Six Wide Bob Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Hello all Can I assume that TLC has discontinued the 7893 LArge passenger plane as it no longer appears on shop at home? My local TRU has loads left in stock. Bob Quote
Siegfried Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Not really. I've seen sets vanish for over six months and then re-appear later. Even so, it wouldn't surprise me if that set is out of production as IMHO it has been replaced by the freight plane. Quote
Freddie Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 It's been removed from the catalogs to the extent that it doesn't even appear in the background. So I'm leaning towards a yes. Not that I want another one. One is plenty, considering how large it really is. Quote

Svelte Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 It was one of their sale items in the sale Shop at Home launched in January, marked off 30%. It went to 'SOLD OUT' in a few days and was obviously clearanced. So, I'd say once retail stock sells out it won't be restocked - as Sinner says, it has been replaced by the cargo plane. Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 You guys referring to the DUPLO-esq plane? Was its fuselage just one or 2 big pieces? Quote
Freddie Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 You guys referring to the DUPLO-esq plane? Was its fuselage just one or 2 big pieces? If it's the large CITY plane 7893 you're thinking of, then yes. It's fuselage however wasn't just two pieces. Large pieces, yes, but the fuselage was still brick-built. The nose was two pieces, then there was two door-sections, plus doors, three roof sections and five floor sections. Tail is one piece, nose is two pieces, and wings (minus the extensions) is one piece. And then there's the interior, which is built onto the fuselage-floor. Same pieces are used in the cargo-plane, but here the doors are instead fueselage quarter-panels for the roof (four of these equals one fuselage roof-section), which are hinged and can rotate. Quote

Ah yes that's the one! Looking closer I see now that it uses bricks too but the front looks so like DUPLO and from a small distance the whole thing looks like DUPLO IMO. It really is huge, can't look good on the runway. So no loss if it goes, IMO too Quote
jeffjcc Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 That thing is so big and silly.... This may be the best thing that ever happened to that plane: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=3179442 Quote
CP5670 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 (edited) I passed this set up when it was available. The size and scale are excellent, much better than the old planes, but I really hated that huge wing piece and how it left no room for any expansion or customization inside the plane. The other big pieces aren't quite as bad in my opinion. It's still on ebay fairly cheap though. I might pick one up as it's still overall a good set in its stock form. AFOL SF Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 How much was this set? I think it sold for US$40, that is- Retail. I never saw it on sale or discounted price. eBay could be a great place to find it if anyone missed it in the stores. Quote
