M_longer Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 42114 Wheel Dozer WIP Another alternate model in the making. Fully compatible with Control+ 42114 profile, with 3 drive gears + blade movement (in place of bed elevation). Working fake R6 engine and two working fans behind the cab. Loosely inspired by CAT Wheel Dozers (834K mostly). It is still a work in progress model, so some things will be changed, maybe stickers and rear wheel arches will be taken off, because it is definitelly not a Volvo Quote
Richombx Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Just finished a few small detail mods as well as doing effermans upgrade of the Centre joint and raising the hood by 1 stud and the yellow panels by 1/2 a stud. Quote

Could even go withouth the fenders? Quote

Ngoc Nguyen Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 I think my mod is fairly to scale now. The next thing to do is to move the articulation point forward 2 studs and maybe move the snout back 1 stud Quote
Bartybum Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 @Ngoc Nguyen Looks much more proportional, but I think you should reduce the max height of the bonnet by one stud Quote

In the official set, the distance from the drive train to the yellow roof is 19 studs. I've just measured that in mine and it is also 19 studs. Quote
Andman Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 Has someone made a digital model of the Volvo, preferably in Studio? Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Previous chassis: Current chassis: I moved the articulation point 2 studs forward, and freed up some space in front of the frame connected to the LAs. Therefore I can move the motor to the space in front of that frame and reinforce the rear parts with more frames. I think this is the final version of the chassis in my set. Side view: I also give up on trying to mod a pendular suspension into the rear axles. The middle axle is the one that is most convenient to be made oscillating. Because it lies in the middle of the body, the structures around it can be easily reinforced through archs above the axle. However, if the middle axle oscillates, it will rub into the long LAs on the side. In the real Volvo the hydraulic acutators are thinner, longer, and mounted higher. The middle axle also bears the main weight of the dump bed. Making the rear axle oscillates on the other hand will weaken the whole structural integrity. In the current design the mounting point is supported by two L liftarms attached directly to the frame that houses the rear differential. If the rear axle oscillates, the mounting point is only supported from the frames on the top, which have to be supported by the two vertical frames between the two rear axles. However, the frame that houses the differential will have to flip inward, which will require getting rid of the two vertical frames. Any suggestions are welcomed. Quote
suffocation Posted November 8, 2020 Posted November 8, 2020 Built it in white just for kicks. Some details are missing due to lack of parts and overabundance of laziness. Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 I took some photos of my modified 42114 in the same pose as the official 42114 and the real Volvo A60H. Compared with official 42114 Compared with the real A60H Quote
benovitch Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Hi, After about 20 years of not building a Lego set, I started working on it again. After the daughters had put some Lego Friends sets together I had to do this. Recently I built this Volvo A60H and I wouldn't be me if I had to change anything. I don't like the use of the Lego Control+ app. That is why I use theeBricklink2 app to control the Volvo. I didn't like the idea of using the gearbox to control the tipper. That's why I built in an extra L-engine to drive it directly. In attachment some renders of my conversion/adjustments. The necessary parts are on their way and as soon as they are there the final modification will be done. I also did the Efferman upgrade of the articulation/steering. In Studio I did all the extra pieces that were needed in purple to see a good difference between the original pieces of the set. Quote
Polarlicht Posted December 27, 2020 Author Posted December 27, 2020 Iam new to powered up and that new stuff! Is it possible to replace the smart hub with the new battery box with the remote control? I guess the automatic gearbox won't shift itself, but i just want to drive, steer and dump the bed. If not, then maybe i do a PF swap. Quote
Polarlicht Posted December 30, 2020 Author Posted December 30, 2020 Or is it possible to control it only with the remote control? Or do you need the train battery box? Quote
curakar Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Has anybody made a modification of the dump bed ? I think the original one is to large Quote
nnamhcab Posted January 4, 2021 Posted January 4, 2021 Has anyone swamped the axle differentials for the old style beveled differentials? I'd like to use the locking guns in something else that would be better off road. Would the old diffs stand up to the motor? How would the drive ratio be effected? Quote

That thing only has two ports, and because there’s three motors, you’d need to sacrifice the gearbox and tipping functions. 13 hours ago, curakar said: Has anybody made a modification of the dump bed ? They’d probably work fine, but you may struggle for torque. I think the gear ratio would be slightly different. The input gear would be 20z instead of 16z. Quote
Maaboo the Witch Posted January 4, 2021 Posted January 4, 2021 From the surfeit of relevant topics posted recently, I'd say just getting this set to work would be an improvement... Quote
