TeriXeri Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 (edited) List is here, before we start posting individual sets over and over : https://www.promobricks.de/lego-city-2021-neuheiten/109017/ 60290-60292 are part of the My City line, 60304 is the My City road expansion, so certainly more summer sets could be expected using streets/buildings to connect to it. First thoughts, I think it's good to see more location sets in City, I'm interested how the Creator 3-in-1 buildings will integrate with this. Also would be nice to see an Xtra set with traffic signs, even if it's a blank one with a sticker sheet. 2017 had this set 40170 which basicly evolved into Xtra, so Xtra and City are certainly linked to eachother, 853921 Xtra Stickers very City focused as well. The Island Chronicles Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 @TeriXeri That's the joy of no more City subthemes. More freedom for the creators and designers. Quote
Powered by Bricks Posted September 19, 2020 Author Posted September 19, 2020 @TeriXeri so the "my city" sets have road pieces? Quote

Maybe not full roads in each set but I can certainly expect expansion/connectivity elements like perhaps sidewalks, traffic signs, or parking area. A sidewalk doesn't need to be complicated, as seen the last City townhouse of 2010 or 3-in-1 sets, Edited September 19, 2020 by TeriXeri Quote

I hope so, I just hope they don't corner themselves too much into LEGO City Adventures for 2021 (Season 3 isn't confirmed but not denied either), as in Repeating the same characters. But there certainly are still some unseen interesting characters that could be made into minifigs like Shirley Keeper, could easily fit in a street with a garbage can. I agree- My kiddo was stoked to get his first Duke Detain- much like his older sister was ecstatic to get her first Emmett. Now we have 97 Emmetts and he no longer as special. From a kid perspective as well as an adult's there is risk in never innovating. Quote

It was called Juniors. I prefer them being incorporated into each theme as it makes them more "normal" for those younger kids. Quote

But like @TeriXeri just said, they won't release a proper garbage truck until that one has been discontinued. But if 4+ was its own theme - there would be no need to wait. Quote

But if 4+ was its own theme - there would be no need to wait. Maybe there's some hope, 2015 had Juniors Garbage truck, while City got one in 2016, so both were on shelves for about 11 months during 2016. But there has been no non 4+ Garbage truck since for some reason, this 4+ one is nearing it's 2 years of being sold, which was the case for the 2015 set. Not sure why the 2016 normal garbage truck retired after less then a year. I do think a Garbage truck set for summer 2021 would make sense if they want to release a Shirley Keeper fig (or maybe one is part of City Center, we don't know). 2020 had the street sweeper, sort of functions as a mini-garbage truck, but not the exact same, as Town/City has it's seperate history of sweepers on shelves together with garbage truck sets, even in the same release years. Wouldn't surprise me if 60284 (Construction Truck?) is a 4+ Truck again, as it's listed as only 58 pieces, but that might make the 4+ garbage truck a bit more likely to retire. One of those 2 Fire Trucks likely is a 4+ set as well, especially the €20 set with less then 100 pieces, same price range as the 2019 Garbage Truck. And as for previous thoughts, I think the Beach set is actual rescue-Quad and not a Squad, probably a quad with a small trailer with either a Jetski or Stretcher, which are seen in real life , but also in other toys like Playmobil. I just don't like those 4+ chassis pieces which is why I don't buy the sets. It's likely a construction flatbed truck which could be fairly simple. Edited September 22, 2020 by TeriXeri Quote

I mean, just this summer, they released both 4+ and "standard" City airport sets, City submarine sets, and Avengers tower sets. Likewise, they released a new City service station this January, even though the 4+ one from August 2019 was still available. So it certainly seems that they have just as much flexibility with that type of stuff now as they did when Juniors was a separate theme. Quote

Good point and yes I agree that Lego does seem to be a little more flexible when it comes to releasing stuff and considering that subthemes will be practically dead in 2021 (the sets just being random releases similar to the City Center era of the late 90s and early 2000s), I'd hope that that flexibility will be extended even farter. But service station and airport are subjects that are kinda guaranteed in the City theme just like any emergency related set. Garbage trucks on the other hand, especially a good one like that ones in 2007, 2012 and 2016 are rare to find in City so obviously they don't really appeal to kids that much. Therefore Lego has to be careful when putting those sets out there. That's kinda why I agreed with Teri on what he said. So that's kinda one of those things where. "We have to get rid of one to bring in another" type of things. Side Note: Should we really call the one from 2019 a garbage truck? That one looked more like a dump truck than a garbage truck. I mean, yes it is a 4+ set for preschool aged children. Bug it could've had a better back end. Edited September 22, 2020 by Brandon Pea Quote
