I was just browsing on the main Lego site, when I happened to click on the Troll warship and see it ring up for $79,99 USD! I'd thought it was supposed to be $50, so is this just a mistake? I just thought I should post this here to see if I was wrong about the original price, or if this is just unexpected...

Thanks,

Faramir

I really have no idea..... what is putting me off is the price mark up for stuff. Dwarves mine was 50, now it is 60, people say but HEYYY it's a special edition at a special price!! I say no, they sell it depending on what you can put out, not at a "special price."

Then u have the new space factory set that goes on sale everywhere else but the US.

Then...............they go on and say forget marking up the price, we'll just cancel the sales in the US as well, and so we dont' get the good wizard no matter what price we pay.

Seems to me like everything is marked up. I remember back then, the debates about how expensive the impulses were............now with everything in the mid $60+ no one really cares anymore, its a norm now, a norm that they have set up. What gives???????

Tuesday I found Dwarves' Mine at TRU. I bought it for $50. So... yeah.

Really old sets used to be way more expensive, though. Amazon Ancient Ruins was, what, $90? With about 550 pieces?

Wasn't it just showing up as 49.99 euros on S@H because it was only available in europe for awhile?

Now that we americans can buy off S@H now it shows the true american price.

You think 79.99 is bad? I bricklinked for 99.99 about two days before it came out on S@H.

I almost shot myself.

P.S. I'm back!!

yer well we have to pay 99Aus anyway, and our dollar equals 95 us cents. Go figure :sceptic:

I went to TRU today, price scanned the Warship, and found it to be $79.99. :cry_sad: Sadly, this set really does not look worth it to me. 493 pieces for $80?

It's too bad, I really wanted this set.

I paid the full price for this set and it was worth it, the ship is huge! The MF are great and you get a "good" dragon for the crownies. I think it is a female dragon by the way the eyes look. But this set is truly worth the price even as high as it is.

Wasn't planning on getting this anyway, and this just reinforces it. 79.99? No way! 493 pieces, and it's big because it has those gigantic viking hull pieces. :hmpf_bad: 59.99, at most.

I think we're finally seeing the results of the weakness of the dollar. In the mid-2000s, we were getting some pretty spectacular parts/price ratios (6208 B-Wing Fighter for $35, 435 elements; 10176 King's Castle for $100, 871 elements (including 11 figs and the huge baseplate); Slave I 6209 for $50, 537 elements (including 3 new figs).

These days, however, I think we will go back to the 1990s norm, with ratios at $0.10 a piece or more. TLG can't afford to sell sets here at a discount (compared with mainland Europe or Great Britain, where sets cost quite a bit more in dollar terms).

The best comparison I can find is with the 7018 Viking Ship Challenges the Midgard Serpent. $50 for 585 elements, six figures, and a beautifully articulated sea monster. :cry_happy: It even had a canvas sail.

Now, I'm not saying that the Troll Warship is a bad set, but its price is out of line with what we've paid in the past. Unfortunately, we may have to get used to paying more.

It can't be $50 because it's £50!!!

I was just going to say.. yes $50 no way since in the UK it is £50! I was lucky enough to find this, the Skeleton tower and another small set for about £35 total :)

[Apparently built once and put back in the box, though I await the shipment from ebay to see what they are really like  ]

and €70, so the $80 is still the cheapest you can get, everywhere else the price is ridiculous.
