Flak Maniak Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 D&D/Magic are super-impossible because Wizards of the Coast is owned by Hasbro, a rival toy company, who even has their own block-based building toy. So, regardless of brand fit, it can never happen, unless Wizards of the Coast is spun off from Hasbro, or something of that nature. Quote
jonwil Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 Locke & Key would be a great thing to get, they could do what they did with Stranger Things and build the house as a set (with various rooms, the major characters and something to represent the different keys. Quote

I suspect the IP owners for Magic The Gathering and D&D probably wouldn't allow product that might compete with their own stuff. Does Mega still have the license for Pokemon? As for Dreamworks IPs, Madagascar would be nice to see. They did stranger things, harry potter, several DC characters that have done some pretty bad things along with marvel characters. I don't think Elder Scrolls would get ruled out but they could do something like it also. Quote
jonwil Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 I don't think they would do Elder Scrolls in any case, it wouldn't be popular enough I suspect. Quote
cosmic Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 Pokemon! Again a competitor has the license and Lego has rejected the idea before. But if Pokemon was adapted in Lego I would eat that theme up. Lego gyms, elite 4 bases, pokemarts and nurseries, new molds for different Pokémon as well as brick builds for the larger Pokémon. Between the gyms and the elite four and the larger pokemon builds there’s so many sets to make. Factor in the different characters from the anime and games and all of a sudden you have an abundance of ways to switch up the builds for the theme. It has so much to offer in terms of both figures and builds. Quote

We could get hideouts, lairs, ships, large Pokémon, pokemarts, gyms, you name it. Felkin Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 I'd love Lego to get the Pokémon licence, and they could get around the main problem most merchandise has: how do you pick WHICH of the 900+ Pokémon to feature? Not everyone wants endless Pikachu, Eevee & Charizard (just don't tell Game Freak that). Lego could make sets like their Classic building sets with a range of bricks and instructions on how to build various Pokémon, so you can build your favourite (cough Scizor cough), or even design your own using the pieces. You might have an electric themed set with mostly yellow pieces, Pikachu on the box art and instructions on making various yellow Pokémon, etc. I know many people don't like brick-built creatures compared to moulded, but Lego making nearly a thousand new single-use moulds is... unlikely, to put it politely. Throw in an exclusive minifig in each set, and it sounds like something Lego might make. Hopefully, if they make more live-action movies like Detective Pikachu, Nintendo will want to make more merchandise to promote the franchise, and my wishlisting may come true! Quote

bluedog1111 Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 I really want 2 themes to become a reality, 3 to be given a second chance, and 4 to never take up those valuable action/adventure theme slots. 2 I want: Dungeons and Dragons: The miniatures are crazy expensive and it would be great to have a cheaper option. Imagine all the new molds and prints for minifigures (Dragonborn, Tieflings, Kobolds, etc.). The possible monsters are nearly endless Hobgoblins, Mimics, Beholders, Devils (Though that one definitely isn't happening "look kids come sell your souls with our new Hell wave of sets") and maybe even Tiamat. So many great locations are possible as well for those who have castle sets or liked the theme even if you all don't like D&D there would still be some great sets for your Lego castle world. Really hope this happens maybe sometime after HP ends or even while it is still going I know I would buy these sets in a heartbeat. Also kids who couldn't figure out D&D would still buy them because the sets with battles happening in them because they like that kind of set. Halo: I think some other company has it right now (not sure which) but this theme could be a huge success and if they start planning and working on it now then they might be ready before the next game launches you know sometime a few decades from now. 3 to be given a second chance: Chima if D&D doesn't come out (which it probably never will) then Chima would be great instead. It had when it was still alive those great vehicles, bases, and molds. I miss it. LoTR if D&D doesn't come out the sets from LoTR can be used as models for D&D easily enough (1 stud = 1 foot) especially because they both have elves, goblins, dwarves, and many more shared aspects. But this almost definetely isn't happening until HP is ended which seems to be farther and farther away each day which is both good and bad. Castle if LoTR and D&D don't come out then this works though it wouldn't be nearly as good it seems to be the most likely theme on my list for Lego to make (or remake). 4 not to be made/remade 1. Avatar or Avatar the last air bender dislike both and have no interest in either. 2. Anything with magna or anime as part of the set and the story behind like exo force or monkie kid (Can't it just end already? and let something else take it's place). 3. Anything religious. I am not saying diversity and showing other peoples religions is a bad thing, it's not. But I just don't want forums filled to the brim with racist comments and pointless arguments over something easily avoided and when Lego makes sets like that half the people will be insulted and accuse Lego of making fun of a religious thing and the other half will be happy with it leading to more pointless and endless debates. 4. Anything political. I enjoy talking about politics and debating them but not here and with Lego. Lego should not go that way but I doubt they will. Quote

However I would love for it to come back assuming they give up the fire and ice theme. I honestly think the builds went to s*** after that happened. If they invested in new molds for the beavers as opposed to reusing the Yeti mold, and gave us more locations and diversified the costumes and settings these anthropomorphic animals engaged in the theme could really keep itself moving. But the constant focus on fire and ice and useless vehicles made the theme unappealing as opposed to the spiders and rhinos and lion castles of the first few waves. I wouldn’t mind seeing the theme get a second go if they really took new concepts and didn’t spend 2-3 waves on a particular idea. 3 hours ago, MatthewRC said: Okay, I’d like that too. Yeah I could see Lego making brick builds for larger Pokémon like Salamence, Charizard and Gyrados. Pokemarts, gyms, indigo plateau and other Elite 4 plateus can all be sets. Plus team galactic, team plasma, team rocket all have lairs castles and vehicles associated with them. Whether its a battle between a player and an evil team, a gym battle, a town setting or a large pokemon there are an endless amount of sets they can produce. This theme has so much potential and if it sells as good as Star Wars and Superheroes (I feel it could) there’s enough material to last for years. There’s really no excuse for Lego to do what they did with superheroes and make sets disconnected from the source material (spider jets, copters and bikes) when the actual source material is endless. But then again Superheroes has an endless supply of locations and vehicles to support sets and somehow Lego still manages to make content completely unrelated to the theme, so in many ways we can’t underestimate Lego’s ability to brick up (excuse my language). But assuming Lego does what fans want this theme has so much potential. on that note Lego if you’re reading this, stop acquiring Licenses just to produce absolutely everything but what fans want from that License. I promise we want a Titans Tower more than we want a bat vehicle, crazy as it may seem. Edited January 30, 2021 by cosmic Quote
jonwil Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Fans may want some things more than other things (i.e. Batman fans not wanting yet another Batmobile) but fans are only a part of the target audience of superhero sets. Oh and if how fast the AU$300 disappeared from the LEGO stores around me on release is any indication there are certainly plenty of fans who want vehicles. As for licenses LEGO should get, here are some things I can 100% guarantee you will never happen: 1.Any IP that is owned by a company that makes brick product (so anything owned by Mattel or Hasbro including the likes of GI Joe, M.A.S.K, My Little Pony, Transformers, Dungeons & Dragons, Magic The Gathering, He-Man and others) 2.Anything that is based on an existing toy or game (so things like Barbie, Hot Wheels, Rubix Cube, Monopoly, Battleship, Hero Quest, Warhammer and others) 3.Anything based on a movie that is rated R or higher in the USA 4.Anything based on a video game that is rated M or higher in the USA 5.Anything featuring alcohol in a modern context (including things like Moe's) or that feature tobacco or drugs. 6.Anything featuring modern war, modern soldiers or modern real-world weapons (including giving the LEGO City Police or criminals any kind of weapons). Even more so after what happened with the Technic Osprey. 7.Sets that feature actual gambling of any sort (the Vegas set clearly was a set that featured the buildings as pieces of architecture rather than places to gamble and it never included anything that was related to gambling in the set) 8.Sets that show criminals in LEGO city being violent or committing much in the way of crimes other than stealing stuff or breaking their mates out of jail. 9.Sets that show the "good guys" (cops, fire fighters, medical etc) in any kind of bad light or as anything other than fine upstanding citizens of LEGO city. and 10.Any real-world brands in themes like City and Friends unless its a specific promotional set such as the Toys R Us truck. cosmic Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 @jonwil then Pokemon is still on the table bc, although Mega Construx has the license, Pokemon isn’t owned by the company that produces that. So Pokemon can always switch its brick building merchandise. And yes Bat-Vehickes sell but I strongly believe there is a strong demand for Lego to branch out and their DC sets would probably sell better if they increased the volume of new figures released a bit. PRbrickbuilder Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 I would like to see LEGO releasing Godzilla sets, but with brick-built kaijus, not like the JW dinos. They could go for the Monsterverse license (then we would have Kong and the movie monsters), or go for the Toho license, and release the classic designs. I imagine two scales: one with the mixel ball joints, were each kaiju is a $10-$20 set, and one with the big ball joints, where the kaijus are $40 more detailed sets. Quote
spiderfan2000 Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 I'm currently in the middle of rewatching Adventure Time, and it makes me continue to wish LEGO had made an actual line of minifigure scale sets for that license. The Dimensions packs were fun, but only provided a few minifigures between them, and the Ideas set just wasn't what I wanted. The series had so many distinct and colorful locations that could have made great sets, and a character roster that could easily fill out a CMF series, but LEGO just seemed to abandon doing anything for Adventure Time after 2017. I was hoping the HBO Max continuation series would encourage LEGO to revisit the license, but still not even a single rumor has materialized to my knowledge, which is quite disappointing. As someone who started watching Adventure Time in 2014 and even back then wanted LEGO sets based on the series, and was very excited by the first announcement of Adventure Time being in LEGO Dimensions, I've been quite underwhelmed thus far. 10 hours ago, PRbrickbuilder said: I would like to see LEGO releasing Godzilla sets, but with brick-built kaijus, not like the JW dinos. It even makes sense because there are 12 primary characters in EEnE: The Eds, the Cul-De-Sac Kids, and the Kanker Sisters. Speaking of Ed, Edd n Eddy, I’m thinking about making a minifigure-scale product idea for LEGO Ideas! However, I’m trying to decide what it should propose. BrickBob Studpants Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 In terms of my favourite film and TV franchises, everything I was ever a fan of has now been covered to some extent, the last gaps having been filled by the Aston Martin in 2018 and the Upside Down in 2019. Thus, my remaining dream themes come from the realm of videogames, mainly other Nintendo franchises. Mario has been crossed out too (still can’t believe this actually happened), but Zelda, Kirby, Animal Crossing, and Pokémon are all still deeply engrained into my wishlist Sure, the Mario theme is here to stay, but we have no idea if they’ll ever extend the license to other franchises (case in point: Overwatch, which people thought would lead to a WoW theme). So close, yet so far... Quote

It wouldn't be the first theme to seem very secure in its position after the first year but be gone from the market after five. I actually don't think video games will make for good long-term themes, so I'm hoping Lego puts out a few more good ones while they're riding the wave. Quote
