I doubt you know how to read the market and balance the economics of a new theme better than the directors at TLC. It's never black and white. 1 hour ago, astral brick said: Unfortunately the designer doesn't sell the instructions anymore. Thankfully it's a simple enough model that can just be pieced together from the video. Quote

Berthil Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 (edited) Vonado has copied my design of the Rainbow stepper and is even using my pictures and video (where they black-barred my name on the box), all without asking me for permission. I published it last year on Rebrickable with free instructions. So there seems to be a market for GBC machines and the market is being explored but unfortunately at my cost. Apart from getting recognition and compensation for using my design and footage, I would also be interested to know how much they are selling and where. Actually, if you have loose bricks from sets and can build this machine from real LEGO I think it is about the same price, it's under 1000 bricks. If you have to Bricklink it will probably be higher but you have real LEGO. I really like the marble run, domino, physics design by the way, too bad it didn't get 10.000 votes Edited June 19, 2020 by Berthil typos Quote

Unbelievable shameful behaviour of the brand. Greatest solidarity with you. Moreover I am afraid you are in good company, there are many other sets based on known mocs. 10 hours ago, Berthil said: So there seems to be a market for GBC machines and the market is being explored but unfortunately at my cost. These Lego clones' companies seem to thrive exploiting areas left uncovered by Lego, such as mature licenses or themes often craved by many afols. Food for thought. 10 hours ago, Berthil said: I really like the marble run, domino, physics design by the way, too bad it didn't get 10.000 votes People will understand, eventually. Quote
Pauls Technic Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 Maybe LEGO needs an adult division that focuses on builds for us? Quote

It's true that they aren't typically as interactive as the more conventional products we see from LT, but they feature some of the most technically marvellous function produced with Lego. Just about anything Akiyuki does blows my mind, and a great deal of others. I think pv-productions that Agrof mentioned have developed a particularly interesting niche. By virtue of the fact that they base them on a single kit, they're very easily accessible to a great number of people. I'd love to know the uptake numbers on the instructions they produce. If they want to assess a model's potential popularity they should create a system allowing people to express support for it in an unburdened way. Forcing supporters to navigate to a place they wouldn't otherwise venture and create a login for the purposes of assigning support to a project that, irrespective of whether it achieves it's target, probably won't be developed further, severely biases and restricts their audience. Platforms such as Youtube or social media websites (shudder) are far better structured for both generating and assessing consumer interests of a population beyond the hardcore Lego enthusiasts. Personally, I find Lego Idea's so depressing I won't go near it. It showcases so many truly wonderful creations, each desperately seeking the modicum of recognition of their brilliance that 's offered, and for the overwhelming majority, not finding it. It's like 'Lego's Got Talent'. /rant Quote
