But not more than that.

Most of the sets I have multiples of are all for parts. Hell, actually all of them. I don't have a single set still all together, honestly. Some sets I have up to 4 multiples of if they're great for parts. Sets like Titan Xp, Fire Nation Ship, etc.

Same here. Some of the larger sets that I have in fairly large numbers are the Sopwith Camel (4), UCS AT-ST (4) UCS batmobile (3) and Roaring Roadsters (3). I bought all of those (with the exception of one Sopwith Camel) because I happened to be able to get them at a discount on various different occasions and because I liked the parts. To some extent I can understand people who leave models built up, but I really don't get the storing things in sealed boxes thing. I currently have three sets that are still in unopened boxes and that's because I haven't gotten around to parting them out yet.

I'm not a collector -I'm a builder.

Well, i do multiples sets, just for the minifigs. :classic: & of course depends on the price too as in Malaysia LEGO is quite expensive.

Then the other set i would keep it new. Only open a box or two, sometimes 6, depends on how many sets i multiple.

Well, i left some set new because i feel like display my LEGO with a brand new 1 at the back of it.

Growing up, the only sets I'd have multiples of were the minifig packs (usually the M-Tron era one and the Ice Planet/Spyrius/Unitron one) and discounted multi-packs - the 'one tiny Castle/Town/Space/Pirate' type.

Now, I only buy multiple sets when I have an (a?) MOC already in mind... so it's been Exo-Force stuff, with the occasional Creator or Mars Mission - and I've tended not to get doubles of any of the over-$20 sets. Except for the Striking Venom, for the Frontline Barricade, and maybe - maybe a Sentai Fortress sometime soon.

I just buy one of each set and I collect only star wars. I have a couple of twice sets but that are gifts or something so I just build them and display them or destroy them and use the pieces (the TIEs only) for expand my Imperial Cruiser Destroyer my biggest MOC :sweet::devil: .

Well, for my love of my LEGO. I always have this "bad" habit of mine. Whenever there is something new on the shelves, the tendancy for me to purchase more than two of the identical sets is always 90% chance. :hmpf:

Why? For example, Castle theme. I will need multiple sets of Dwarf Mine Defender, Crossbow Attack, Royal Joust for army expansion. It is to relate to army building especially when such theme required heavy purchasing for making the best army ever.

Furthermore, I will required at least one set open for playing and one set MISB for collection purpose as much as possible for every set that I have. The themes will span across Castle, Indiana Jones and City and sometimes Star Wars. Most of the time, when I buy more and more, it will always relate back to the basic of army building.

In addition, some sets provide good parts such as the recent Jungle Duel. It will make a good parts set. These are the reasons that will tempt me to purchase multiple sets.

Usually I don't buy many copies of one and the same set.

Exceptions are army builder sets (bought four clone BPs yesterday  ), cheap sets and sets I really like and find somewhere cheap. I have some multiple small castle sets, most of them were gifts. And, as I collect Star Wars mainly, I have some multiples of LSW sets, like 3 A-Wings and 2 minifig-scale ISDs. The A-wings I picked up really cheap in some store in the next town and one ISD I brought with me from the US last summer, the other one was a good deal via Bricklink (without minifigs though, but I don't really need them) I saw another ISD for 75€ some weeks ago and I would have bought it if I had had the money :cry_sad:

I don't keep any sets MISB so far, just can't resist to open them and I buy them for what's inside the box and not just a nice box with something inside.

I buy many multiple sets across the star wars, castle and to some extent city lines. In most cases i build the set once and for the rest i split the mini figs into there own bag and reseal parts into a zip bag. Ie for the castle crossbow attack (60+ sets purchased on sale) i have a zip bag full of mini figs/weapons and a zip bag full of parts for later moc's. Because of storage issues i rarely leave a set boxed.
