I Scream Clone Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Thanks for the heads up. I remember the Space men from my youth as a collector and the old helmets were flimsy. Hopefully these will be a mass release. Lego Men(and women) On! Quote
Mocha Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I am really hoping for the lego police agent released in 2002/2003, the imperial soldier and imperial admiral (the figs in imperial trading post) in the pirate them and.... Quote
jonwil Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Nice set. Personally thought I would have dropped the doctor dude and instead inserted an early castle fig (95-96 or so) between the fireman and the octan guy. Still, if I can get hold of this without spending a fortune (even shop @ home will be expensive due to shipping costs to .au) I can see myself wanting lots of classic space guys (mine all seem to be missing the gold on the torsos). The prisoner dude looks good too and I can always use more Octan guys :) My vote for volume #2: Early civilian minifig from earliest town sets (i.e. not cop, fireman or gas station worker) Black Falcon minifig Pirate captain from Black Seas Barracuda Ice Planet female Yellow jacket train driver guy with red tie, <-0-> logo and red hat. Squeaker Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 This is quite a good idea! I hope to see a return in minifig packs, they are an element vital to children's system of play. I son't think battle packs tottaly satisy this need because there are no civilians or non-conflict themes, maybe this can be a solution. I have a feeling this will be a Christmas special because of the small LEGO logo and odd text. Another interesting thing to think about is the quality of the gold print... Will it scatch off easily of will it be relitively durable? Yay! TLC finally got a clue about what minifigs we want ! Quote
Hewman Posted May 22, 2008 Author Posted May 22, 2008 Will it scatch off easily of will it be relitively durable? My guess is that the gold emblem will be more durable than it was on the old classic space figs. This is based on several modern figs having metallic gold on them that doesn't seem to wear off as easily as the old classic space figs' gold did. Quote
WhiteHexagon Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Shame they have no accessories with them. I seem to recall along time ago buying a few space minifig packs. 2 red, 2 yellow, 2 white with a bunch of accessories. I think that's how they were. They were great packs, and I'd love to have a few classic space minifigs again. Hopefully they put a reasonable eur price tag onto the final product 10-15eur would seem about right? Quote
hollisbrick Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 2002 was 6 years ago, that's already vintage in the lego history Yea 2002 was quite a while ago. Plus that fig was only availible in one set so I can't wait to get him. Definately better than the last vnigage thing I was going to buy, last time I got something vinage it was wine and they vintage was 2006 lol anyway, At last I can get some figs that I can get even though they were made before I was born I'm sure the other Vol. will be great and different themed as well because most of the figs here seem to be city/town. Damn this year just keeps getting better! Quote
Aussie Ben Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 The original classic space lineup came with only red and white, and yellow was added a year later. Black and blue came several years after that and were always pretty rare in comparison. These youngsters who don't bother to check facts... Classic space was released in 1979 with red and white figs. (I ignore the Samsonite LEGO "clone" as they were US only ) In 1982/1983 Yellow classic space minifigs arrived. (3-4 years after original sets released.) Then around 1984/1985 the Blue and Black minifigs arrived. Black figures appeared in relatively few sets, while yellow and blue figures tried to make up for their late arrival by being in a large number of sets. I hope this clears up your confusion on this point. Quote
Nikola Bathory Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 This minifig collection is great, of course for me the best figs in it are the space and the fireman. :) I would love to see some Classic castle and Pirates minifigs!!! Quote
hollisbrick Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Just been thinking..these figs would be heaps better if they had excesories eg the fire man had an axe or something. also these better not be as expensive as the castle battle packs, I doubt they are because the BP's had heaps of excesories and these, well don't Quote

filefolders Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 (edited) LEGO had better give me some red coats if they know what's good for them. *Twitches eye insanely* Edit: I guess blue coats are okay too. Edited May 22, 2008 by filefolders Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted May 22, 2008 Eurobricks Emperor Posted May 22, 2008 Looking good, but I'll wait for edition 2 and hope it contains some Imperial Armada figs, Imperial Soldiers, Imperial Guards and maybe an Islander Quote
Norro Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Am I the only one who thinks of the Octan fig as a classic?! But I smell pirates... God Bless, Nathan Quote
highlandcattle Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 (edited) This is nice! I alwyas wantd one of those mad scientist guys. I just love how he looks! They should have at least included one girl with the old hair:). I also love the classic fireman and prisoner. Edited May 22, 2008 by highlandcattle Quote
Section8 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Since they picked a studio fig for 2002, why didn't they pick the Vampire (with cape)? That is perhaps the best figure ever. The monster would have been a good option too. Oh well, at least it wasn't the overabundant director figure. I view the Octan figure as a classic as well. 1992 was a landmark year for Lego with the introduction of the now ubiquitous Octan brand. The jailbreak joe fig doesn't really stand out from that year to me; the launch command astronaut with gold visor or imperial armada figs I think would have been good choices. For those who want SW figs, it's not going to happen. The reason why they haven't had a straight SW figure pack is because of the licensing agreement. Basically Hasbro whined that minifig packs encroach on their territory so Lego cannot make them. I'd imagine these vintage packs fall into that category. Quote
Draykov Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 (edited) But, maybe you can only get these at the Lego Inside Tour? http://club.lego.com/en-us/news/newsdetails.aspx?id=41126 Well, the tour description states: "At the end of the tour, guests receive a very special, extremely limited-edition LEGO model. We [cannot] tell you what it is, because [it is] different for every tour!" If semantics are anything to go by, I say this isn't it, given that a minifig pack wouldn't really qualify as a model. Personally, I'm pretty stoked about this. A minty fresh space guy (I consider the newer helmet an improvement) is a solid choice. "Vol. I" implies subsequent volumes. Lots of potential here. I would guess this ends up as a LEGO retail store exclusive with an appearance on Shop@Home at $9.99 - $12.99 (USD). I agree with the folks who have said a wider sample of themes would've been a good idea for the initial set...Castle and Pirates are sorely lacking here. I also like the notion of releasing packs that are theme specific...though from a marketing perspective, it might make more sense to mix them up to improve sales and appeal to a wider customer base...essentially, make a lot of people a little happy rather than making a relatively small group very happy. It's more profitable. Anyone who would assume vintage = old gray in this context is kidding themselves...same goes for those expecting the reappearance of retired molds. While I admit it's probably not the ideal mix of figs from most of our perspectives, it's still something to be pretty happy about. Edited May 22, 2008 by Draykov Quote
Norro Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Just to put a fly in everyone's wishful thinking ointment... These are all one piece headgear minifigs. I wonder if visors, and neck accessories are out? God Bless, Nathan Quote

I wonder if visors, and neck accessories are out? God Bless, Nathan It's possible. I think the only reason Red is missing his visor is because his original counterpart used the old style helmet that couldn't accommodate one at all...making this fudge of including the newer standard helmet more true to the original. At this point, the tanks are a mystery, but if yellow ones are available on LDD, it's no stretch to think they'd include red ones here. Edited May 22, 2008 by Draykov Quote
Zarkan Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Am I the only one who thinks of the Octan fig as a classic?! No, I do too! The old octan minifigures are classics, and I'm happy to own two that I got in the Gas and Wash Express rerelease. Quote
Mocha Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 (edited) My vote:Blacktron I Forestman Paradisa Girl (Flowered shirt) Admiral Broadside Aquanaut (Red hair and glasses) Yeah I don't know about the others but definately Admiral broadside! Mabe a few Impeirial soldiers (Blue and Red) too Volume 2: Admiral Broadside Police Agent Impeirial Soldiers (Blue or Red) Islander Achu or Rudo Villano or Senor Palomar (from the amazon - Adventures) Edited May 22, 2008 by Mocha Quote
Flatfoot Thompsen Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Those are just awesome! I really like the Space guy and fireman. Why did they put the mad scientist in there? A wouldn't call 2002 vintage. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 (edited) Thank you very much for that news and the pic, hewman! Interesting minifig BP but I'm not so happy about it: -Space minifig => OK (despite from that space shuttle sets from 1995 (?) I'm not interested in Space) -Fire Man => -Octan minifig => -prisoner => A bit too unspectacular for a minifig BP - a police officer would have been much, much nicer! -doctor => Excuse me but what's that for an doctor? Is that Dr. Frankenstein :skull: ?! He looks more like a psychopath than a doctor who should help people to get fit! I really don't understand why TLG didn't include one of the nice doctor's of the 2006 hospital theme ! And where is the female minifig ?! All in all it's not but not , too, it's . I surely won't buy it because it surely will be five Euros - and five Euros for only two minifigs in which I'm interested is definately too much! I hope that the other volumes will be better!
