Blazej_Holen Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 So NCG is already listed in our lego web pages (Czechia) :) Interesting full HD pics... https://www.lego.com/cs-cz/product/ninjago-city-gardens-71741 Quote
Modal Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 Any idea what the GWP will be for February? I just bought the Spring Lantern Festival so it may be in my best interest to hold on the Gardens purchase until there’s a GWP that interests me. Quote
Maartenh Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 Confused about the way Lego is marketing the gardens, was hoping for some reviews today or tomorrow... Quote

Its quite weird in general... last couple of bigger sets was interestingly promoted by leaks that was leaked by Tlg themselves. Really strange PR strategy... Quote
GarmadonFan Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 It is up on the US website now, too. Coming Soon on February 1, 2021. NINJAGO City Gardens Quote

There was a promo with a shrine and rickshaw that Ashnflash covered on his channel. Perhaps that will be next month's promo? Honestly hope my store has the car available still but the ice skating rank ain't bad either. EDIT: Nevermind that promo is exclusive to Chinese brand stores. So much for no more regional exclusives. bluedog1111 Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 Anyone else notice the piece on the blue building (third level) with the little cross in the middle? I forgot the correct name but it looks like it might be used to connect future expansion because none of the other ninjago city sets have something to connect directly to it. Quote

I think that might be there to make it possible to change the sides of the balcony on the right. Quote

I'm pretty sure there's something attached to that piece on the inside of the ice cream shop—an ice cream maker, or something along those lines. The Technic pin attachment points on the base and the edge of the upper street should be plenty for a future expansion, and they wouldn't likely add a new connection point for an unreleased expansion because if they did, the part intended to connect there wouldn't be compatible with the earlier sets. The only 2021 set to include tr. neon orange is 80106 Story of Nian, which will retire at the end of this year. Also, note the lanterns in 71741 are tr. light blue. I honestly have no idea why such a common color would be retired, other than I guess LEGO is trying to minimalize their color palette to only necessary colors. They discontinued the classic ice color, tr. medium blue, in 2018, and have colors such as coral and copper on a limited 4-year run. that sucks, strange why they are discontinuing it though. Quote
Fenghuang0296 Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 So we have a complete list of summer set names? The two unknown TV ones are an Amphibian Submarine and a Temple of the Infinite Sea. Which sounds awesome! Also a 4+ version of Kai’s 2012 bike, a Legacy version of the Ultra Sonic Raider, and a ‘Ninja Assault Ship Final Fight’ (or maybe it’s Final Flight) . . it only has 147 pieces according to @Ashnflash so I want to say it’s either a 4+ Possession-era Bounty or a Legacy version of the Destiny’s Shadow maybe? The Shadow seems unlikely given that was a Hands of Time set and Legacy hasn’t even gotten up to Skybound yet. Quote
Tobias_Jay Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 Then there is surely another Legacy set coming out later in the year, unless the Ultra Sonic Raider has both golden Nya and Zane. They surely wouldn’t put them in a 4+ set. I was hoping the Fire Dragon would be a Legacy Elemental Fire Dragon under the Possession banner, putting right the Fire Dragon set we were deprived of back in 2015. Personally also still holding onto that fickle hope for a Great Devourer set for the tenth anniversary year. I love the idea of a 4+ Bounty, could be a really fun looking set. Quote

a guy from somewhere Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 Is it just me that feels like the gardens is a little ‘empty’? I don’t mean the space in between the 2 towers, but the details around the build just feel like there missing? I feel like it has more detail than normal ninjago sets, but it has less detail than the ninjago movie sets. I’m pretty sure this is because the designer splashed out on the latter, thinking that the movie would pay for everything, and with out a movie, the gardens can’t afford much detail (Then again, the price for it isn’t the best in the UK, especially compared to other countries). It just feels like the main buildings are pretty empty, like the tower. Apart from the ninja zone below it, there doesn’t seem to be any space in the top section with the windows? And the museum seems sparse. I’m disappointed in the way Lego handled the sets release, but apart from that, this set is definitely worthy of being the 10th anniversary set (although I think they should of made the overlord dragon the main 10th anniversary set). I really think that we need to see reviews of this set, as it seems amazing, but because of the lack of reviews, we really can’t see this set at its best. This thing is gonna look incredible in person. I know it will. Quote
a guy from somewhere Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 I've just received an email from the VIP program about the gardens, it confirms the release tomorrow. It doesn't look like there's gonna be a press release for it, the best we have are these emails. Quote
Lucarex Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 Notice how they refer to Gardens being “the largest Ninjago set yet”. TLG’s recent size and piece count obsession is getting a bit irritating tbh, beginning with the Falcon and most recently the Colosseum, and as now rumoured the 11,000 pc DS2. Quality > quantity should always be the focus. Quote

Quality > quantity should always be the focus. The whole quality vs quantity thing is something that's been annoying me too as of late. The amount of sets LEGO is putting out and the prices those sets go for have been rapidly increasing over the last few years but the general quality of the bricks and prints and the frequency at which we get new prints (especially for minifigures) hasn't really changed in the last decade. I'd even say they're focussing so much on quanitity that quality has definetely gone down in the last few years. LEGO's motto is 'only the best is good enough' but they should really consider changing that if they have no intention of living up to it. Quote
Maartenh Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 I was hoping for a Ninjago-themed GWP for the anniversary, but I guess even that is not going to happen. Pretty disappointed with the way Lego is handling 10 years of Ninjago, though of course the gardens set itself is great. Quote

This is very true. Something happened in 2019 or so. The TLNM movie sets were the last great quality sets I remember. The quality went way down with Ninjago Legacy’s first wave, and the trend has continued since. Sticker sheets cut terribly, figures with lousy printing, and worse of all, LEGO’s own prints. My version of the Diner (produced 2020) has the worst print application I have ever seen. Crooked is an understatement. The huge demand for LEGO and the sheer quantity of sets being produced can create a negligence for quality control, which is what I fear is happening. Quote
TimotheusFlavii Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 It's now past midnight on the 14th in New Zealand and parts of Australia, but the Ninjago City Gardens set does not seem to be able for purchase there yet on the Lego webstore. I'm interested to see whether the set will be available for purchase on midnight here in Europe. Quote

Say 10 in the morning? Lego hasn’t said anything, and I agree with what everyone has said here. Lego has not handled the 10th anniversary well, media wise. Set wise, it’s pretty good, but we’ve had no announcements, no main media. Do you think Lego will do something on their landing page? Like a 10 year tribute? This is one of Lego’s best themes, and it feels like Lego has almost pushed it to the side. On the quality side, I believe the Lego group is going down in quality, but it’s not entirely their fault. They are having to keep up with the increased demand of hundreds of thousands of bored people, along with the pandemics supply issues. Cuts will have to be made to keep up with the demand, but I’m hopeful that once the pandemic is over, Lego will try and go back to its old ways. I will admit however, the amount of large sets is going up, and Lego just doesn’t feel like it used to. After purchasing the Titan mech, I can say that it does have good detail. I wouldn’t say it’s any better or worse. I think it’s just a case of strain on the supply and demand. Quote
