I will actually "repaint" my own GT-R to blue color, the bricks are alreday ordered. But a lot of the bricks I'll use will not be LEGO, LEGO does not have many bricks in blue color :sceptic:

As in the dark blue from the rear of the Bugatti? Or some other brighter blue?

Im a massive fan of the R34 Skyline GTR. Since the body styles are quite similair, I think you could just modify the r32 a bit and make it into an r34. I would love to know if you have a file that can be imported into Stud.io so i can mess around with it.

@OnyyX I am not a fan of modifying a car to look like a different one. The result will always be better if you start from 0. Of course you can carry over transmission, suspension and other tech, but that's it.

Doing small modifications like swapping the front and rear bumper on the R32 will not make it a R34. That might have worked in a smaller scale, but not in 1:8 scale. The R34 has different bodylines and is a bit taller in general, especially at the rear.

Imo the entire bodywork would have to be made from zero to create a R34 that looks good. But the frame of my R32 does seem to fit well, the wheelbase might have to be adjusted slightly, but that should be about it.

I might do the R34 sometime in the future myself, but definitely not before I can figure out how I can fit 4 wheel steering into the R32's transmission

@Gray GearMm, I guess you're right. The rear definitely is higher at the back. You could definitely keep the gearbox(once you add the 4 wheel steering) and the engine as they are pretty much the same.

In terms of looking at 4 wheel steering, I think you could get some inspiration from the Technic 8880 set. I think that the steering angle on the rear wheels is a bit less though but thats up to you. Very optimistic idea i believe.

I have "repainted" my Nissan GT-R MOC to the iconic "Calsonic Blue", as a nod to the legendary Calsonic JTCC racecar.

I also made a video showing the rebuild of the car, sped into 5 minutes :classic:

And a JDM squad picture

I had a lot of fun making this, and I hope you like it too!

@Gray GearWow, what a difference. That blue really stands out compared to the black. The wheels actually look pretty cool with the gold wheels which is quite unexpected. It reminds me a lot of a bayside blue R32 GTR that I saw at a Japanese car show back in February:

I watched the video and I have a few questions:

1. Will you be experimenting with different wheels(I think this is an obvious yes but good to ask anyway)

2. Will you be putting a calsonic sticker sheet on it (Probably yes as well)

3. That part where it was showing the excel spreadsheet, was that a parts list for Lego or Aliexpress and where the blue parts Lego or other. I would love to know how you bulk bought all the blue parts (If it wasn't from Bricklink) as it would be very useful for some other builds of mine.

Sorry for asking such abstract questions but I am quite curious

Thanks

Wow, it was already a beauty in black, but this vibrant blue colourscheme is something else  the wheels look much better with it as well, any chance for the actual livery stickers?

Great bg music on the video as well!

@AussieBrett @syclone Thank you for your nice words

I will try, but sadly there are not many 1:8 wheels available, and even less that fit JDM cars... For now the RX-7 needs new wheels most urgently I think. The porsche wheels look fine in person, but you can see on the pic what happens when you photograph black wheels :hmpf_bad:

No stickers on my MOCs, period. I just love the color, this kind of blue was always my favorite ever since I was a kid, but this car does not try to be the calsonic racecar. Wrong Turbo system, wrong exhaust, wrong wheels.

I bought all the blue bricks needed in one batch from GoBricks, a chinese Brick manufacturer that has pretty good quality. It is like Bricklink, but the only seller is the manufacturer. Mould King and some other Brands also use GoBricks pieces. I paid ~85EUR for ~1500 pieces needed. Admittedly a lot of them were pins or other small bricks. If there is intrest I might make a YT tutorial how to order from GoBricks, as the process isn't exactly simple to explain.

@Gray GearI guess you could have a snoop around on Aliexpress for some 1:8 wheels but like you said there isnt much around for JDM cars. A much more expensive but worth it option would be 3D printing, but you need a printer and some good skills to figure that out. I'm sure you have seen the 'Technic rims" website (Just in case: https://technic-rims.com/collections/all) and you could re purpose some of those but they are mostly exotic and sports car rims, not suited for 90s Japanese cars.

The sticker thing is understandable as I do all mine with a4 sheets of paper that I cut out. Its a long ad tedious process and tbh the paper is too thick and I need to find out how to make proper stickers. The blue really does look excellent, after having seen it for some time, ive never seen a lego model that makes me go 'wow' so many times in a row.

I did some research and came across that "Guide to buying loose bricks" for Gobricks. I may or may not end up using it but Gobricks is such a useful alternative for something such as changing the body colour on a a car.

Wow this looks awesome! I much prefer the blue over the black (not that the black was bad at all) but the blue really pops. Great shot with your other 2 cars as well

I recently recieved and built my version of your MOC and I must say what an absolute masterpiece

I will admit, I bought mine off of Aliexpress as to buy the real lego parts would have cost me upwards of two grand AUD. However I did pay for the instructions from rebrickable as the link the seller sent me was a bit shady and I didn't trust it, and I would have rather supported you in the best way I could.

Anyways, in terms of the car, I love it, so damn much. It is so unique in the Lego car scene as I have only been able to find one other MOC besides my own 1:16 one that resemble an r32 GTR.

The model has such a presence against all my other models and the black spec with gold wheels looks so good, I turned it into my drift car in Forza Horizon 4. The build was enjoyable and exciting, everything fits together so well and there are some absolutely amazing building techniques. Unfortunately, thanks to the quality of Chinese bricks, my gearbox doesn't work because there isn't enough friction between an axle connecting the front wheels to the differential, so it slips all the time, but it doesn't bother me at all. The gear shifting mechanism adds to its uniqueness as it is the first working Lego manual gearbox and it made some of my family members really go wow. The message on the step when attaching the battery cables gave me a good laugh, but the cable I was given is too long so I was able to use some tweezers to get it through, but it now hangs on the ground. On the topic of the parts, I wasn't given any wheel arches so I did have to message the seller and they are on their way (hopefully they are the right size), the gear box parts used on the exhaust are yellow and the tail lights are grey so I will have to paint them. Once I had finished the gearbox I soon also realised why it has been such a hassle to add 4 wheel steering in that section. If I could suggest anything, I would say you might be able to add it underneath the boot as its quite empty. The front end is great, extremely accurate and the engine is also extraordinary but trying to connect the intercooler pipes to the front end was a nightmare for me. Another nightmare was when somehow after I finished the car, the gear stick was incorrectly aligned and basically stuck, even though it was in the right way when I built it.

But once again, what an absolutely amazing model and I endorse any Japanese sport car 1:8 models as there are barely any in the Lego community.

Well done and I hope your next model is just as good.

(I will post photos here, on Instagram(Ben.Camo24) and on rebrickable once I finish the tail light mods and get my wheel arches)

At first I was clearly not appealed in this model (not really my type of car), but I have to admit that every time I have stumbled on it (here or on Rebrickable), my interest has grown a little more, thus becoming really admirative on how this MOC is close to the reality and how all the functions seem so smoothly implemented. I have just checked how much the parts would cost me (around 400€) and I will not invest as much for it now, but who knows in the future... anyways congratulations for your work, the result is really impressive !

@OnyyX thank you for your extensive comment! I guess it is no surprise that an australian likes my little Godzilla

Aliexpress sellers that steal MOCs are way worse than brands stealing MOCs. The Aliexpress sellers don't even care if the MOC will work in the end, or if the Bricks are even the correct color :sadnew:

I recommend you buy the bricks seperately from GoBricks next time. I think a MOC like this should be possible for ~200€. And GoBricks has very good brick quality, so the MOC will work good too

I buy most of my bricks from GoBricks, and they even make things like the blue color seen above possible :pir-love: (and honestly I don't think I could afford this hobby with only buying LEGO )

PS: I might have a solution that can fix your front diff problems. I'll make a model in LDCad.

@Celeri Thank you :blush:

@Gray GearYou are damn right when talking about Aliexpress sellers not caring about the final product, most of the stuff I have bought has been good, but technic stuff just gets trashed with missing parts and a bunch of mismatched colours.

The only reason I haven't really used Gobricks is because its fairly foreign to me and takes a bit of work to order the parts you want. And of course you HAVE to buy a set with your parts as well but I guess they got to make money somehow.

Thankfully you made the differentials easily accessible so it won't be hard to swap a real lego one in there to hopefully fix my problem. I was also going to say that the steering angle is a bit harsh but I realise its a limit of the bricks, not the design. But thankyou for putting HOG steering on there, Lego should take notes:wink:

Just waiting for those guards now, bought them yesterday and shipped the same day so fingers crossed they are here soon so I can take some photos.

Good luck on making 4 wheel steering if you ever go through with it:thumbup:

I dont know where you got that idea, but I have  bought a custom selection of bricks from GoBricks multiple times, and nothing else, no problem. Only problem is that you need an agent to ship it outside of china. And you are right, making the Parts list GoBricks ready is a bit of work, but believe me, it is worth it

Yes sadly the steering angle is limited by the U-joints max angle. so even when using less wide wheels a better steering angle is impossible for a AWD system :sceptic:

I swear it said on the main page of "How to order from Gobricks" that you have to have a set ordered with it, and I guess that idea was reinforced when I saw that you got the Hoonicorn set along with the blue parts for the calsonic version. I will definitely give it a go though, as there are some recolours of some of my cars that I would like to do.

Are there any other potential colours that are 100% possible with parts via Gobricks?

I had a little looksie and tried to find parts in that red colour I was after, but some weren't available so that was shut down real quick.

You need an Agent to send the bricks to you (PM me if you need contacts). He can get you just the bricks.

Other colors for the my GT-R are definatelly possible. White, blue(obviously), yellow and red should be possible with all the pins and axles in the correct color. Other colors might be possible too, but idk.

If you want I can export you a parts list with all the bricks (not pins&axles tho, I just order a bunch) that are needed for a "repaint". The repaint cost me ~85€ total.

Posted

I'd love the parts list yes thanks. I'll decide whether or not I'll order them if I can get all the parts in certain colours and I'll ask you for those contacts.

@OnyyX This is an alternative version of the front driveshafts, used on both sides. The black piece is a generic rubber o-ring that prevents the axle from sliding out of the diff. This should work even with bad quality bricks.

Send me a PM with your E-Mail adress and I'll provide you with the parts list when I have time :classic:

Instagram really compressed the photos so sorry for the bad quality.

I did remove the bonnet scoop and add stickers on my car as I thought it looks a bit cleaner.

Hope you like it!!
