Gray Gear Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 (edited) @astyanax I like the "liftarm over flex axle" technique and I think it is a nice improvement. Another place that really needs improving is the way the front wheel arches are not really flowing into the curve of the front Bumper. Those 2 2L Liftarms in the front of the wheel arches just look bad. Something like a 2x2 curved slope could be an option... Edited January 3, 2021 by Gray Gear Quote
Bartybum Posted January 4, 2021 Posted January 4, 2021 I think something that needs improving are the sides at the back. They’re not as angular and inward swept as they should be. Quote

I even have the pieces needed. Is this what you had in mind? Here you can also see how the additional 14L flex axle looks naked. (Actually I don't have enough to cover both sides... You'd need 24.) 7 hours ago, Bartybum said: I think something that needs improving are the sides at the back. They’re not as angular and inward swept as they should be. To make the tops bend inward, it might suffice to use that new panel , which I don't have (yet). Quote

Nah nah I mean the bottoms of the sides. Actually, probably the entire rear needs a redo. It needs to be further in at the bottom, like in a Countach Quote

Maybe it would look better if the black vertical fins were 1M less tall? Quote
GTMeteor Posted January 4, 2021 Posted January 4, 2021 Like multiple others, I was unsatisfied with the rendition of square back :/ But I didn't have the parts, so ... thought of something that goes a bit closer to original with the current parts: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1tj9QGOS_mlxafjQltO_0FE3KJHCu8_HK?usp=sharing Start by removing the panel construction: Remove the two side pins: Redo the panel as shown: Attach to the block holding the lights: Done. Easy way to make the panel angled without any extra parts. Looks a tad better... so... poor man's solution :D Quote

It’s not so much the tail fins (although they definitely are way too tall), but rather the green curved panels that annoy me, how square they are and much they stick out without any swept profile. SianIDK Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 (edited) Hello everybody, I'm new to the forum but not to the Lego world. What you guys do is magic, I'm glad I found the forum! I recently acquired the Lamborghini Sian set + the led light set from Lightailing (https://www.lightailing.com/products/light-kit-for-lamborghini-sian-fkp-37-42115) Everything was looking good until I had to install the battery box Size: Approx. 65 x 45 x 15 mm. The instructions suggest leaving it in the interior on a car seat or center console, but it is huge and it looks really bad. I was thinking on putting it in the front trunk but I will lose space for the bag. Do you have any tips or suggestions on where to put it? Edited January 5, 2021 by SianIDK Quote
langko Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 Widening the hood by a stud each side also covers the gap if you don't want to use the flex-liftarm method. Don't need as many pieces either... It makes the shape in the middle of the bonnet slightly more accurate too. Quote

The only downside I see, compared to the "flex-liftarm method", is that the encircled parts remain black/uncovered. Your solution offers opportunities too, though. Here's an idea for modeling the small air intake at the top of the hood: For reference: On 12/30/2020 at 4:26 PM, astyanax said: Edited January 5, 2021 by astyanax pressed save too soon... Quote

I have choosen your solution to be included in Pimp up my Lamborghini v1.1, which I released today. Once working on pimping up the scissor doors, (and to be honest, the scissor doors are for sure one of THE iconic features of the Sian and many other Lamborghinis so far) I added some further MODs to the scissor doors to reinforce their link and guidance. As a result we now have smoothly working scissor doors, that do not wobble any more and stay in place, no matter if they are opened or closed, even if you turn the car upside down to show its nice internals from the bottom. @jb70: your 1.1 pimp up your Lambo is a pure pleasure to build - not so babylike as the standard lego BI but with a little challenge... the only feature i have rolled back is the added friction for the rear spoiler --> this prevents the spoiler using the full travelpath - but apart from this: my hat to you, sir jb70 ;-) surely one of the best and most elaborated supercars out there and by far the best of your three pimped cars - the packed drivetrains are a pure pleasure... some steps have to build with a slighly differing part sequence but overall the BI is absolutely satisfying! Thanks a lot for offering for free!! Quote
LvdH Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 @astyanax Really liking your mods. The rear end looks fantastic! The new bonnet is a big improvement as well. Any chance you could share the LDraw file? Quote

Given all the flex axles in the rear, I like the idea of keeping the front ones as is. It keeps the style/flow the same. I guess the official LEGO solution would be to cover the black area with a lime sticker? I like your small intake addition too Quote
MY1 Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 I got the Sian for Christmas and I've been trying to get a way to add limiters to the gearbox so that you can't jump from 1st gear to 8th but to no avail Quote

It looks better IRL than on the photo I think -- the latter worsens the color consistency issues even further. And IRL the tiles don't look bulky either; they're flush with the wheel arch and sitting below the 19L flex axle. Still, I realize that for many people this may be too much System in their Technic -- a matter of taste & tolerance. I'm not decided yet on it myself, but anyway it was a fun experiment! 2 hours ago, LvdH said: @astyanax Really liking your mods. The rear end looks fantastic! Haha pretty good! Covers the hole that’s there as well. I agree the colour inconsistencies look way worse in photos, mines barely noticeable IRL. I’m surprised someone as detailed as you left those red 4l axles though considering they come in black Quote
Bartybum Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 Anyone thought of a way to improve the sides of the front bumper, where a bunch of the small panels are used? It’s a bit blocky and could do with a bit of smoothing Quote

astyanax Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 I'm running out of steam with the mods... I was trying some alternatives for the black "fins" at the rear, but no winners. Expand the spoiler for some of my attempts. Spoiler 1. I tried making the fin 1M less tall. I tried it on my model, but it doesn't look better. I think the reason is that the top is still too thick, so it looks out of proportion. 2. The problem with 1. could be solved by using the new panel fairing which I don't have (yet). So this remains untested. 3. Using System pieces one can make the fin slanted while keeping the top thin. Might work, but it requires the new 2x6 bracket which I don't have, so I couldn't test it. I'm planning to share the virtual model via Rebrickable sometime soon. There's an issue though if you don't fix the hose connector on the lamps :/ The bonnet doesn't close fully. At least that's what I experienced... I had to fix it by swapping and places to allow the bonnet to close. Which in turn made the hose LONGER, forcing to use a single 3 long connector on the other end rather than 2 x ... And now compared to my model, I see that I left the side parts in place. eeeh... not sure what looks better then :D Quote
GTMeteor Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 Also, just a rant... The pimped instructions (have no idea about original) USE up all the black 2L axles for the spoiler, where they are hidden anyways, and uses RED 2L axles where they are poking out in black connectors... this... annoys me for some reason :D The spoiler should be using red axles ONLY, and black ones should be used where they are visible :/ Quote

Maybe to avoid mixing red and black 2L axles in the same bag? (I don't understand why that would be important, but that seems to be what's happening...) Feel free to swap them around where you see fit. Quote

Again I went with a System solution, which may not be to everyone's taste. In fact, I plan to revert the fins as well as the widened hood, as soon as my B&P order for 2x (for the top of the fins) and 24x (to thread across the sides of the hood) arrives. Quote
