Adam Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Awesome review, svelte corps! This. Set. Looks. INCREDIBLE!! I am totally in love with those figs-they are too cool ! I would by the set if it just came with the trailer, it is ! And the front of the truck is a pure piece of LEGO art-just look at those cheese slopes ! My only gripe-there are 4 minifigures and 5 vehicles! What is up with tha t? What, is Dr. Inferno supposed to break out in one of the vehicles or is Spongebob supposed to ride the jet ski instead ? Quote
maiq the liar Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Also, the agents still remind me of Crackdown. now we need a Agent's tower. Quote
mammymarf Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 (edited) Oh my god! svelte_corps this set is INCREDIBLE the girl and all the other agents look great Dr.Inferno looks so Evilish good I how the small vehicles fit in the command base this is one of the BEST reviews I've seen everything perfectly explained Great job! Fluyt Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 (edited) Great and very detailed review These agent sets really make you feel like a kid again, there is just so much playability (maybe even most playability in a set or theme produced by lego ever) with tons of neat stuff. Edited May 31, 2008 by Fluyt Quote
Asuka Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 (edited) Thank you for that brilliant review, svelte_corps. The Agents line.... well, congrats, TLC! It´s an exceptional well done theme, and everything looks almost perfect straight from the start. Marvelous characters, detailed designed sets with splendid parts, an amazing neat amount of storytelling and an overall excellent play value. It almost looks, although this is still a cool set for kids, like they really listened to most of the complaints made by AFOLs over the last years.... and I just think that this truckload of fun here´s for sure already one of the best play sets ever released by LEGO, magnificent in conception and execution. I even don´t mind those intimidating studless technic beams, they´re used fairly well and opposite to many other recent vehicles it seems like the though job´s done by beams with studs anyways. And the usual cost saving use of bigger '<insert that tiresome argument>' parts works like a charm too, similar to that fine CoastGuard helicopter.... what a way to go indeed! And - what´s that...? There even isn´t some annoying shooter thingy hidden in front of that truck, no.... brick built rockets, yeah! EDIT: Perhaps, and although even understandable to some degree and almost ducky, it´s a bit questionable if the use of some hoses instead that .45 automatic or similar stuff´s really an erudite approach to that coyly thematic of violence in LEGO toys. However, surprisingly I think I like those hose guns, in that case. I guess I´m growing old. Edited June 1, 2008 by Asuka Quote
Corvus Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Svelte Corps, you rock! Great review, the set looks great. Sure, it's big, but I can't imagine this thing parking outside the Green Grocier for a quick donut. Small vehicles- The two flyers are great. I'm impressed that there's actually room to store it all, including under the truck. All the agents are great. Especially Agent Trace- and her hairpiece. Quote
Darth_Legois Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Nice Reveiw I wonder why they didnt include the batman guns [Grrrrrr] like in the original pics [stuipid hose nozzels ] yet they included a revolver [2] in this set Quote
The Bricksmith Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Great review and I can not wait until my set arrives. Brickarm weapons look great with the agents set. Quote
5150 Lego Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Wow! Great review! This set is better than i thought it would be! My only gripe with this set is gap between the trucks rear wheels and the 5th wheel of the trailer (The coupler that hooks the truck to the trailer). Seems like wasted space. Oh well. Nothing alittle mocing can't fix! Other than that it looks great! I had my girlfriend driveme to 3 different TRU's trying to find this set today. Seems like they haven't found there way to the states quite yet. Again, thanks for doing such a detailed review! eaisly the best set of the agents line! Quote
The Brick Rat Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Excellent review. I bought (and built) this set on Friday and absolutely love it. The printed cardboard which has supposed to be the bottom half of the fold out middle section is on the back, slicing the ultra-large set image which would form the foldout in half . The way the cardboard is printed as one piece before it's folded I think this would be very hard to do 'accidentally' so suspect a major stuff-up somewhere along the production line. I bought this set off bricklink so would be very interested if anyone in the States who has seen these boxes actually on the shelves can tell me if this is common or rare. Basically I want to know if I should be annoyed that the bricklink seller didn't list this in the set description, or are they all like this? I can't say if it is a common or rare mistake, but my box is correct. I also noticed this nifty modification of the usual 2x3 cupboard - you can now fit drawers in it! Very clever. This may have been around in Belville sets for years for all I know, but it's new to me. The drawers slide in and out very well and the top one sits on slight indentations in the middle of the cupboard. Yep, you're right - it's been found in Belville sets for years. It's also made appearances in past system sets (Harry Potter springs to mind). I'm glad to see it included here. Dr Inferno's hair in all it's glory. This is a great piece, although the orange colouring is a little rough on the front. It's so 3D, it deserves a back and side view (and indeed EB thread) all of its own. As mentioned elsewhere, this is different plastic to the normal minifig hair, but it doesn't quite feel as soft as the Exo-force hair. It doesn't fall off as much, anyway. I'd say it's the same material as the Exo-force hair, but is better molded. It's not as loose as the Exo-force hair, as you note. These vehicles are all simple, small and well-designed. Probably the weakest is the flyer, only because the cockpit looks a little large. In fact, the small flyer is probably the weakest element of 8365 overall, which tells you how good the set itself is! Actually, the flyer is one of my favorite of the small Agent vehicles. The larger of the 4 wheeled vehicles however seems rather uninspired. this set has drawn criticism for the size of the truck. However, large vehicles do exist - I grew up in a wheat farming area and as a kid the size of the lorries that thundered past carrying grain was probably intimidating to me as this monstrous espionage machine is to the good citizens of Lego City! On top of that, it *does* contain a plethora of 4-wide vehicles inside ! Criticism of this set on the basis of size to me also seems misguided as this is basically a playset - and it is a very good one to boot. I wasn't at all sure of the size of this set, but after building it I can't imagine it being any smaller. Not only my favorite Agents set, but one of my favorite minifig sets of 2008. I had my girlfriend driveme to 3 different TRU's trying to find this set today. Seems like they haven't found there way to the states quite yet. It has made it to North Carolina at least. However, it wasn't in the LEGO aisle. They replaced all the Indy and Batman merchandise that was displayed at the front of the store with new 2008 LEGO sets. Quote
The Bricksmith Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 For the west coast US the set should be hitting most TRU this week in major cities and then smaller ones next week from what the dude at my local TRU said last week when I asked when the set would be in. But i ordered it online from TRU with no issues. Quote
hollisbrick Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Wow that was an awsome review thanks you THIS SETS IS ABSOLUTELY AWSOME! Congrats to TLG for a wonderful line I wish that the orange plane would be released as a smaller set it is the best lego plane I have ever seen! thanks again, you deserve your title Quote
Fluyt Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 I also noticed this nifty modification of the usual 2x3 cupboard - you can now fit drawers in it! Very clever. This may have been around in Belville sets for years for all I know, but it's new to me. The drawers slide in and out very well and the top one sits on slight indentations in the middle of the cupboard. According to bricklink, the drawer first appeared in 1983 (25 years ago) and it was available in sytem well before it was in belville sets. Got mine from set 2885. But indeed a nice piece, nice to see it is still in use Quote
JoeMI6 Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 It's only fitting, an awesome review for an awesome set. This looks very good, if I had the cash and space, it'd be mine. It's great to see this Agents line is offering so much new and so much fun! The little vehicles look fantastic, that truck is a monster, and the figs are great too. I definitely have to get some of the little Agents sets now... Quote
Algernon Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 I was not planning on buying all that much from the Agents line until I read this review... and now, I think, this set is on my list of LEGO sets to buy. The features are great. I don't think I've ever seen a LEGO set with as much variety. Over four extra vehicles! Wow! Quote
Svelte Posted June 1, 2008 Author Posted June 1, 2008 (edited) Thanks for all your feedback, guys. As you can tell I really enjoyed building this set so it was a pleasure to review. I don't think I'm deserving of my title really as I've only done two reviews . Scyzoryk, the Brick Rat is correct - Dr Inferno's hair is rubber, but it doesn't fall off as much as the other Exo-Force hairpieces I've had - it just must be the shape of the mould. Thanks fluyt and the Brick Rat for info about the drawers - funnily in all my years of buying sets I'd never come across the drawer part (I don't usually buy Belville either) but I hope they use it more in system sets! The flyer is OK too - I just think the cockpit is a little large - but as I said, if that is the weakest part of the set (for me) then it's saying something how good the whole thing is! 5150 Lego, I see what you mean about the gap and it maybe it is a little large, but once it's all assembled I didn't notice it. There's a few little things I'd change as well but as an out-of-the-box set this is about as good as it gets design-wise, I think. EDIT: And thanks Sinner for fixing the header. Wait til I owe you 3 - then you can cash 'em all at once . Thanks again, all! Edited June 2, 2008 by svelte_corps Quote
radiant7 Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I love you svelte_corps, I was dying for someone to do a review!. I'm an Aussie and I've actually ordered one off Bricklink too!. Did you get yours from bruno's_bricks?. That was the first store that had them available. I sent them an email for a quote, then someone bought the one they had listed, but they offered me the extra one they'd bought at TRU :). I can't believe two Aussies ordered the same set at the same time from the same seller, and one did a review before anyone from the USA did, where the set is actually available!. It makes me proud to be an Aussie lego fan :D. Mine will be arriving this week, I can't wait, it looks like so much fun. Quote

With the favourable exchange rate, even with postage it was no worse than buying from Shop at Home - that's how I justified it anyway. Besides, I couldn't wait I would be interested to know when yours arrives if it has the muddled up box art printing problem though. Quote
welcomestranger Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I must say, as a towner I looked on this Agents line as just another sub group that didn't really apeal...then I saw THIS! If you didn't have me at PRINTED parts, that projector screen and light took me over the edge for the coolness factor... I think my pedestrians better watch out when this monster comes screaming through town!! With the favourable exchange rate, even with postage it was no worse than buying from Shop at Home - that's how I justified it anyway. Besides, I couldn't wait We have many ways to justify the purchase of lego... eh... I don't need to eat for the rest of the week... I'm saving money by not buying it on ebay... there are worse things I could spend my money on... :P Quote
brickbitz Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Thanks for the great review. I initially wasn't keen on the Agents lineup but as the reviews for the sets have appeared on EB I've found myself more and more interested. Hopefully they'll appear here in the UK soon. ( but not too soon I'm running low on funds after Coastguards ) Quote
5150 Lego Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 5150 Lego, I see what you mean about the gap and it maybe it is a little large, but once it's all assembled I didn't notice it. There's a few little things I'd change as well but as an out-of-the-box set this is about as good as it gets design-wise, I think. I have to agree. I'm not sure if i can remeber another set designed with remotely as much details out of the box (System wise at least) that are as good as this one. Defenatly the best mobile command center by far. If the only real flaw is (If really can even call it that) is a minor gap, then i think lego did a bang up job. Thank you lego company for taking some inishitive (Sorry,i know i spelt that wrong ) to build somthing "out side the box" and not letting somthing like size or so called "violence policy" get in the way of designing such a beautiful set! Glad to see you went all out and didn't let anything get in your way. Thank you Lego, company... Thank you! Quote
Athos Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 This looks surprisingly good. I'd pick it up, but its just so darned expensive. Steve Quote
