Lego City 2021 Rumours, information and discussion

LEGO is trying hard to make the new road system work by adding them in a lot of City sets, but I don't think it is the ultimate solution. While I love the modularity, the roads are too narrow for cars wider than 4 studs.

Medical sets usually come out every six years. However the 2019 Ski Resort, which was technically a hospital set - only it was based in the mountains, was released after the hospital which came the previous year. That kinda threw off the balance. This year, we have a beach patrol set - which also seems to be a medical set judging from the labels. So we may see a new hospital/ambulance set. Maybe with Dr. Contageoustein from Lego City Adventures.

The obvious fact that Lego is an interlocking brick system that allows for any build to be altered to ones liking is highly inconvenient to AFOL's ability to complain so it is regularly ignored.

You know, if most people were really loyal Lego fans like they said they were, they'd try to work with what Lego is able to give out instead of complaining. As far as City is concerned, they've given us almost everything we have asked for. The reason why I wouldn't be pushed to its full potential by being given a dedicated subtheme instead of being pushed into town or great vehicles is simply because of sales data. Though tbh, I do wonder if they'll ever try their hands at a television station, grocery store or a post office for City. 

Yes Lego is a very wealthy company. But given that this is a world where the stock market is unpredictable, sometimes they can only produce sets in which they have the ocular and substantial proof that they will be successful.

With this changes they did, Lego can probably release a hospital or ambulance set this summer, a new ambulance helicopter is something my city needs! I already got the 2018 hospital, the set included a big ambulance so I don't want another now, only a ambulance helicopter.

I expect some sets with Lego City Adventures minifigures for this summer. 

I am really wondering about the set 60278, it will include exclusive minifigures? It will be the same thing that appeared on that catalog? I want information about the set so much!

Unfortunately the last ambulance helicopter (60197) was in 2018 also, so it may be some time before another is released, which is unfortunate. I too wish there were more medical sets.

There hasn't been an individual ambulance set since early 2012, and only three others (60023, 4429 and 60204) since then, all in relatively large sets. A new one is certainly overdue.

The ski resort set, which is still available (and in my opinion a very good set however) and the new lifeguard set, will probably mean there is no room for a proper medical set.

Again, as I don't have the 2018 hospital, and as I am currently working on a hospital moc, I would certainly appreciate at least some type of hospital/ambulance set. But as previosuly said, the balance has kind of been thrown off, so there is certainly a possibility.

Medical sets are quite rare in city,we only had one medical subtheme in 2006 and then ambulances started to be part of the great vehicles and hospitals turned into summer sets, I wish for a new medical subtheme, I want more than just a ambulance for my city, I have a lot of police stations and police vehicles(police is my favorite subtheme btw) and I need more than that, most part of these new city sets are what I really need for the city, I have a lot of vehicles but very few buildings and I prefer to buy new sets instead of buying used ones.

My favorite subthemes are the Towing subtheme from 2009 and the Nitro Wheels subtheme from last year. I work on cars so that's why. I also drive a bus part time (though I plan to resign soon) and a subtheme that I have been wanting for a long time was one based on the public transportation system.

I agree. Rescue themed sets seem to have taken a back seat in favor of all the town stuff that we have gotten this year. I'm stoked.

Yeah, you said it so much that I started thinking about a new subtheme based on public transportation, in my city display I only have a train(set 60051) and I really want more public transportation vehicles, I really like Lego buses(when I was a kid I was going by bus so much) I didn't get the 2017 one because here where I live the nearest stores don't have expensive sets(especially city squares)the most expensive set I saw on shelves was the downtown fire brigade, and public transportation sets don't appear in any shop nearby, the main square set is the most difficult thing to find here in Portugal because we don't the Lego shop, only the website in portuguese.

So if LEGO does a public transportation subtheme soon, it will be very cool. 

@Brandon Peawhat do you want for a public transportation subtheme?

If Lego doesn't know that there are customers out there who want one, Lego won't do it. Let them know. Yeah I only have one Lego bus and that one is from the 2017 bus set. When I get my hands on main square, I'd have the yellow tram too.

Likely to be made: 

• A taxi/ride share based 4+ set with a small car, stop, driver and civilian. 
• A short line set with a mini bus and a shuttle bus 
• A local passenger service set that includes a regular bus and a bendy bus. This would probably be the $100.00 set of the subtheme. 
• A motor coach set with tourists. 
• For the base set, A transit terminal with road plate to accommodate a bus and a track area for trains. Includes a taxi van and a teeter totter truck. 
• Rapid Transit Train set
• Taxi Station

Less likely to be made 

• A school bus set with a schoold building that about the same size as the burning building from the downtown fire brigade set. 
• A gondola that resembles the ones you'd see in the mountains. 
• An automated people mover that you see at airports 
• A subway barn or trolley barn 
• A train wash 
• A bus wash 

Those are pretty much my ideas of a public transportation subtheme.

What about a tram set that's like the standard train set but utilizing new versions of the new road plates or new tracks compatible with the new plates?

A blue bus seems cool, I really like your ideas for a public transportation subtheme, as I mentioned before I want a bus station, like this

LEGO almost certainly knows there are people who want more public transport sets.but the fact that LEGO hasn't made more of them suggests that LEGO doesn't think they will sell (and presumably has some sort of evidence to back that up based on market research etc)

I absolutely want more public transit sets (I own the red bus from 2013, the 2010 public transport set with the blue tram and green coach, the yellow bus from the City Corner set, the 2017 bus station plus a number of bus stops and things from various sets as well as various passenger trains) but how many kids will walk into the store and pick the bus or the other public transit stuff instead of picking the fire truck or the race car or the helicopter?

I agree that there could - and should - be more public transport sets, especially with the new emphasis on road this year. I also agree that there is demand and that the set suggestions above would seem likely if a dedicated theme was released.

Unfortunately I think it will be sidelined - similarly to healthcare-related sets - for this year, and probably continually into the future.

It would be good to have a ferry set, such as a passenger ferry, with a small wharf and maybe a water taxi included in the set. It wouldn't be impossible since we have already had vehicle ferry.

I own the 2013 and 2010 buses, but unfortunately the 2013 one, as well as the 2017 one neglect the fact that some buyers will want right hand drive buses, and while I don't care about having to alter the build to make it right hand drive, the door pieces in some buses make it impossible to do so, unless you want the doors to open the other way. Hopefully that may be thought of in the future.

I also hope there is some more congruence with bus stop signs in the future, to match the compatibility provided with the new road plates. The only two that partially match are the 2013 Town Square and 2015 City Square.

IMO https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=15210pb020 is the best bus stop sign they have done and it would work good with the new roads no problems (the same as e.g. the street lights or the pedestrian crossing sign or traffic lights or whatever)

I agree, Lego did all kinds of boats:police boats, fire boats, cargo ships, coast guard boats and ships, yachts....they never did a passenger ferry, I want one! 

Speaking of boats I just got the 2020 ocean exploration ship for a good price of 100 euros! And free shipping!
