Posted October 31, 20204 yr Hello All, I'm after some advice, I've been having a bit of an existential crisis when it comes to me Lego collection ... perhaps a Legostential crisis. Apart from some Speed Champions and 18+ SW builds my Technic Collection is sitting idle so I'm thinking of downsizing but I'm after some advice. Firstly I'm thinking can I drop some colours out of the collection that I have broken down into parts (set like the UCS cars are kept in their original boxes), but I'm not sure which ... at the moment I'm leaning towards keeping White, Black, Grey (both), Orange and Yellow ... and dropping the rest at least for beams, panels, connectors ... obviously pins, axles, gears I need the other colours. But would this give a good colour range ? and a good range of parts ? If I did downsize this way, so dropping Red, green, blue, purple what's a good way of selling technic individual parts, instructions, stickers ? set up a small bricklink store ? or just eBay some bits ? I've also got some used Technic sets that are in their boxes and I'll most probably eBay them thanks
October 31, 20204 yr I say it is worth it to set up a Bricklink store. I did a few years back when I was selling off my SW to fund my Technic. It isn't actually all that hard.
October 31, 20204 yr I think posting something on the "for sale" select of the forum would be easy enough. I am always checking that forum for technic stuff for sale.
October 31, 20204 yr A lot depends on what you want to do with the things you keep. Is your collection a resource of parts to build MOCs with? Or do you want to keep the official models? A few years back I "slimmed out" my connection a bit, by thinking: why do I need 2000 black pins? I only have a few MOCs built at a time, and not keeping stuff built is a good way to save on parts. So for all common parts, I estimated how many I needed (by keeping a few more MOCs built) and sold the rest. Same for wheels I never used. I sold everything as one huge "lot" to a fellow LUG member who had started a bricklink store and could use some stock. I think this is something I will do every few years, so that I can enjoy new sets every now and then, without my storage space spilling over :) But I have to say I don't care about keeping sets complete. If you do that, your approach may differ.
October 31, 20204 yr Setting up a Bricklink store and managing the orders can be a lot of hassle but that's the way to go if you want to get the best price for your parts. If you don't have to maximize selling price, you should just put them up in Ebay or whatever as a single lot, someone will buy it and it's much, much less work than bricklinking them.
November 1, 20204 yr Getting rid of special coloured panels and beams to downsize a collection? Isn't everybody else looking for more panels in more colours? I mean, you probably have more grey beams than you can ever use in a single build, because there are grey coloured beams in every set. Or connectors that mostly come in a few standard colours. I have to agree with Erik Leppen, why not downsize on the common parts?
November 1, 20204 yr If you really want to downsize your collection, I'd keep red for sure. But it also depends on if you want to keep the sets complete or you don't care... I agree: sell the common parts first and then look if you need to sell more.

Its ALOT. btw....im in the market for some new sets.....i for one would be interested in purchasing one or a few...
November 1, 20204 yr Downsizing a Lego collection.... Does Not Compute. its a pity we don’t have a parts swap setup as I reckon there are loads of people with excess of certain colours that need other colours etc.
November 2, 20204 yr Author Thanks everyone for your comments. Why am I downsizing ? Well to make room for some new stuff an also thin down what I don’t build anymore. I’ve not got much display space so really I only ever have about 3-4 models on display at once, my main shelf is only big enough to have all 3 UCS Technic cars on display. Also my interest has changed over the years, this year I’ve been heavily into Star Wars and have built the UCS A-Wing and the Helmet collection. I’ll continue collecting the Helmets into 2021 too. As to my Technic collection it’s in 2 forms. The vast majority of it is in storage boxes in a cupboard sorted by colour for beams and panels or part for things like pins, connectors, axles etc. I think I only have 8 in their original boxes and the rest are broken down into these trays. So my plan now is I’m going to put selling on hold as we enter another lockdown and take stock of what I’ve got and work out what I’d like to shift, most probably more non-Technic compete sets and then a load of random Technic parts and then work out how to sell them from your advice. I’ll most probably try here first as we're all friendly. But that won’t be until the new year now. And then perhaps look to bricklink/eBay afterwards. @chlego I can’t remember the last time I built anything in red, I think it may have been the Triple competition back in 2013! @Erik Leppen How did you work out how to reduce your general parts / connectors / pins ? Any advice ? @nerdsforprez the only Technic sets with boxes that I might sell would be the Extreme Adventure and the CLAAS Thanks everyone for your advice
November 2, 20204 yr No problem. Im interested in anything cool. Not just technic sets in boxes. Just wanted to let you know there are interested parties out there in buying sets.
