July 8, 200519 yr I could be and hope I'm wrong, but I would guess that the part selection would be pretty limited. If any of you have ever visited LegoLand's bulk "pick-a-brick" shop, this is what I'm picturing. I just can't see Lego having that many pieces available for orders of single pieces. - but I hope this is not the case.
July 8, 200519 yr Governor I alsos share The Bricksters scepticism... It would be great to have every brick released in the past 5 years available for purchase individually, but that sounds too good for LEGO to do. I hope we're both wrong.
July 8, 200519 yr I'm afraid I'll have to side with the skepticism. It's probably just an online pick-a-brick, using leftover pieces, trying to make some extra profit. I doubt they're gonna put Bricklink out of business (which is exactly what they'd do if it was the idealized view).
July 8, 200519 yr Governor Yes, we do thank Rutmar for his contribution - make no mistake about that! Has anyone else contacted LEGO Direct yet to see if they get told the same thing. Too bad if the operator Rutmar was talking to had the wrong information!
July 8, 200519 yr I doubt they're gonna put Bricklink out of business (which is exactly what they'd do if it was the idealized view). If the claim that TLC will only be offering pieces from the past 5 years is true, then there is no way this could happen... bricklink is here to stay... like any local Flea Market, but just for LEGO... :-D Life is Good.
July 8, 200519 yr Governor LEGO would have to start reproducing colours and pieces for the past 30 years or so if they wanted to compete with BrickLink! I can't see that happening. Even if they do sell all pieces dating back to the past 5 years its going to free things up on the second hand market a little bit.
July 8, 200519 yr much depends on: 1) price of every piece 2) posting and handling costs 3) total time of transaction it's hard to imagine that lego will be able to compete with bricklink shops... i'd also like to see the list of parts, but as many others, i think it's going to be quite limited. it sounds to me that they're just trying to get rid of stock here's another problem: people from Belug bought parts directly from lego a while back and there were many mistakes in what they all received. some got the correct part but in a wrong color, others didn't get the number of pieces they asked for... they were really sloppy... i also don't see any news about this on lego.com, even tho it's less than a month away...
July 8, 200519 yr Governor Would LEGO put something on LEGO.com to promote it first? Unless of course they're still ironing the bugs out and it might be delayed more. Or it might not be true at all!
July 8, 200519 yr here's another problem: people from Belug bought parts directly from lego a while back and there were many mistakes in what they all received. some got the correct part but in a wrong color, others didn't get the number of pieces they asked for... they were really sloppy... You think this has anything to do with the many new colors TLC has added in the past few years :D ? I find a certain sense of irony in that... ;) Life is Good.
July 8, 200519 yr Would LEGO put something on LEGO.com to promote it first? Unless of course they're still ironing the bugs out and it might be delayed more. Or it might not be true at all! well, if it's true, you'd think they make some noise about it...
July 8, 200519 yr Would LEGO put something on LEGO.com to promote it first? Unless of course they're still ironing the bugs out and it might be delayed more. Or it might not be true at all! well, if it's true, you'd think they make some noise about it... Unless of course it IS overstock that they are just trying to get rid of... then there would be no real reason for TLC to promote it... except for us LEGOfanatics... :-D Life is Good.
July 8, 200519 yr Governor But still... We'd have to find out about it somehow. They wouldn't expect us to find out because some random person rang up and they informed this person they were planning to do this, in the hope this person relayed the information to other LEGOfanatics.
I find a certain sense of irony in that... ;) Life is Good. i'm not really sure what's going on, but based on the communication they've put on their website, it's been quite an ordeal to get the parts. for instance, it seems the list with orders has been lying around in TLC's production hall for a month... they found it again after an email of the organisor... not very promosing, is it?
July 8, 200519 yr Governor i'm not really sure what's going on, but based on the communication they've put on their website, it's been quite an ordeal to get the parts. What communication is this? Do they have a news section or something? I haven't really looked lately...
July 8, 200519 yr no... belug is the belgian website for legofans, like the other national websites. they've got a topic in their forum called "bulk orders" which is basically a question from one person to the other members if they're interested in buying parts directly from lego. all communication on this subject between members is posted on that forum... it's in dutch, so you won't be able to read it anyway
July 9, 200519 yr much depends on:1) price of every piece 2) posting and handling costs 3) total time of transaction it's hard to imagine that lego will be able to compete with bricklink shops... i'd also like to see the list of parts, but as many others, i think it's going to be quite limited. it sounds to me that they're just trying to get rid of stock here's another problem: people from Belug bought parts directly from lego a while back and there were many mistakes in what they all received. some got the correct part but in a wrong color, others didn't get the number of pieces they asked for... they were really sloppy... i also don't see any news about this on lego.com, even tho it's less than a month away... Piece price, Lego would probably be a little more expensive than Bricklink, but not necessarily excessively so. Posting and handeling I think would be competing with bricklink, if not better. Total time would HAVE to be better than bricklink. Whenever I order something from lego, using the longest method of shipping, it takes two days to get to me. When I ordered the chess set, and got the e-mail that it had been shipped, I received it in the mail the NEXT DAY. They're always great with that. But like I said, they're probably getting rid of stock, this isn't anything to get TOO excited over. Except maybe this will cause the prices on Bricklink to go down a bit ;)
July 9, 200519 yr Governor Posting and handeling I think would be competing with bricklink, if not better. I'm thinkin not in my part of the world!
July 9, 200519 yr Posting and handeling I think would be competing with bricklink, if not better. I'm thinkin not in my part of the world! You know, Mr. Phes, I think you're right. I'm an American, and I believe you're an Aussie. I guess I don't know really the cost to those in other countries.
July 9, 200519 yr Governor I know postage for 7070 Red Beard's Ship costs A$30 regular or A$70 express! And that's after they've charged Aussie's almost TWICE what they charge people in the US to buy exactly the same thing. Its ridiculous!
July 9, 200519 yr That much? Good god :() I knew S@H prices were higher for Europe and Austrailia...but I had no idea shipping was that crazy too!
July 9, 200519 yr Governor Here's the exact calculations which I'm including on my answers for the LEGO survey: On S@H 7075 Captain Redbeard's Pirate Ship for Americans is US$39.99 (or A$50.00) but for Australians its A$99.95 (or US$76). Almost twice the price and that's NOT including postage (which is A$30-A$70)! Completely ridiculous! The exchange rate doesn't fluctuate that much!!!
July 9, 200519 yr you're right, pirate. postal services in europe are rather expensive... i'm not sure how tlc is going to solve this... after all, this time they will be dealing with small packages, so they will most likely use Danish Post to some extent. i wonder how this will work. when i buy parts in the us i have to pay an extra 10
