Release date is still unknown at the moment, but I think it's unlikely for it to be released in January. When the January 1st reveal date was being discussed I was always confused as to how that would work because of lego always releasing a modular on the 1st of the new year. Has lego ever released 2 D2C sets on exactly the same date? The only thing that might make a bit of sense is if the set is treated like another set in the January wave, however, given it’s record breaking size I’m doubting this would happen. I think that most likely it will be treated like Old Trafford, which came out mid January. This would also make sense because it would fall in line with the anniversary of Ninjago. Also, I believe the old Trafford leaks started in very early January about week before the reveal, however since the gardens were leaked so early I’m not sure if we should expect photos quicker. Old Trafford has absolutely zero relevance to Gardens of Ninjago City. Or relevance in general. There’s speculation and then there’s pointless froth without any basis. Just be patient and thankful that it’s all but certain GONC will be released between mid January and early March, and if we’re lucky we’ll see pics a week or so before the first VIP access. Exetrius Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 The Overlord dragon is long overdue, and from the blurry picture my impression of it is quite good, except for the wings. Zane's mech looks pretty great, and I missed out on the original Deepstone Zane, so I'm glad he is included. I am most likely getting the Tournament of Elements set. I want my long awaited elemental masters, particularly Gravis, but the rest of the figure selection is rather good too! We've seen our fair share of dojo-type builds with basic construction, but this one has some neat details. I think the recoloured blade pack works even better than the original jade blades, thanks to the variety, and I hope the 2x6 banners and spell book are going to be prints. Also, I'm really excited for the anniversary robes! I've been a Ninjago fan since the first year and I have enjoyed collecting the ninja variants for many years, but I stopped around the Vermillion season, because after that the prints were either too modern, too simplified, or too inconsistent with each other for my taste, and the printing quality itself got worse. And sometimes the variants left a gap in the ninja line-up, big shame. But not this time, for this special occasion, it seems! Detailed, traditional-esque robes, relatively consistent with one another (I may replace the head garbs with hair or non-specific golden head garb), and the complete team as well, wonderful! Glad they are really putting effort in the celebration! Quote

Oh I remember that as was in a LEGO store either launch day or day after and seeing both “NEW” on display and not being able to choose which to get. Ended up deciding to think it over as was enjoying getting a couple of sets and various bits for my newly Lego-obsessed youngest who was with me. The sad end to this story is I never got around to getting either before they retired. Quote
Robert8 Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 Today CMF S21 was leaked And there is a Jaguar Warrior with a new sword mold that I bet it'll be reused by the island villains in Ninjago Quote
Gangikhan448 Posted November 28, 2020 Posted November 28, 2020 Imagine if they used the original hairpieces for the ninja in those epic battle sets, they kept they're movie faces but old hair. Quote

I'm kinda happy they didn't—not just because I prefer the new hair, but also because this is the first time we've gotten Zane's newer hair piece in silver. Quote

My bad, I was unaware of how two D2C sets could come out on the same day, and I thought maybe it could follow the same release pattern of old trafford because promobricks also estimated a mid January release date. I think I’m just too excited and I need to be patient and wait. Quote
Pulp Detective Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Still don't get why they unveiled the Legacy sets and not the S14 sets.Hopefully we'll soon get official pictures,I'm rather tired of blurry leaks. Quote

The season 14 sets release in March, while the legacy sets release on January 1st, so that’s the simple version as to why. You can see this with nearly every other theme, they’re all missing pictures for some sets, and that’s because they release in March, while LEGO is only revealing the January releases. Same with these other online stores, they put up pictures because they’re getting ready for Jan 1, and March is too far off for them to put up those images. It is annoying though, honestly, that these releases are staggered this way, especially since the other themes seem to have randomly selected which get released later compared to now. Quote

lego_guyon02 Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Proper images of the Overlord set are out, it really doesn't look good. The head is really bad, body too slim, tail too short, legs too large and the wings are both too small and too skeletal. In it's current form this looks more like a mutated Skeksis from The Dark Crystal than the Overlord Quote
Thedarkmaster2 Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 I mean let's be honest the original's head was next to impossible to replicate. Ans aldo the dark crystal is great don't you be bad mouthing that Quote
JintaiZ Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 The new Overlord Dragon looks pretty decent to be honest, but I'm not a huge fan of the wing technique... Quote
HalfBloodPrince Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Its decent, but goddamn the wings suck Quote
Lego David Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 I can't say I am a fan of how the Overlord Dragon looks, but I might end up picking it up anyway for the parts. The molded head and the purple blade elements might be useful for MOCing. Quote

I guess this Legacy set is a throw-back of sorts, back to the days where Ninjago dragons exclusively had skeletal/single-feathered blade wings. Quote

Skeksis generally don't look like a dragon, that's why I said 'mutated' Honestly the biggest mistake they made with this set is trying to make it a $30 set. It would've looked so much better if it had the same budget as Firstbourne or similarly sized dragons. Quote
JJ Tong (zfogshooterz) Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 (edited) From the depiction in the back of the box, gotta say, the dragon doesn't look too bad when viewed from the top and surprisingly, I find the dark blue parts actually mesh and flow pretty well. I dig it. My nitpicks with it is that - it would be nice if the purple skeletal wings/tail swords to have some wispy black paint/print from the sword's bottom to the halfway to make the connection from the dragon flow better, aesthetic-wise. And the body still could use some stickers and print for dragon texture. For some reason I really like the head, it looks nice to me. If only the tongue was in trans-pink rather than solid color. Would've fit the energy blasting vibe better. However, even with clearer images, the front of the box still shows the dragon as horrendously as I remember. Which, unfortunately, doesn't change most of my original criticisms - It still need better shoulders, a wing build with vinyl wings and a whole lot of stickers or prints. That's what I feel when looking at the dragon from that angle. From the top, I'm actually kinda fine with it. Though I'm glad the Overlord minifigure could ride the dragon and the minifigure looks really sick! I'm definitely picking this up since (aside from wanting a Overlord dragons for a long time and digging his color scheme) I collect specific dark dragons and this dragon roughly fits the criteria of what I want, weird choice of build aside, the dragon definitely looks solid enough to mess around without worrying much.
