Doctor Sinister Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Argh..somebody help me please, I can't stop adding new bits to my railway cannon... This is the support Gun Carriage for the "Mighty Lizbet" Rail Cannon. Featuring two turreted twin-20mm multi-purpose cannon that are capable of engaging ground and air targets, the carriage also contains the control centre for the support weapons as well as the main interface for the Railway Cannon itself. The carriages "lock" in place during transit (just by using the interference between a plate and a tile)... ...but they can be "unlocked" to swivel. Alas, I can only get a limited traverse at the moment without buggering up the whole thing...maybe something to work on. Cool though eh? Full set of images here. Dr. S. Quote
WhiteFang Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I am very impressed with the new addition The whole carriage looks real impressive. I wonder how long will your train be when its all combined. The swivel of your cannon was unexpected. It looks real cool and amazing. Can I assume that the AA guns are controlled by the main frame? Quote
Siegfried Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I think I like this better than the cannon itself! Cool! Quote
The Bricksmith Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Great new addition to your rail cannon. Are you going to have 2 of these on the train? One at the front and one in the back to provide full coverage of the train? What about a command center to field the calls and send the beast into action? Quote
simonwillems Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 (edited) This looks very nice, I like how you used the two locomotive fronts to create the control tower in the middle. One question though: When the cannons are being fired while turned won't the train go flying off the track because of the repercussion? Edited May 20, 2008 by simonwillems Quote

No, no worries on that account. There would be a lot of recoil, but not enough to knock over a heavy train carriage. Unlike the Mighty Lizbet herself however who can only fire down the length of the track! Dr. S. Quote

I saw that one as well, an impressive piece of machinery! This summer I was on holiday on the coast of Northern France and saw one of the few remaining real railway cannons used by the Germans in WW II to fire shells across the channel with a range of up to 86 km Quote

Sir Norman Ray Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Nice to see it finally has air cover! Now, what will it do against Soviet Mine Dogs?! Nah, I'm kidding. Those thing wont get close enough. Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted May 25, 2008 Author Posted May 25, 2008 A bit of tinkering, and I now have full 180 degree movement on each gun. Have also made a few other minor aesthetic changes so it's wholly in keeping with the rest of the train. It has proper train doors now, as do the troop carriages: Dr. S. Quote
