WhiteHexagon Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I was looking at my town and trying to estimate the value. It's pretty easy on the big items, but there are so many pick-a-brick additions and smaller sets and storage boxes I'm struggling to come up with a reasonable estimate. I'm pretty sure that the cost of bricks has to be proportional to the amount of plastic used. So are there some metrics anywhere for average value per KG, new and used would be good. Cheers Peter Quote

However the LEGO stores sell by a fixed cup size , £6 for small and £11 for large. You can obviously stuff a lot more smaller pieces in, but if you go for standard bricks you quickly fill the cup up. If you look at the online PAB different colours for the same part have different individual prices. It seems for smaller stuff you also end up paying more by piece than by weight. With all the different ways to pay I'd say it's more guestimate than an exact science that can defined. Quote
Siegfried Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 A recent purchase of mine cost $21 AUD, was 1.1 KG and it was 750 pieces. Another that had more big (and rare) pieces cost $110 AUD was 2.5 KG and 1325 pieces. Quote
WhiteHexagon Posted May 21, 2008 Author Posted May 21, 2008 I think I'll start weighing new sets and try and work out an average. I only have one unopened set at the moment though. 4956 list £35 731 pieces weight: 1.7kg which gives approx. £20 / kg This kinda fits in with my limited experience so far that PAB is a rip off, but those prices might be better for insurance purposes ;) Quote
Holodoc Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Normally at ebay.de used Lego parts sell for about 10€ per kg. Of course it depends what´s in the bags. If there are some Star Wars sets in the auction besides let´s say 5 kg "normal bricks" it will sell for more. I´m wondering that this is so much less than what you all wrote. Quote
