honestly Temple of Airjitzu looks so much better. I just wanted a Ninjago City garden in that style

That style doesn't work with the movie city style. This new set clearly carries forth the movie aesthetic.

At first glance, this set looks like a salad to me.

Upon closer inspection, there is a lot of good here. I think that the main problem is the bright yellow and bright teal used for the top section and the spire.

Despite this set being more reminiscent of the city than the docks, there is no part of the city that looks that florescent and neon-y. The city’s colours are still far more subdued, and there’s no part of them that looks like an alien base or something.

I’m also agreeing with other on the fact that this set should not be called the gardens. This is literally just Ninjago city 2.0 with a tree growing through it.

If the bright yellow was swapped for a more appealing and toned down colour, and if the top spire was replaced with something more akin to the temple of airjitzu, then this would be a perfect set imo.

True, I guess I was hoping for more of a Ninjago-City take on the temple than what we are seemingly getting.

Well... they could cover the baseplate in water pieces and then change the red pieces to dark red. That could work.

Hopefully we get a better image ASAP, just because such a blurry leak is not going to do it any wonders. Really emphasizes the bold parts of the set (neon colors) without giving us any indication of the bottom half.

Maybe they're a placeholder? Although, tr. neon orange, the color of the original laterns, is supposed to be discontinued following 2021, according to this DOTS designer video (0:34).

Kinda surprised to see trans. neon orange go, but with the ninjago videogame season over, the only builds/characters that keep using this colour are MK bulls - I wonder what's gonna happen to them or if they're gonna be phased out completely.

After taking a closer look, I'm still fairly impressed by the set. However, I've noticed some flaws:

Cherry blossom tree looks a bit simple (like others mentioned).
The color choices probably aren't the best (like others mentioned).
Some parts look distracting.

On the bright side...

Many new/unseen building techniques.
The bridge looks great (Assuming it's a reference to Airjitzu).
Awesome minifigures!!!
Should fit pretty well with Modular Buildings.
Excellent parts usage.

To conclude, the pros still outweighs the cons by A LOT and I can't wait to build my copy!

What I dislike most about this set is how it doesn't flow well with the previously established hierarchy between NC's levels. As you move up the city's ''ladder'' the buildings should get more modern but from what I can see it's more of a traditional village with substantial height and a modern piece of architecture slammed on top just to make it a little more coherent with the other NC sets. Giving the upper-left part of the structure a different colorscheme would already greatly improve the set's overall aesthetic imo.

i'm really not seeing the issue: the city's literally an eastern cyberpunk amalgamation of old and new buildings, and the new model pulls it off really well. were you really expecting more garden when you saw the silhouette of a substantial building with a single pagoda? hell, it matches near exactly with the silhouette: blurry pics and fuzzy colors do not a photo change.

anyways it looks phenomenal; i wish i had the other two but love the modern teal building and the vibrancy of the middle layer leading into the old world segment, and the pagoda representing a centerpiece to a corner looks swell as well. if anything, this looks better than the silhouette 5 of you were obsessing over for nearly 10 pages; what were you expecting? did you see the last two ninjago city sets?

my only gripe is that i can't seem to see any indicator of a silver zane representing the titanium ninja statue, but i'm sure it's there and if it isn't the supply of pearl silver & pearl dark gray plain legs and a little nail polish should do the trick.

also rip trans neon orange, that's the last color i would expect to go but i suppose trans fluorescent reddish orange works out in its stead

Agree with this. It looks like a great continuation of the other two NC sets. Will it be as great as the original? Hard to say with the low quality images, but it certainly is not substantially worse.

The leaked image looks strange, and my first impression was slightly disappointed. However, blurry images don't do sets justice, and I'm sure it'll look better when it is revealed. I was expecting the corner to be on the side of the pagoda, and you would have to access the 16x32 baseplate through a little bridge instead of a continuation of the sidewalk. Nevertheless, still very excited to see official pictures, since I loved the Ninjago City and Docks.

I think it looks amazing and will fit perfectly with Ninjago city. Am hopeful tho that it will also look good connected to the docks.

I don't feel I've seen enough to judge or determine I like it yet, but from what I can tell I think I will. The minifigs are really intriguing. I heard that Lloyd is supposed to be kid Lloyd. it looks like its kid Lloyd in his green ninja outfit without his mask, so I am really hoping we finally get that bowl cut hair in tan (both for Lloyd and kid Wu). Kai and I think Zane (and a second jay at the end?) are in their normal legacy which sucks but I expected at least one of them to be like that. I'm 99% sure that gold figure is gold Wu which lines up with the rumors and I'm excited for that. Cole, Nya, and another Jay in casual outfits is great, but there being 2 Jays doesn't make much sense to me unless there are two of all of them which I hope is not the case. I wouldn't be surprised if the suited "Jay" is someone else (possible a grown up purple ninja??), but judging by the order the casual one not being him would be strange as all the ninja are in a row. Other than those (which are probably obvious to most) I'm lost, however there are some both random and interesting colors. I would be kind of disappointed if we don't get any new named characters as this is one of the few sets that people like Cyrus Borg would fit in.

Also is that tower supposed to be borg tower? if so... yikes.

Last post about this to not go too off-topic (and if the argument continues I guess a separate topic should be made) - a LUG member pointed out to me around 1:48 you can see again the palette where some transparent colours (Tr. red, orange and bright green) and transparent opalescent colours also have that yellow sticker, as well as coral having that sticker in 0:34 (353 is the colour code for coral).

Now, unless things are really, really bad at Billund (which sounds ironic as part of their early 2000's almost-downfall was partially due to too many colours/parts) I doubt they'd retire these relatively new colours/effects - therefore I don't think trans. neon orange is retiring.

EDIT: I noticed the stickers have dates on them - the 360 opalescent colour says 2023 while Coral says 2022. So it is possible they do actually retire, just not immediate from next year.

It’s amazing the eyesight of people here, to know that this set is awful from one blurry picture...

From what we do see, it appears like there’s a decent garden on the left side of the set. Of course it wasn’t going to be a 32x48 footprint of just garden. The set appears to be just like City, old world, modern, high tech. It does appear that the tower is a bit garish with the bright teal, but it’s too hard to see accurately what surrounds it.

I’m about as excited to see the other side as I am to see clearer pictures & a better look at the minifgs. I sure hope there’s some random citizens like the previous two.

From what I learned, some colors have a four year run. Copper was introduced in 2017 and lasted through 2020. Coral was introduced in 2019 so will retire following 2022. And I think the opalescent colors introduced this year will last through 2023. I am surprised that tr. neon orange, AKA the color that LEGO has used in maybe every single modern action theme, is being discontinued. Any future NC expansions, including the Gardens, won’t quite feel the same without it.

I think from the few pixels I can make out, it’s definitely decent. My only gripe is the teal it reminds me too much of the Lego Movie 2 sets with that futuristic retro wave type vibe. But I think it should overall be a promising edition and you can never go wrong with 20 mini figs.

From what I can make out, the set looks fantastic! It looks like a very fitting continuation of the original Ninjago City, which is a set that means a lot to me. I liked the Docks, but didn’t love it, and was fine displaying the original City set on its own, so I never picked it up. Starting to regret that decision now...

Someone said that it looks like a MOC, and I dig that. It gives this set its own unique flair, while remaining consistent with its amazing predecessor. I love the vibrant tower and trees here. The little pagoda and garden area, while small, looks nice. Again, I think that it blends very well with the 2017 set. The walkway on the second story with the surfboards and colorful signs look spot-on and I can’t wait to see what easter eggs are contained here.

As for the figures, I can’t really make out many. I think I see Legacy Kai, Zane, and Jay figures, some sort of new Lloyd variant on the far left, a Golden Wu figure, and new civilian versions of Nya, Cole, and Jay again. If I’m not mistaken, it looks like Jay is wearing his casual outfit from Season 5 and 6, which would be pretty cool since we never got that variant before.

Honestly so far dissapointed. But what really makes me angry is that this came out after 3 yrs from the last set. Anyone who want to start with NC has a bad luck since the previous two are riddiculously overpriced on secondary market. This will be the pass for me just out of the protest.

Yeah, I’m part of that group. I’ve been building my ninjago city suburbs MOC to get over it though. My main fear for this set is that it will lack the necessary detail that the docks and the main set had. The only way Lego could get away with it in the other two sets is because they thought the movie would pay for it, enabling them do do ridiculously good things with that wave. As there isn’t a movie now, I’m scared that it will have the average detail for ninjago sets. I really hope not, as I loved the other sets because of their superb details. As everyone has said, we will have to wait for official pics. Merry Christmas everyone!

LEGO always goes above and beyond on details in these big D2C sets, a lack of detail really isn't something to be concerned about

By the photo, the set does not seem any less detailed than the previous two. The only thing missing are some neon signs, which are likely just too blurry to be seen.

Furthermore, just taking a look at the trend should alleviate that fear. LEGO’s CNY line is aimed at 8+, yet features much more intricate detailing than the Temple of Airjitzu or Monastery. And even those sets have enough detail to look great. And if this is a D2C set, which I am not sure of, they will definitely not skip out on detail. Just look at the recent modulars. The Bookstore set used several 1x1 elements in the front.

Doesn’t this happen every time a d2c or regular set has blurry photos? Then when official pictures come out there are all the comments about how the blurry pictures didn’t do the set justice?

Personally I’m surprised that people are not complaining about the minifigures in the set and how it isn’t like the ninjago cmf everyone wanted
